Valve has been pulling a lot of weight to improve compatability over the years. Rumor is that there is a performance benefit since Windows is so bloated.

Depends on the game and your hardware but for most modern titles there will typically be a slight hit to overall performance. It's just the nature of running additional compatibility layers. It can sometimes help with stutter though or introduce other features and enhancements, which can more than make up for it.

A little note on Windows bloat as well - unless you're running 4 GBs of RAM on a dual core CPU it's generally not an issue. Ironically the debloated builds often have issues that hamper performance, namely that they tend to require extra tweaking to get the 3D cache on Ryzen X3D working optimally.

A bigger problem IMO is "OS rot" which is significantly harder to diagnose and affects all OS from Windows to Linux to Mac. It's why clean/fresh installs should always be preferred over upgrades.

There's been a lot of improvement to stability but you can still see the problems of a lack of general consistency between frequent cuts and subtle unnatural elements throughout. For all our sakes I really hope they never overcome those limitations.

There's some scary improvement in the audio though. It's getting a lot harder to pick up on the usual tells with things generated solely off prompts.

GPU temps are reported via drivers. For CPU temps you need to tap a little deeper into the hardware and having that functionality built into a preinstalled application would not only mean it'd have to be routinely updated it's also a potential security vulnerability.

Mental illness combined with personality disorders. It's not that money can't buy happiness, it's that those with money are incapable of being happy. DLC was mostly free until next gen but it's not like Sony, Nintendo, or even Valve saw what the 360 was doing and hastily added paid DLC support for their stores - it's what developers wanted. Brown and gray dude bro wasn't absent from the PS3 reveal and it was already on the PS2 - it's what consumers wanted.

Meanwhile, Valve showed it was possible to make bank with loot boxes and battle passes. To get around gambling laws they have introduced loot boxes that literally cost $1,000 to get the item.

If Microsoft was that influential then the PS5 would have prioritized generational backwards compatibility.

Upgrading to a major new OS version is usually a bad idea as I've found it introduces "rot." If possible, always do a clean install. If nothing else it's a good excuse to tidy up and update your backups.

As for requirements, I've installed 11 on a hacked Acer Chromebook with 4GBs DDR3 RAM, a 768p screen, and an Intel 2955u. It runs surprisingly well, better than 10 and better than Mint (but not quite as fast as MX Linux). I guarantee your PC can run 11 with less preliminary tweaks than Linux.

I got a Series S for two reasons

1. It was dirt cheap at the time
2. GamePass ultimate

Without GPU it's practically worthless to me.
I've still got time on my subscription but as soon as I need to start paying the full price I'm downgrading to the PC only tier, assuming that's not also $30 by then

Dems are refusing to go along with the Repub drafted resolution because it will cut healthcare even more.

Republicans are saying the Dems are shutting the government down on purpose because they want to spend billions on healthcare for illegal immigrants. Even though immigrants, illegal or otherwise, aren't eligible for the healthcare subsidiaries the Dems are trying to keep alive

And now when a budget eventually gets through they'll be able to say "Look, we stopped all these healthcare payments to illegals!"
