RotS because that meant there was no more.
RotS is the only actual answer

I like this answer let's go with that.
If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

I remember liking Phantom Menace a lot because it was my first Star Wars experience and I was probably ten years old or something.
woo-hoo!

Ep 3 was easily the best.
RotS obviously.

legitimately don't think it's a much worse movie than RotJ (that says more about how overrated and bad RotJ is than how good RotS is, though).

Revenge of the Sith is honestly outstanding. It's right up there with the original trilogy in my book. Phantom and Clones are obviously lesser quality, but I still like them too.

It's been years since I've watched these. Pretty sure RotS is the best movie but I'm close to going with Phantom Menace just because it's the most laughable. Clones is definitely my least favorite.
yeah, TPM > AotC

maybe AotC is "better" but it's a lot more boring to watch than TPM.

ROTS really showed off the fact that the actors weren't actually bad in the slightest - the problem was the directors (and Lucas) forcing them to say cringey lines in a cringey way. Just look at any scene where Christensen has to act with his face instead of his voice.

Unfortunately, the biggest problem with executive meddling behind the scenes is that, publicly, the actors take the fall for the lot they were given, and the bad executives get to go on being bad with no repercussions.

If anything, the biggest problem with the Prequel Trilogy over the Original Trilogy is that the actors didn't have as much ground to stand on when it came to challenging Lucas, due to the more total control he had over the show - not to mention I believe Lucas divorced, and his wife was a big reason for the Original Trilogy's quality in the first place.
Life is unfair by nature - People are unfair by choice.
Using this as an excuse for bad behavior is worse than juvenile.
RotS is the best, but that doesn't mean much here. It's still a really bad movie.

I think that's being unfair to it. It's not up to the standard of the Original Trilogy but it's pretty enjoyable.
Black Turtle did a pretty good job.
I only saw the first two. I remember seeing the second with my cousin in theaters and thinking it was really boring, but I was young then and haven't seen it since. I like PM more than it at least. I'm probably one of the few people here that has seen more of the 1-3 trilogy than the 4-6 one >_>

well, of the OT lucas only directed ANH. ESB was directed by irvin kershner and RotJ was directed by richard marquand (though lucas also did some uncredited second unit directing on that movie). so the actors didn't actually have to deal with lucas for most of the trilogy.

not to mention I believe Lucas divorced, and his wife was a big reason for the Original Trilogy's quality in the first place.

there's also rumors that ANH was originally a terribly paced mess that was "saved in editing" (i.e. the editors cut out a lot of unnecessary stuff). that's never been 100% confirmed, though.

Phantom Menace has more rewatchable scenes. In general though anything without Obi Wan in the pt is bad
Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter?
Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
RotS isn't perfect by any means (a lot of the early stuff with Grievous is a pile of who-cares, there's only one female character of note and she's basically an accessory to Anakin's plot arc, etc.) but it's pretty damn good, and I do tend to rank it above RotJ though that depends on my mood.

The fall of Anakin, watching a fundamentally good person make some really bad choices, is powerful stuff.

The first two movies can occasionally be overhated on out of disappointment but they aren't very good.

Eh, none of them are very good.
RotS is absolutely not on the tier of the original trilogy but it's still a legitimately good movie. Still has dumb shit in it but the good outweighs the bad.

I actually think Attack of the Clones is the best one, or at least the least bad one, mostly by virtue of being the most harmless. I actually kind of like the part of the plot where Obi-wan is traveling around to different places trying to uncover a plot, it's different and sort of intriguing - all of the scenes that take place on that rainy clone facility planet actually feel like they might come out of a good movie, that place has a cool environment, the plot stuff there is interesting (I like that Obi-wan pretends to know what's going on in order to learn more about it - that's clever), and the fight with Jango Fett that ensues is one of the better action scenes in the trilogy, since it feels an actual, real struggle as opposed to a stupid choreographed lightsaber fight. I think the scene in the arena is pretty memorable too, and... the rest of the movie sucks, especially the drawn-out climax of the movie, and the romance scenes are terrible, but they aren't really any worse than anything the other two movies do. But there's enough memorable high notes for me to almost pretend that it's a good film for a few fleeting moments.

