Cooperation is better in every way.

Objectively false. Competition forces society to strive for improvement. Cooperation is very important as well, but to dismiss competition completely is a horribly damaging mindset.

Despite this, I dislike most competitive sports regardless. X-Games were fun to watch though as everyone seemed to try and lift their opponents up rather than dominate them.

I just watched an athletic dog show yesterday and found myself really getting into it, wtf is wrong with me, I don't even like dogs... But they were so cute with their humans!

This. I think America has developed into such a terrible place in part because we incessantly refuse to cooperate with each other. It's every rugged individualist for himself, and any ounce of sacrifice for the common good is evil, communism, and "entitlement."

Most sports are team sports though, at least the ones Americans love, which brings in both cooperation/teamwork and competition

I like some sports. I don't like all of them. No sports fan does, so it doesn't make you cool to put down ones you dislike. I think criticizing aspects like the violence/danger or the politics of a sport is fair game though. Plenty of sports fans are not happy with things like the abuse of public funding for stadiums, the rowdy dudebro fans who act like animals, the close relationship with gambling companies as of late, etc. Ethical concerns come with the territory of any large enterprise under capitalism. I'm sure the nerds who call it "sportsball" have played games or watched anime that was produced under bad crunch conditions.

Cooperative societies always out-perform competitive societies. Neat trick there trying to pass off your (incorrect) opinion as objective, though.

I'm a fan, but not a crazy fan. Don't stay up to date on trades or transfers and only pay attention on some gamedays. Shoot, I barely know any of the guys playing for the Red Wings at this point.

Idk sports and people that obsess over sports are so boring. I worked at a university once in the residence life department. In the summer we would host camps. The football camps were always the worst. The parents were always rude af, and the kids would break things and demand instant gratification. What do you want from me? If you have a problem you have to go through the same process as everyone else, boohoo. Also I had to call the police on football camps every year because they would break vending machines or trash their rooms and break furniture. Like they thought we were as stupid as they were and that we wouldnt notice.

If I could push a button and immediately rid the world of mosquitos, cancer, or football, I would push the button twice just in case there's confusion over American football or soccer.

I have no interest in sport, and never have had. But I don't hate sports, I just don't see the attraction, but other people really love them, so why not? Different people like different things, and just because I don't like sport, certainly doesn't mean that a given sport is bad, or that playing or watching it is bad.

There's nothing wrong with sports in general, but sports fans tend to be weird nerds who get way too upset over people's opinions (or lack thereof) on things that I can't bring myself to care about. Every nerd has weird obsessions. Sports nerds just think they're different for some reason, but they're all just a bunch of weird nerds who can't fathom that there are people out there who don't have opinions that pertain to the specifics of their weird nerd obsession. At least anime nerds don't look at you like you have 3 heads when you tell them you don't watch anime and don't care about Evangelion or whatever.

That's not really a good point when that's soccer fans in general. England has probably had worse riots.

I have no inherent problem with sports but I think the relationship that a lot of supposedly grown adults have with one or more professional sports teams is destructive and childish. The people who cause property damage after the world cup in particular kind of deserve to be chemically neutered. The intense investment in a particular team and the way so many people try to turn a team's success into some sort of personal victory as if they had anything to do with it is pathetic honestly.

The only sport I follow is Strongman which is always a free for all format and generally speaking every participant is happy to see everyone else perform well and most of the fans enjoy it regardless of who wins. Any trash talking by fans on behalf of a particular athlete is almost always shot down by both other fans and the athletes themselves.

I'm sure there is a huge psychological difference there based on the structure of the event or sport. When it comes to team sports, there's already such a heavy shade of "us vs them" cast over the game. I think 1-on-1 sports or indirect competition sports (golf, lifting, bowling) don't as easily lend themselves to the same kind of thinking that huge team sports do. Humans are just tribalistic by nature, it's far easier to fall into a massive group based on where you live than it is to find a singular athlete you enjoy.

That's why I hate it. I think team sports at the highest level bring out the worst aspects of human psychology and behavior, particularly among people who don't have the self awareness to temper them. To say nothing of the absurd amount of money we spend on a lot of professional sports in the U.S. Or the brain damage.

I think politics brings out the worst in people. Sports are a distant 2nd place

OMG, same! Dad sat down on a ball, it got stuck, obstructed his bowels, and RIP dad. Football is very dangerous. That's why I'm an advocate of Nerf footballs. Those at least have a handle to pull on.

I really dont care for them, but I dont ever announce or mention it. No one has ever shamed me for not liking them either (despite what some people would suggest is common). We all have our interests and passions. If they are not toxic, let people enjoy them.

I am 110% fine with people who just aren't interested in or don't follow sports. But people who intensely hate sports annoy the hell out of me. Like imagine being in your 20s and 30s and still being mad that you got picked on by the jocks in high school or even middle school.

Sports are great. Competition makes society healthier. Deal with it nerds.
