Figured I'd make a continuation since people were using the review topic to talk about their playthroughs of the game.

Tag. Ive still got a few routes left:

Retsnom
Killing Game
Mystery Route after Route lock
S.F.

currently doing Retsnom and Darumi has escalated to one of my favourite characters. One of her killing game quotes even got me once, something about a romance flag but it being too bad since this is a killing game

Progress is slow though since Cyberpunk 2077 is my new hotness atm

Thanks for making this. I thought about just making my own topic somewhere like B8 just so it wouldn't purge as easily, but I haven't felt motivated to make a good first post and it's easier just to post in a preexisting thread, anyway. I'm still plugging away at the game, just finished Ending 001. Damn, that was a powerful final fight and ending. It's easily the best I've seen in the game so far, and it's obvious they put more effort into it than most of the routes (or at least the ones I've seen up to now). I'm up to 35 endings, but man, that route was long and I have a ton of choices to go back and redo throughout it. I can only imagine how long it's going to take me. Somehow I've been able to get to what I consider most routes' proper conclusions without having to redo things, too, so it kinda sucks that I have to go from what feels like a satisfying ending to going back and choosing the choices that are likely going to make me feel depressed instead. I still have to find Endings 34 and 36 to get past the first story lock, as well. Maybe I'll find them in the next 30 hours if I'm lucky.

Yeah. Some have and moved on though. I finished the game completely but I still like seeing people discover it.

Well, if anyone's interested, I've finished some more routes since I last posted, including Cult of Takumi, Multiple Eitos, Rebellion, and Conspiracy (so I've more or less been going back and doing routes that branched off of the Second Scenario). I did find the route that's nonstop battles, too, but I tabled it for now. Anyway, I finally found what I think are the routes that unlock the first story lock (the ones involving the Boxes of Blessings/Calamities), though I've read that they're long and not exactly the most beloved. I'll probably try to get through them over the weekend, time and motivation willing.

Speaking of less than loved routes, I didn't like Cult of Takumi or Multiple Eitos; not including the extremely short and pointless Conspiracy Route, they're my least favorites so far by a fair margin, I think. I looked up some discussions and at least Cult seems divisive; I thought it was kinda silly and amusing at first, but it went from 0 to 11 pretty fast and became unsettling, then downright horrifying by the end. I just wasn't a fan of Multiple Eitos because I'm not a fan of Eito to begin with and the whole path is a bad ending no matter what you do, which takes some of the enjoyment out of it for me (which is more or less the same deal with Conspiracy, too, but at least it had the courtesy of being extremely short and wasn't nearly as edgy/depressing).

All in all, I still think it's a very good game and it's managed to hold my attention for a long ass time now, but I'll admit some of these routes have dragged my opinion/motivation down a tiny bit. As I've said before, though, I'm not using a guide/map, so I can't really just pick the routes that sound most interesting to me and ignore the less fun ones. I still want to experience the whole thing, anyway.

My (probably) last update: I finally got through the SF Route. Managed to get Ending 55 first, though I feel like most of the "right" choices (except the coin toss, which I haven't gone back to see the alternative for yet) were fairly obvious. It was a decent ending, although not nearly as impactful/moving as some of the others, especially 001. I'd probably be disappointed if that was the best the game had to offer, honestly. I'm at 65 endings, and I'm not sure if I'll try to get them all; I'm feeling pretty tapped out at this point (my Switch says I've played it for "100 hours or more", and I assume that means somewhere between 100-105 hours), though I kinda at least want to see the Killing Game Route, as I never played it and the fact that it came up a few times in the SF Route and played a part in the solution for the ending made me a little surprised that there wasn't a story lock related to it.

I'd say my favorite ending was 001, and I doubt any of the remaining ones will change that. The very first one I got, which was Ending 72: Goodbye Kiss (part of the Slasher Route, and conveniently one of the endings needed for the story lock) was a pretty good one, too, and part of me thinks it was probably good that I got a strong ending like that for my first. Ending 50 (How Darumi Felt, part of the Retsnom Route) was another that stuck with me, but there are some others that I thought were still good beyond that (and only a few that I particularly disliked - most were meh at worst).

Anyway, all in all, it was a very good game that ate up most of my free time for the last 24 days (and potentially more, assuming I go back for more endings). I'd personally rate it around a 9/10, though I gotta say I always feel a little weird trying to rate visual novels; it's hard for me to assign a number to them.

I was unfortunate in that I went through the comedy route as my first couple endings. What upset me the most wasnt only that the ending itself was lackluster with no payoff, but rather that I had to trudge through what felt like 100 days of filler content with stuff like fetch quests to retrieve scraps from the city ruins and battles that had long become stale to get there.

