It's just the nostalgia of it. It was pretty split back in the day if you loved it or hated. I always liked it just hated how slow the battle system was.

4,5,6,7,9,10 are the best ones, followed by 16, 13-2 and 10-2. The rest I really couldn't care much about, though 8 has the best first disc of any Final Fantasy game, so the best.... 10 first hours roughly?

XI and XIV are straight-up good MMOs with stories competing with the rest of the series.

I used to say VI was the best. Then I replayed both it and IX recently. I still think VI is great, IX has just aged much much better.

I never understood not liking 9. I particularly like Kuja as an antagonist.

5, 6, 9 and 10 are my favorite in that order.

1 (playstation version) is a very solid game and worth playing.

3 and 8 are great games tho I can see why some may not like 8.

4, 7 and X-2 are good games just not my favorite.

2 is a mixed bag, its got decent sections and some absolutely infuriating ones. Dont recommend.

12 absolutely bored me in every way imaginable.

9 is goat.

10 is overrated. It was ground breaking at the time, especially with the massive jump from 9 to 10 on regard to tech, presentation, and finally getting voice acting! Upon reflection though, all those bells and whistles dont hold up to me. People rate it high because of nostalgia goggles.

I guess it really depends on what you're after from a Final Fantasy game. There's a lot of variety to be had. Even the bad ones aren't THAT bad, are they?
