I'm one of those "botw didnt do it for me" fans of zelda. this is legendary. easily most fun and interesting one since link between worlds for me

It's a top 3 2D Zelda for sure.

Once you realize it's the link to the past map, it's actually pretty easy to get around. Don't be afraid to just wander around on top of trees. Some secret areas require you to do it to get there

Never played cause I felt like I put enough hours into botw. What key differences make this one "goated with the sauce" for you?

you should try the latest forgotten land one if you can get it cheap, i've been over kirby games for a while, but that one impressed me

I dunno if this is accurate but it kinda feels like a Zelda game that got overlooked because it's not only 2D, but also because of the non-traditional way to combat enemies. It's a pretty great game, it shows Zelda is not dead just because it got more open.

Even if you say they're kind of the same, that's because Hyrule tends to loosely have same geography regardless of game

Echoes of Wisdom is the 3rd Zelda game Ive played, I had no idea what to expect out of that style of game, but I had a lot of fun with it.

I just finished my playthrough a few days ago. Was very impressed with it, and like you TC, I didn't like the direction that the 3D Zelda's were going in, so that's good that the 2D Zelda's aren't letting me down.

I finished it last week and enjoyed it. Just wished it had its own art style instead of reusing a remake's assets

i skipped links awakening cuz i didnt like the og, so i didnt even know it looked like this. i fuckin love the graphics

I really enjoyed this game. My only issue with it is when you get tons of Echoes and you need a specific one, you'll be scrolling through your list a lot. There are some sorting options that help but I feel like that aspect could've been less clunky

enemies should deff have their own bar

Im about 3/4 of the way through it. Its pretty good but for some reason Ive lost a lot of motivation to play it. For me that never really happens in a Zelda game before the final boss.

I still need to play it. I bought it for my sister for Christmas last year and she let me borrow it after she finished it.

It starts good but really doesn't hold up long term.

Just wanna finish all character affinities, get Area 90, and then finish act 2 and 3 of chapter 13.

I got it at Christmas, it's an absolutely brilliant game.

I agree that the menu for your Echoes can get unwieldy, but that's a fairly minor complaint.

Yeah it's pretty great. Hope they make a sequel on Switch 2.

Yeah in retrospect it is really good. I had a great time with it and even started a FAQ for it.

I beat it but it did end up becoming my least favorite title in the franchise (of those I've beaten anyway) for the same reasons you listed, but more than that later.

The UI isn't good, but it's manageable with the sorting system.

No. Death Mountain is in the completely wrong place. Kakariko Village also seems to have picked up and moved very far away from it's LttP location. All the water west of Hyrule Castle has apparently dried up.

I...didn't love it. Which sucks because I massively prefer 2D Zelda.

It also only sold a tenth of BOTW, so I'm really worried we're only getting incremental upgrades to BOTW forever.

BotW is one of my favorite games, but I still feel like I enjoyed Echoes more than a lot of people. Zelda is Zelda to me.

The only drawback was it felt a little Scribblenauts-y at times because you only really need to use a handful of echoes.

Also, the map is not like LttP at all. It has some vague similarities, but it's not like it's Link Between Worlds.

Yeah I loved it. Same camp of "nah not BOTW style" and Echoes was basically what I wanted. Charming and enjoyable game through and through

There's WAY more similarities to the two maps that you're dismissing for some odd reason. Death Mountain from LttP is there, just frozen over. The Lost Woods is there, with EoW's Death Mountain extending past there. The flute boy grove southwest of castle town is there. The ruins of the Eastern Palace is there. The ruins of the Desert Palace are there. It's like if the same exact land from LttP underwent a lengthy timelapse to the point where a town becomes abandoned and moved elsewhere, structures get dilapidated, and some water sources dry up. This is not like other Zelda games where they just take similar concepts but the map itself is entirely different.

This is a common misconception with this game. You definitely don't have to wait around during combat (and no I'm not talking about Swordfighter mode). When you're locked on to an enemy, many of your summons come out while immediately attacking. There are also no penalties or wait times to using more summons than you're allowed (besides the oldest one disappearing). So you can lock on and spam summons as a method of attack. Try it with a Sword Moblin or Lizalfos - it's literally like fighting as Link but with way more melee range. Plus if you spam Rope, Caromadillo, Mothula, etc. they immediately dart out so it's like spamming a bow & arrows or other ranged attacks

I've been meaning to get back to it since I didn't finish it yet and am interested in the Switch 2 improvements. Maybe after I finish Kirby and DK. Trying not to add a 3rd game at the moment.

I think the only improvement is it runs at 60fps

If I was cynical I'd say they made it on switch 2 but were later told to back port it.

I found something about it lacking charm compared to other Zelda games. I did enjoy it though, and I do want to replay it and reassess it.

S1 was dynamic 1080 with drops to 720

Definitely a fantastic game, and a needed departure from the "Wilds" era.

As someone who held off on playing a lot of Switch games because of the performance of the games in the later half of the thing's life, I've been loving my time switch 2. Link's Awakening was great to play with the S2 updates. Echo's of Wisdom is on my shortlist for next game after I finish Kirby or DK.

i noticed some performance dips but once i switched the res to 720p its been smooth since, even in combat. i play exclusively docked

I haven't played it yet but knew instantly when seeing gameplay I was interested and I'm someone who just doesn't like BotW or have any interest in TotK. As soon as I saw it I was like "Fuck yeah that is what I'm talking about"

Yep I got it at launch and immediately enjoyed it more than the previous two. It's a shame it's more or less come and gone. If Nintendo wants to throw us a bone like this while they mess around with open world nothing then I can deal

I also like the combat and using summons. Feels like an old game I used to play called lost kingdoms where you summon things to fight for you and shit. Loved it then love it now
