#2 was Amy Winehouse - Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse was voted No. 2 because of her "hemorrhaging translucent skin, rat's nest mane and lashes that look more like surgically attached bats".

#3 was Sandra Oh - The mag listed Grey's Anatomy Sandra Oh at No. 3 for her "cold bedside manner and boyish figure"

#4 was Madonna - Pop star Madonna took out the No. 4 spot for her "self-righteous bellyaching and rapid postnuptial deterioration".

#5 was Britney Spears - Britney Spears came in at No. 5, the magazine cites her two kids, two ex-husbands, a slight weight gain and losing the ability to perform.

Those used to be a lot more common back then, glad we have moved past that junk.

Real classy there, but not unexpected of the time. Also, I never got the whole thing about Sarah Jessica Parker being supposedly ugly. None of those women listed were, but SJP always got a lot of crap.

Seems like a waste of energy to be mad about this.

I mean, I can understand why we wouldn't just give it a pass because it was a long time ago and the style was common. Just because everyone was doing it, doesn't make it ok. Sure.

But my question is who are we angry at? What action is being called for? Is the author/editor still with the publication? Have their recent works continued to look like this? Do we want a retraction, or an apology or something?

I used to adore Maxim, Stuff, etc in their prime years of late 90's / early 00's. But Maxim really fell off a cliff around 2005 or so; articles were soulless, they couldn't get an interview with Megan Fox so they instead wrote this weird 2-page love letter to her, and had like a whole page devoted to creepy tabloid shots of Lindsay Lohan; old Maxim never stooped to any of that crap.

I honestly don't remember Maxim doing anything as mean-spirited as a "Top Un-Sexiest Women" during their prime years. In fact one of the best things about it was that, past all the beer-and-tits chauvenistic veneer, it put a lot of effort into clueing its readers into how to talk to and treat women at the time, and well as providing womens' down-to-earth perspective on sex and other issues. When it was at its best I always imagined Maxim as a male version of Cosmo.

Stuff, on the other hand - even in their best years they did often have a very mean undercurrent (not surprising since they were helmed by Greg Gutfeld at the time).

Ugliest is typically the wrong word -- because even to us cavemen, it came off as mean. The 'ugly' girls typically got zero attention anyway. But I definitely remember talking about overrated and underrated-looking girls. And this still holds true now. Internet talk is constantly debating about things or people that are under/over-rated.
