All this hype around Silksong made me decide to give the first another go (for some reason I fell off it after a couple hours some time ago) and I'm loving it. It's not been too hard yet but I can see myself hitting a skill wall for sure (there was already one boss that I had to step away from for the moment). I don't think I'll be able to fully be it but I dunno... I assume I can hit an ending and then move on to Silksong at some point (I imagine you don't have to play 1 first but I've heard 1 is a good tutorial for Silksong...).

I adore them. The feeling when you get a new ability and realize you can reach here or there is so good. I'm not a big Soulslike person and the runbacks are my biggest issue right now. I haven't died too much yet but I can see it getting real old real fast.

I'll be real with you, Silksong's average difficulty is closer to HK's DLC difficulty so if you end up bouncing off HK from the late game stuff Silksong might not go any better. (Though it was patched recently and I haven't played since then so idk how it'll be when you get to it.)

But yeah, HK kicks ass.

I also have a terrible memory and sense of direction so any time I enter a new area it's tough keeping track of where I am or where I've been.

I didn't even know there was DLC for HK. Is it like a post game thing or is it just integrated somewhere?

It's integrated into the main game, I think you should have it already, I don't remember it being a separate download.

The first one was pretty hidden, I didn't find it until after I looked it up after my playthrough. The second one I stumbled into but it's mostly meant for after you've beaten the rest. They both get pretty rough, but I enjoyed them.

Yeah, Hollow Knight is fantastic. Wonderful game. Silksong only takes what Hollow Knight was and perfects it.

There are still some issues here and there, but overall both are top tier games imo.

Accidentally refought a boss and did not do great. But the fact that it stuck me right outside the fight might encourage me to give 'em a try later. I don't mind throwing myself at a tough fight a few times if I don't have to do the annoying run to them.

I didn't feel like that was the case at all. I had an easier time going through Silksong the first time than vanilla Hollow Knight, and nothing up to ending 3 was on par with NKG, who isn't even the hardest of the DLC bosses. Hornet's tools are too strong and the much better heal made the fights easier.

Mild spoilers, I guess, but you eventually get the ability to set down a teleport point. It is pretty late game though.

My favorite nugget of gameplay in the HK games is going down a rabbit hole of exploration. Youll find a secret area and it ends up bigger than you expected. But then you find a secret area within the secret area. And then some weird lore thing that doesnt make sense and. Finally a path opens and youre like uh should I be here?

All the mantises bowing to me is pretty dope.

Got the double jump... now it's a real metroidvania.

Whew... beat The Radiance. Now I just gotta decide if I wanna do the Godseeker stuff... I don't know how into a boss rush I am.

It's not worth it imo

If you want to start Silksong, now is the perfect time.

If you like the boss fights in general, Godhome is good. If you don't, it doesn't have much to offer.

It's maybe worth doing the regular pantheons because there are new bosses at the end. And *maaaaaybe* the radiant version of the Mantis Lords.

I skipped the full-on boss rush mode. I knew I'd hate the game if I tried finishing that.

silksong is definitely harder than the first game. silksong feels more like late game hollow knight. i'm currently in act 2 so not sure how much harder it gets. it's still really not that. 10-15 tries is the most i had to do. most bosses i beat in like 5 tries and a few i've done 1st try. hollow knight i definitely first tried way more bosses and don't think it took more than 5 for anything except late game stuff. DLC bosses were absolutely brutal though.

but yea playing the first game is better. not super important but helpful to understand a bit plus just being an easier game to help you learn better. silksong definitely feels like the difficulty was designed for people that beat the first game. i know there's a patch to make some bosses and stuff easier and i'm thinking they'll nerf more of the difficulty over the months so i'm happy i'm beating it with the original hard difficulty. but don't let that scare you away. i absolutely love both games.

Yeah I attempted the Pantheons. Got through the first two and kept getting my but kicked in the final boss of 3. So I just watched the endings on Youtube. And then an hour long explainer on the game. Think I'm pretty much done with it (though I totally could see myself hopping back in later).

I adore this game. The gameplay is great. The Metroidvania treadmill is so fun. The art is amazing (like, it's actually drawn and not pixel art and that's so awesome). The world feels so engaging and intriguing. And the story and lore and characters (especially with the aid of the explainer) are so so interesting. Truly incredible game.