I did go back and branch off to complete the slasher route which was better in that it did have some elements of mystery and periods of excitement along the actual route. But ultimately it still felt too padded out by the 100 day format it needs to adhere to, with so much uninteresting downtime. Feels like Im panning for gold or something, there are nuggets of greatness but overall they focused on quantity over quality to the extent that its even hard to appreciate the cool stuff.

Anyways, Im actually not here only to complain, but wondering if I just had a really bad first impression? I heard somewhere that the routes where you spare Eito are much better, and if thats the general consensus, I might be willing to give the game another shot. But if it sounds like the game just isnt for me, Id rather know now instead of investing even more time into it.

In hindsight, I like the horror routes a lot more after trying all the other routes. They tell a near story but lack any closure to route 0. In fact, they build up on other routes and add more mysteries. It can be frustrating.

Frankly, if you want to enjoy this game you need to pace yourself. Also, yes if you didnt like these routes then the other routes might be for you. But Im of the opinion that the horror routes are better in hindsight.

^Yeah I generally agree with the above post. But yeah, the spare Eito routes are generally better. There's still a few stinkers in there though.

Having to adhere to the 100 days for a lot of the routes does feel like it hurts the game more than helps it, I agree.

To me it felt like they took a bad ending that would last 5 mins in any other VN and stretched it out to be 5 hours instead. And theres no way to know that youve stumbled onto the bad/comedy route until its practically over. I had an inkling when the plot points from the slasher route hadnt been brought up in a while and only what felt like filler remained, but a part of me still assumed it was going somewhere.

I decided to look some things up and it seems like the route I wouldve ended up on next is the killing game route, which is more my cup of tea and seems to be a fan favorite. Im gonna give the game another shot and see if it can win me over, I was really excited for it so I dont want to write it off completely just because I was unlucky enough to stumble upon some of the lesser routes on my first playthrough.

It's strange, because not all routes stretch themselves out to day 100, there's a select few that actually end sooner than that and act more like extended endings. Not sure why they didn't do that with a few of the other ones, but different writers were involved with different routes so maybe some of them felt they *had* to stick with the 100 days.

Been slacking off recently but I finished Retsnom. That one was pretty good, probably my favorite one so far after Second Scenario.

Next route I'm gonna do is Killing Game. Even more than Retsnom this should be Darumi's time to shine.

I actually just finished one of the main splits of the comedy route and thought it was funny meat vs fish, picked meat. But also, this is my final route through this half of the time line. Once that's done, I can FINALLY pick the other option in the first major decision and see what's going on in that half. Excited to see people say it's better since I thought what I've done has been great so far.

you know fellas

I really loved this game when I was playing it in May/June, but it hit a point where I had gotten like ten endings, and then I was so powerful that the battles were just not fun (and it let you skip them.) I was basically just in it for the plot, but there were so many repeated storybeats when going back that I got bored of the game. Explored seemingly the entire map, battles weren't doing it, and re-reading a lot of the same stuff.

the major routes are basically completely different. each route has a bunch of bad ends or slightly different ends, but the route itself basically is wildly different most of the time.at least in the good ones. I recommend any that are ranked S or A on this list:

definitely one of the best ones. the only one I enjoyed more was second scenario

gonna start S.F. next. will I know once I unlock the lock in the Mystery route?
im guessing S.F. is where I will learn that the sponsor in Killing Game was Hiruko, at least the first sponsor >.>
Anyway its basically the final stretch for me. 1.2 routes left, im at 90/100 endings cleared

I guess I'll come back to this and say I did go out of my way to play the Killing Game route after finishing SF, and I didn't like it nearly as much as most seem to. I think I would have liked it more had I played it earlier, but the tone and the way the characters acted often felt at odds with how they usually behaved in most other routes, plus the route as a whole felt like it needed me to suspend my disbelief to accept some of what was going on (such as the bees and how they were created/behaved).

Honestly, it hurt my opinion of the game a bit to have it be the last route I finished (though I still had a few others, such as Serial Battles and some of the Box of Blessings/Calamities routes, that I'll probably never bother actually going through myself).

According to my Switch I am 170 hours in with 46 endings seen. Im taking another break at the moment. My first route in the second scenario was Cult of Takumi, and I was pretty shocked by that one ending. After that I moved up to the Kill Eito routes, and I think Ive finished them all except for the one with the story lock. Since then Ive been going through the Spare Eito routes and have come across one other story lock so far. I feel like I know the majority of what is actually going on now, but Im interested to see what surprises may still be in store.

Yeah, I got all endings in my first pass, and it will be a long time (if ever) before I revisit it, which might lead to me missing some interesting DLC.