Revenge of the Sith has absolutely cringeworthy character motivations that completely ruin any sense of intrigue or mystique that Darth Vader's origin story might have had, nothing anyone does in that movie makes any fucking sense, and the melodrama and overacting it just absolutely oppressive. The plot involving Grievous is complete filler of the worst kind, and the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi-wan is drawn out 10 minutes longer than necessary and has no sense of weight to it whatsoever because it's just so over the top and stupid. The only redeeming thing about it is how great Palpatine is. It's a bad sign that I feel like I'm rooting for him throughout the entire movie because he's the only cool character.

The Phantom Menace still manages to be the worst one somehow. I hate every fucking thing about that movie. There are no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Don't say podracing. I hate the podracing scene. I hate everything about that movie.

AotC was astounding for me when the actual war scenes happened. RotS doesn't get behind either. TPM though... The only worse things than Jar Jar are Jabba, Rancor and the Ewoks.

Revenge of the Sith is not good, ya'll. It's definitely the best of the three but it's still a mess.

Honestly I think for me it just comes down to which one Anakin is least annoying in and I can't believe it's the one with the shitty romance scenes but somehow it is.

I also haven't seen AotC since it came out so maybe that helps.
Congrats to BKSheikah , who knows more about years than anyone else.
I would have originally had AotC at the bottom, actually, but it was on rewatch that it bounced up to the top - by far it was the movie that pissed me off the least, and you're right, it has the least annoying Anakin, which is bizarre given that it's the one with the shitty romance, but oh man its competition!

It's still really bad, but it's the least bad
I actually really liked the Obi-Wan stuff in Episode II, too. It might be the most well done sequence of the prequels.
to me the Darth Maul vs Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan 1v2, plus the podrace lift Episode I above the other 2. 3 is definitely satisfying at the end, to see the stage set for A New Hope (Luke's theme as the sunsets on Tatooine - chills. Everything I remember about 2 was just fucking terrible.

Episode 1 kinda jumps all over the place, and honestly I'm still not entirely sure what the plot to this movie even is. It's just like a series of random events that reaches an end point eventually. Has some cool lightsaber dance scenes towards the end, probably the coolest of the set, but honestly feels like a gratuitous CGI fest for the most part.

Episode 2 is probably the most coherent of the movies, but good god is it boring and the Padme/Anakin stuff is easily some of the most cringe stuff in cinema. Worst of the three and easily, though I think if you had an edit of it that cut off the 90% of Padme/Anakin stuff that wasn't terribly relevant to the plot and just followed Obi Wan around most of the time this could actually be the best of the three, cause it's kinda night and day on the quality of the two subplots.

Episode 3 has a lot of action and awesome cheesemongering, just enough of a cohesive plot that I know what was going on there, and manages to kinda cheat its way into making you almost halfway care about the characters due to having been with them for 2-3 movies now. It's the best of the three and a watchable movie, but still not really all that good. It's on par with TFA though.

3 >> 1 >> 2 I think. Strangely I can almost respect thinking AotC is the best more than Phantom Menace, because I feel like it's possible for AotC to be a good movie by cutting the runtime in half and it's not really possible for Phantom Menace to be one.
No problem!
This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
I'm trying to think of what the best part of Episode III is, and I'm coming up blank. I re-watched the Anakin/Obi-Wan lightsaber duel a couple years ago, and that thing isn't very good. Maybe it's Palpatine chewing the scenery with all his UNLIMITED POWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR shenanigans, but I dunno.
It's absolutely UNLIMITEDDDD POWAAHHHHHHHHHHH for me. Though I still like the stupid lightsaber duel too. Not because it's a good lightsaber duel though. None of the prequel trilogy duels really are. Empire Duel between Luke and Vader is by far the best of the series.

But the dialogue is so ridiculous I can't help but love it. It's all about the cheesemongering for Episode 3.
No problem!
This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Episodes 1 and 2 were so bad I never got around to watching the 3rd one. Episode 2 is among the worst movies I've ever watched, yet somehow, it's still better than Episode 1.

Just awful movies. And I barely considered myself a Star Wars fan when they came out!
ICON:
We've got movie sign!
Palpatine is the best part of the prequel movies, and he has the biggest role in the third one so..
Palpatine is the only good part of the prequels because he's the only character who benefits from bad acting.

RotS is the best by virtue of Matt Stovers novelization existing.*

*Note: I havent actually read the novelization in a decade so this could just be memory warp.
