A food stand at a baseball game. Waited in line for 10 minutes. Picked up some fried dough off a rack. Paid with a card with no cashier standing there. Zero interaction with anyone and they wanted a $4 tip.

At work. I helped an older couple carry their luggage upstairs. They gave me a tip, and my coworker demanded that I give it to her, or at least split it. She said since it was her suggestion that I help them, that she deserves the tip.

I had just clocked out for the day, and was only helping to be nice. So I refused, and she was furious.

Many countries outside the US dont promote the archaic nature of tipping culture.

Both companies and workers dont want tipping culture to go away, and want to continue the false narrative workers are only paid 2 something an hour if you dont tip.

drive thrus now making you scan your own card so that they can present you with a tip option. Making things less convenient is a bad way to get tips imo. I know those people work harder than most but why would I tip you now that you made things slightly harder

Hardware store.

I went in, got what I needed, didn't interact with any staff aside from the checkout guy who had the grueling task of ringing up a box of decking screws. And it asked me for a tip as I was checking out. Nah. Never went back there. Think they went out of business earlier this year too

Bowling Alley. Not that ridiculous to most people, but it was already inserted. Though the one that pissed me off the most was the gratuity tip for a restaurant that only serves big groups of people. 18% already put on to the bill, with a tip being asked for. I really wanted to give the waitress a tip, she was fantastic, but this place was already expensive and tbh the food and atmosphere weren't that good. It was in an older historical inn that wasn't well taken care of, literal cobwebs and broken light fixtures. This same place served breakfast for 30 bucks and if we wanted homemade waffles we'd have to pay an extra 12 bucks CAD.

The place has since shut down. Hopefully for good. Bulldoze the damn place, it smelled awful, but its probably protected by some stupid historical document.

I dunno, I don't think about it anymore. One day earlier this decade, everyone overnight started asking you for a tip. I just autopilot through it at this point. Insert, PIN, no tip.

I do tip my barber and traditional wait staff, of course.

I hate tipping too. That said, I still begrudgingly do it, because I know that our shitty society makes many low-wage workers dependent on it, but it's really a shitty practice.

Workers should be given a living wage and should not have to depend on tips to survive. I gladly would pay a bit more for food if it meant no more tip screens and no more having to do calculations after the fact. That said, I am aware that some restaurants have tried that and businesses go down...consumers' brains are so stupid that they're more likely to eat at a place with a $20 meal that requires a 15% tip than a place with a $23 meal. Our brains are still just obsessed with the sticker price.

actually I think maybe the papa gino's near my work has at least one, because I was in there the other day and did see a worker leave with a pizza
