I find ChatGPT quite grating at times but nothing else has really come close. Claude just doesn't seem as advanced (although I know it's great for coding), Gemini seems to have no use cases beyind image gen (which, to be fair, it's decent at), Copilot is ass and can barely follow instructions, Perplexity just seems like a Google summarizer. Should I just stick with Chatgpt?

ChatGPT is definitely leading the pack right now. Claude is still useful though. It really depends on what you're trying to do with it. I almost exclusively use them for coding.

The offline version of ChatGPT is the most energy efficient, but none of these are using much energy. People keep confusing the energy used in the training process at data centers (a lot) with the energy used in normal operations with a trained model (about the same as playing a game on your PC).

It's not so much "AI is bad" as the creation of it is harvesting copyrighted material and using a fuck ton of water. If you don't care about creators' rights or water conservation then all the power to you I guess...

You should ask about using the new ChatGPT offline client. It obviously can't collect any data.

1. Intentionally using any of these "AI" programs is a moral failing.

2. These text slop generators possess no intelligence. The fact that people use the term AI remains infuriating. Just call them Live Language Models.

3. TALK TO REAL HUMAN BEINGS.

Unfortunately that decision comes from significantly higher than me and I'm in a fairly large company. That said, I don't really feel a burning need for AI.

I avoid it if I can still find what I'm looking for otherwise, but when Google is being too stupid to understand my question (or, equivalently, nobody's ever asked it before) I'll try chat.

Sometimes I use chat for "what am I not thinking of" type questions, usually related to writing.

They still all suck, so I don't understand how anyone gets any general usage out of them. For stuff like chatbots, they've come a long way, but they're still unable to have any kind of long form storyline unless you're rewriting prompts constantly.

I made it rank sports teams overall and after a few iterations it got me to a pretty good list.

I also use it for research; I used it to help me find a camera to buy (supplanted by real reviews and forum posts)

I also use it to generate character names for video games

And for general research it's gotten quite good (causes of WWI, history for a certain culture, etc)

I never use AI for anything serious at work beyond synonyms and summarization though

for code (claude code specifically) it tends to get 90% of the way there and then give up. particularly when writing tests. this is even with the help of MCP servers, or a well-structured architecture prompt. I often (but not always) have to jump in and do some of the work myself for anything complicated. anything self-contained, however, like "factor out this this and this from this method" or "rename all these things" and it works like a charm.

Is there any advantage to 5 over 4o for basic everyday non-professional usage? I've gone back to 4o, because I find the conversations more pleasant.

There was also an instance where 5 Fast and 5 Thinking gave the exact opposite answer over and over. So that was alarming. 4o sided with 5 Thinking.
