I found this topic and went oh I know all these and then at the current crop of pictures Im like okayI know none of the ones people didnt get yet.

I mean heartbreaker by pat Benetar? that one might be accurate. Either that or you put the lyrics of rip it out by ace frehley instead but thats less likely.

my brain just goes look at this photograph for the manga couple with a photo. But I dont think thats even the song name.

I feel the flag face one is likely some sort of red white and bruised or some other sort of pun. Probably a country song I never cared about because its country.

and then a person with hearts looking at a tractor. My brain is just saying old town road which I bet is completely wrong.

Imma just say, I don't know who this "Musashi" guy is he keeps bringing up, but I knew of Yasuke. So really, which one is "better-known", not that that matters anyway? As mentioned, Yasuke is a perfect choice for an AC game, as the characters are not meant to be well-known historical figures. That would kind of go against the whole assassin "we work in the dark to protect the light" mantra.

musashi miyamoto. Probably the most commonly used historical figure from the time. Hes basically the default samurai cameo for any fiction taking place in that time period. He had 3 confirmed duels, some poetry, and outside of that a lot of myth and feats that cannot be confirmed. Basically like Johnny Appleseed. More folk hero and legend that has a bit of historical accuracy.

Saying that we dont know what Yasuke did is kind of a moot point when the new shogunate un-personed him and destroyed almost all records of his existence.

Likethat kind of makes it hard to find any set number of duels or battles or anything.

Heck, even with people like Musashi Miyamoto, we still dont have any actual evidence that he was in the battle of sekigahara. He claims he was, but theres no proof.

edit: and yes I realize the in-universe excuse is that the woman secretly wanted it. But thats still a violation of personal choice. She said no, then his luck powers happened and then after that she said yes. She could still want it all she wants but still say no. The no was her choice. The yes was his powers. Okay so lets break this down. You picked a bunch of queen songs that were all opera-inspired to prove that they didnt all do opera-inspired songs. Look I have the 3 disk best of queen set. I like all those songs. Theyre still all the same genre. That was my point.

Beatles switched it up.

and yes. Load and reload are good. They gave us fuel, where the wild things are, bleeding me, fixxxer, devils dance, I forgiven 2, until it sleeps, outlaw torn, the house Jack built, and to hell with it attitude is fun.

And you know what, you dont even have to like any of those songs. point was, Metallica has phases. They went basically punk (kill em all is 3 notes and speed), to slower metal (lightning), to inventing thrash (master), to basically prog metal (justice), to hard rock (black), to heavy blues (load/reliad), to an orchestra (S&M), to a purposely unpolished and disgusting sound (anger), to an acoustic album (helping hands), to basically a hybrid of every style in one (hardwired and 72 seasons). The only thing they havent done was a rap/rock hybrid in the 2000s. Or a techno-metal.

my point was that bands that keep changing have longevity. The mainstream, after 5 years, is sick of you. Doesnt matter how good you are, the mainstream moves on to the next thing. Those that regularly bring something new are the ones that get remembered by the mainstream as the best.

youre not seeing mainstream coverage of sengetsu by Iron Maiden. Youre not seeing of the newest Judas Priest album. Etc. Youre seeing mainstream coverage of Metallica doing an Elton John cover and people speculating if garage inc 2 is happening.

that and ace frehley because holy shit hes not dead and these songs are so much better than whatever kiss is doing right now with the avatar retirement thing. Its a perfect storm of people hating Paul and Gene and wanting the heart of the band to do well and that demos made from the 70-90s sound so fresh once again to modern music.

heck, I could throw kiss up as a band with longevity because they changed. They may be treated as a joke but theres a reason why they had the cruise, why they lasted so long, why they have people buying their merch forever and ever and ever. They went through very distinct eras. Original hybrid era (kinda rock, kinda jazz, kinda metal), to a disco hybrid, to an attempt to be prog, to more traditional metal at the time (creatures), to a hair metal band focused on ballads, to grunge, to acoustic, to the reunion tour of lies, to the nostalgia act. If kiss always sounded like 1973 kiss, theyd wouldnt have remained. Theyd have been a flash in the pan for 5 years and then dropped out after the elder and creatures initially bombed.

Okay so this is like one of those questions where technically Queen are better musicians in every way, but the Beatles are still better. Its not about technique or skill. Its about the whole.

Queen did opera-influenced stadium rock.and opera-influenced stadium rockand more opera-influenced stadium rock.

