They are. Why do you need to believe they're not?

Millennials who grew up with 4chan are now 40. They run the government. They mentor gen z who also have enough experience to have high ranks in government. When will our generation admit that we have agency in our society, that this is our generation's fault, and our generation has the responsibility to fix it?

While the oldest millenials are now in their early 40s, most are still in their 30s and the youngest millennials are in their 20s. There are like single digits millennial world leaders. The levers of power are still firmly in the hands of Gen X and the Boomers and will be for another decade. Also this seems like Gen X cringe very specifically.

It is young gen x and some elder millennial yes, but that's splitting hairs. It is our internet generation. Nothing will fundamentally change in 5 or 10 years, except we will probably have some new excuse.

Also being 18 right when 4chan came out sounds incredibly dangerous. That's your most formative years. We're living the result right now.

I would disagree, quite a lot will change over the next ten years just as loads changed in the previous ten years and the ten years before that. We live in a radically different world from when we were growing up. The most obvious example would be the democratic backsliding sadly. In the 1990s the number of democracies drastically increased and now it is falling again.

Current society has been stunted since Obama pretty much. I could see it changing in 10 years but also not changing. Important to diversify for both outcomes

Other point of note is that only 10% of those polled now say immigration is an important issue.

18 to like 24 is still a pretty big 'growing up' period. Somebody like JD Vance (somebody in the oldest 3rd of the millennial gen) was 23 when the Casual Revolution took off. 23 is still pretty young and a formidable time for people, especially in the modern society we live in.

I mean hell Karoline Leavitt is borderline a zoomer. 1997 is kind of the last year of millennial/start of gen z.

Yes the highest names are still predominantly boomers and the older half of gen x. But a lot of these immediate advisers/behind the scenes work is youngest gen x/millennials now. Russ Vought? Born in 1976, fairly late gen x (gen x ending around 80/81). Stephen Miller? Born in 1985, well into the millennial era, etc. Those republicans who get caught in these group chats every other day? Born in the 80s/90s mostly.

The problem is society has stagnated since 2007, and so people think somebody born in 1991 is still 18 or something, when they are mid 30s.

More NJ D votes on the last day of 2025 early voting than on the last day of 2024.

Maybe if the R/D election day split was still at 2020/2021 levels Jack would be in a better position.

But at this point, especially with a so much of Jack's campaign being about voting early, it's probably not going to get there.

Was the election in NJ supposed to be close? I assumed the complete lack of any national coverage meant the Dems were a lock to win. Actually, it's kind of weird that the only race this year getting much national coverage is NYC mayor.

Some people think it will be close, some think it's a lock. There's not a single poll that has Jack winning, but since it's within 5 points on average that means the Rs are convinced it's a huge polling miss, despite Dems actually overperforming polls in recent off years. A lot of Republicans "pundits" have absolutely no interest in what type of election it is, and just look at what polls were like for 2024. It's still one to watch, however.

VA Gov is getting no coverage because it's a lock. I don't care about this stuff, but a friend sent me a screenshot that Polymarket actually has higher odds for Spanberger winning than Mamdani lol. The VA AG race is what people are actually paying attention to who are following along, but an AG race just isn't big enough to get major national coverage despite what's happening there.

Sherrill was running a pretty lackadaisical campaign through September, and I was getting a little worried for a while, but they've really ramped things up the past month, and NJ Republicans appear to have misconstrued the '21/'24 elections as a sign that they should go full-MAGA which is blowing up in their face.

Based on what exactly? As far as I can tell he is saying all the right things and Jews in New York are not equivalent to the Nation of Israel.

It's possible to be FOR American Jews while being AGAINST the actions of the nation of Israel.

Also speaking of this topic, I am just now finding out that Republicans have apparently spent the last week having an internal Civil War?? If he's lived in NYC and saw that the elected mayor has a major effect on NY Jews then it would make sense.

It doesn't really make sense though because politics is already downstream of society and culture. It's like white people who thought racism was solved with Obama being elected and racism/misogyny was re-invented with Trump being elected. Would be amazing if it were so simple.

You could say it's a localized effect just for NY Jews, but that makes even less sense. Like NJ and Philly and LA Jews will be totally fine with Mamdani, but NY Jews won't? The NY mayor is apparently the top ranking ambassador to Israel, so that doesn't make sense at all. Only if there are anti-Jew policies in the city like taxing synagogues. Maybe if Jews are especially rich then raising taxes on the rich could be seen as targeting them?

Speaking of actual raw data, the thing that's most striking about the NJ early numbers isn't how much better it looks for Dems numerically than Reps, but that Independents have fallen off a fucking cliff. Over 50% down in early voting from last year, over 60% in some districts. We'll find out tomorrow if this represents independent voters who swung for Trump just staying home this year entirely.

Trumps ratings are really bad (for him). You sometimes see some people going why isnt it lower but remember, this is less than ten months in. Unless there is a major crisis approval ratings only trend one way over the term until the I guess they werent THAT bad spike at the very end. He is deeply unpopular for a President at this point in his term.

Still, it does speak to how Americas two party system pushes up approvals that approval in the 30s is considered awful. That is actually middle of the pack for world leaders these days. The popular leader is basically a thing of the past.
