1 just feels right. It plays well and isn't stiff like 2. It's got a simple yet fun world. You have a lot more wacky and strange characters. I really like the weird vibes as well. And finally, it plays like a game. 2 tries too hard to be realistic and I feel like that hinders the fun. Sure there's a lot more to do in 2 but it feels like a chore just to get to those things.

Don't fault anyone for picking one or the other. They are like Rockstar games if they tried to be serious. I just love 2. Story made me cry

I'm sure the story is really good, but I still need to get around to beating it :/ I've put in 15 hours so far, but stopped playing a while ago. I do need to finish it, but the game is hard to get attached to for me.

1 is tighter but it being beat for beat the wild bunch takes a point off for me

i think 1 is better written but i think Arthur is so well-developed and acted a character that he carries 2 into the stratosphere

1 has this strange and kooky vibe to it that's just interesting. 2 sort of has it, but not enough, imo. But yeah, the most important thing here is that 1 just plays well. 2's main issue is the stiff realism. Sometimes it makes for some interesting and mind blowing moments that you can't find anywhere else in gaming, but the slowness is not good either. Double-edged sword.

I love RDR2 but it went too far with its "realism" in ways that just made the game feel unfun. Looting is an absolute chore, maintaining your health, stamina and deadeye, etc

They're both good games, but 2 made me feel like another human in a living world of humans whereas 1 felt more like GTA in the Wild West.

I finished 2 never did beat 1 might need to snag it on sale

Its a great game, a common opinion, and I dont beat you up for it. But RDR2 to me is a masterpiece that is my favorite game of all time since gaming regularly from 1980 to now. Westerns are my favorite genre for shows, movies, and this game delivered.

With a couple small changes to story mode it would have been perfection to me. Still a masterpiece. Love it. I know people complain about the realism but I never got tired of it. Even after like 600 hours of nothing but hunting and skinning a rabbit for the thousandth time and skinning other animals for a thousand times I loved it. Pure joy. Best world ever created.

It definitely benefits from a fair amount of patience and just taking time to enjoy the beautiful world and experiencing interactions with the people. I imagine if you're trying to brute force your way through content like most games are designed then it'd be frustrating because it's meant to be enjoyed at a slower pace.

It's also part of the reason why I liked Watch Dogs 2 so much, it was legitimately enjoyable to track down the sights (which were also collectibles in their own way) and to use your hacking abilities to interact with the world. And a big part of the reason why I hated Legion because it had none of that, the world didn't have any soul to it.

I didn't care about the first game too much - I liked John, the rest of the main characters, and some of the story, but the game didn't "grab" me.

on the other hand, RDR2 is one of the greatest achievements in media, as far as I'm concerned, where "slow" gameplay is more methodical, to me.

there's some jank, like moving around in camp, opening cupboards, and stuff like that, but overall it's a GOAT game.

It's a slow and too realistic compared to 1, nothing is going to change that.

Nothing wrong with liking what you like, but to me RDR feels so basic compared to RDR2. It used to be one of my favorite games, now I just find it kind of boring. RDR2 surpassed RDR in every possible way IMO, even the writing and dialog feels leagues beyond anything RDR did

Admittedly when RDR1 came out while I thought it was an amazing game I was disappointed that story mode duels were not a focus and turned into a random event that rarely occurred. However I let it go and appreciated the gameplay change.

Revolver was great at the time though and in that aspect the ps3 era Call of Juarez Bound in Blood is much more of a spiritual successor to Revolver than the Redemption games are. Highly recommended. It was really good and I normally avoid first person games.

I like RDR1 because its more old-school gamey. For each act you can only get so far into the completion percentage before having to advance the story. It makes it easier to keep track of challenges and missions, and feels less overwhelming. I still prefer RDR2, but the first game is some serious comfort food for me.

When I first played RDR2 on base PS4 I put it down right after that first story bar brawl in the first town because it was so slow and clunky

Picked it up when it came out on PC and its a whole different beautiful looking beast at 100+ fps max settings

I havent played RDR1 since Xbox 360 days in high school. Both amazing though
