I can't eat potatoes and I think I'd have a hard time making money off of selling magic ones a la carte

Either youd eat them so much youd be hating potatoes long before you ever got to $5000, or

That was my thought as well initially. A potato costs like $1, at most. So you would need to have two potatoes every day for the next 7 years before youd break even on the $5,000 (and thats before you even go down the compounding interest side of things, if you were so inclined.

With reasonable toppings and made to your liking, this leads me to believe that you can have gourmet prepared potatoes. It would be like having a personal chef with regards to potatoes, and I feel like that would be worth the $5,000 I am giving up for a lifetime service - and one that is instant, on top of that.

does it have to be a baked potato or can it be any potato based food where the potato is the main ingredient

Over a lifetime, the time (and obviously financial) savings of the potato is worth much more than $5,000.

Also that you can share a potato meal with someone else is extra helpful.
