Yeah so that type of sentiment now does explain why, as a tourist in Japan last month, I did feel not particularly welcome in certain places and areas.

The problem is their society has a declining population, so without immigration they will literally cease to exist in a couple of generations

It's easy for a couple of bad eggs to make Japanese people wary of tourists and immigrants. While not all of the locals are like this, many do in fact generalize and stereotype foreigners.

The problem is their society has a declining population, so without immigration they will literally cease to exist in a couple of generations

Another problem is that they (most specifically right-wingers) want their population to grow without relying on immigration and mixed marriages. The types of immigrants they tend to tolerate more are those who happen to be both white and wealthy.

They really have it in for tourists from Mainland China who behave very badly.

Now that being said...I think the ones who act this way, in fact, *do not* act this way at home...when I lived in Beijing for two years, people were generally quite civilized and well-behaved, and you didn't see loud conversations on the subway there. Some of the behavior may just be due to overseas traveling.

Like I said before, all it takes is a couple of bad eggs to ruin things for everyone. While Japan is not likely to eliminate tourism entirely due to the amount of money it brings in, it's only a matter of time before they screen visitors even more to ensure that only the most wealthy and "well-behaved" tourists are allowed in.

They have 30 million people in Tokyo alone... they'll be fine for much than a few generations.

Japan is literally dying out. They refuse to let anyone else in and aren't having families for a variety of reasons. The country is going to die. South Korea is speedrunning it.

Japan's demographics are collapsing because no one is having kids and immigrants are really the only way to fix it.

I saw a lot of Africans when I was in SEA a couple years ago.

They probably want them to do manual labor, like when the US used to bring in truckloads of Mexicans to work in factories and farms.

It's a fact. Birth rate is especially low. They have one of the oldest populations. Fewer working people to pay for more older people. It's happening in many countries but Japan is ahead of the curve. It causes a lot of problems.

It's not a problem exclusive to any particular country - it's a worldwide phenomenon.

The white people who use this as an excuse to attack immigrants are obviously racist pieces of shit that are wrong (and same with the Japanese people who do this), but it's not wrong to say that a declining birthrate is something that many developed countries are going to have to confront at one point or another. There's the right way to handle it, which is encouraging immigration, addressing the wealth gap, improving quality of life, making having kids financially easier, lessening the burden that work does to people...and then there's the wrong way to handle it, which is, you know, racism.
