Ya_dun_goofed posted... I'm in support of the 2a, though I think the idea that it'll stop an oppressive government is hilariously out dated and it is stupid to let it be used to decide your vote. The only thing that's clear is that it was not an individual right to keep and bear arms, because if that's what they wanted, that's what they would have written. --- "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. LightSnake posted... Let's be real: The founders did not intend a "kill us if we're doing shit wrong" clause Some seemed to view it as a potential check(state militias) on a federal army at the time. Again, a very dated concept that hasn't really had any merit in over a century now. Personally I think that take was propaganda, as other posters have stated we all know how the founders dealt with rebellion. Though I do have to admit, the best part of all of this is the right wing using the national guard and marines to go into California... Personally I think that take was propaganda, as other posters have stated we all know how the founders dealt with rebellion. We should remember when the US was founded there was a whole lot of potential danger like the potential of invasion by other countries, attacks from Native American tribes (to the point failing to defend the colonists was among the list of grievances in the Declaration). It was less a check on the feds and more a supplemental defense of home. --- Ring the bells that still can ring/Forget your perfect offering/There is a crack in everything/That's how the light gets in."- RIP, Leonard Cohen ...
