I tried watching some more Fruits Basket (and the 2019 for a change). There's this unnatural, "Tohru says anything and everything out to the viewer every time she's on screen" inner monologue that gets on my nerves. It doesn't help that the cat dude is one of those insufferable douchebag characters that is unlikeable to a fault (so the show spends forever making itself justify why he changes and isn't a total dickbag).
So, I'm gonna look for something else. This seems like a show I probably would have liked as a teenager or pre-teen. It is definitely written and presented that way. I am not its target, so I'll just find something else.