The Beatles however, swung wildly between classic rock, psychedelic, folk, sound collages, parody, odd conceptual things, the first ever speed metal song, etc. It got to the point where every song on an album could be argued was in a different genre entirely. They may not have been good musicians but they were amazing at a vast swath of content.

this is like how metal heads argue about metal. Yeah, Iron Maiden probably are better musicians than Metallica. But Iron Maiden also has played the same galloping triplets for 85 different songs. Metallica switched it up from thrash, to heavy blues, to acoustic, to having a full orchestra behind them, and all of them still good. If Metallica came out with an a cappella album, I wouldnt be shocked. Thats why they remained on top. They werent afraid to do something new. Did it always work? No. But they never stagnated.

beatles never stagnated. Queen did.

The first time the entire party already decided it was Clintons time. He lost a one on one race.

VRX3000
03/30/24 2:20:08 AM
#186
No, Im pretty sure the mothers fault in all this is pretty evident. That much was already discussed and I had nothing to add to it. She killed her kid. all Im saying is,

1) if the babys screams could be heard from a camera outside the house, someone should have noticed just by chance. People had to have ignored it. I understand that for an hour or two. Some babies cry a lot. but eventually i would think someone would have the curiosity to check to see if anyone was home or needed help or call the cops for a noise complaint or something. Anything that would have gotten the ball rolling. I just feel like there had to be an opportunity to save this child that was missed. Im not asking for any of them to go on trial or anything. I was just making an observation.

2) as per the womans intent, its just that my neighbor worked in a criminal psyche ward so Ive heard the long diatribes about what constitutes a psychopath vs a sociopath, etc etc. so when I looked at the details, I dont think this lines up with contempt. I think it lines up more with someone who has lost grip on reality and cause/effect. What specific brand of mental illness, trauma, or drug caused it? I dont know.

its still horrible. That goes without saying. I just feel like people are jumping to the wrong motive

and I spent the better part ofhow ever long that was editing and rewriting this so hopefully I was clear and concise enough. Now to see how many responses I missed whilst typing this.

1) holy shit did no one call the cops or bust down a door? Neighbors, a baby is crying, with no adult in sight? Id imagine someone should have called after1 day of constant screams at the latest? How did literally no one intervene? I feel this infants death is on way more than just the mom at this point. Dozens of people had to ignore this. What the heck are all their excuses?

2) She gave the baby 3 bottles. If youre going to starve someone, you dont give them food. She has another child that she didnt starve to death. All this says to me she actually thought everything would be alright, and shes just walk home back from vacation to a happy, healthy, smiling baby.

so not that it makes much of a difference, but Im not seeing the contempt that everyone is jumping to. I see someone who, for whatever reason, completely lost her grasp on reality. like one day something just broke. The method doesnt match the motive.

Okay so basic concept is that is a parallel for the war in the Middle East.

Spice is oil. Spice makes space travel possible in this world.

the Harkonen are the USSR. They want the spice/oil for themselves and are evil.

The Atredes are British/American. They also want the spice/oil for themselves. They are the good guys but its still a matter of who enslaves the native population this week type of good guy.

the Fremen are the rebel fighters native to the country. So the taliban. They will fight anyone who comes to their planet trying to take their spice/oil.

no body is a good guy. Its all shades of grey.

thats the basics.

to get more complex, there is an added layer of the messiah figure prophecy.

Basically, Pauls mother is part of a religion. That religion is the largest in the world, and has purposely married off into the wealthiest and most influential families of every planet. Said religion also speaks of a messiah coming and they say that to every region/culture they slip into. That way, in thousands of years, the native populations believe this messiah figure is their own native myth.

basically, the Catholic Church (or whomever our real world parallel is) has purposely used religion to brainwash the masses to accept whatever puppet messiah they put in front of the natives. So the religion shoves Paul out there to placate the taliban and give the church a legitimate claim to the spice/oil.

and then there is the world bank, which is purposely manipulating prices to keep the war for spice/oil going in order to make the most money.

once again, nobody is the good guy.

now then. Thats basically it. Yes there are magic powers, other stuff like that. But at the end of the day, its a story about a child raised to be a puppet figurehead caught in a war for oil with everyone on every side trying to manipulate him.

and then the book also adds in the fact that you can read everyones inner thoughts. Which. Is hard to read because there will be 20 people in a room with 20 different inner thoughts.
