It wasn't "should tans people get healthcare," it was "should trans prisoners in federal custody receive gender affirming care." And "I'll follow the law" was "yes."

It was very obviously trying to dodge the question, and the result was angering both sides. Harris did that a lot in this campaign actually.

As a trans person myself, I agree that economy should be the main focus. People like left-wing economic policies when it's presented to them bluntly without buzzwords like socialism. Neoliberal capitalism is failing worldwide, and change is clearly needed, but mainstream left parties are terrified to anger their donors. Though I'm obviously not saying to abandon socially progressive policies (which the Dems already did this election anyway, and lost), stick to them but make the economy the main focus of messaging.

I support the death penalty in theory, but in practice, I would never trust any government to wield that power, so I'm against it for that reason. And it doesn't even save anywhere near as much money as its advocates claim it does.

The average person heard about none of that. Her general messaging was positioning herself as a second Biden term.

The notion of any change at all. Harris pretended that everything was fine under Biden, when it was obvious that the working class do not feel that way. And since the Democrats refused to propose any left-wing solutions, people turned to right-wing solutions, even if they aren't going to work.

In this election, Dems ignored all progressive social or economic policies, and campaigned with far right-wingers like the Cheneys. If they move any further to the right than they already did, they may as well just merge with the GOP. Moving to the right does not work. It gains no new voters, and loses plenty.

The average American is too unintelligent for democracy to work as intended.

I checked her online profile, and it seems her main reason for supporting Trump is because she supports the genocide in Palestine and wants it to go full steam ahead. So she absolutely deserves this.

I honestly do believe that Jill, at least, wanted Harris to lose. And I wouldn't be surprised if Biden did too. He's seemed pretty happy since the election.

We can all say now that there's nothing else Biden could do, but if Trump does go full fascist, and dismantle democracy, I guarantee that people in the future will deride Biden for doing nothing to stop it, and just rolling over and letting it happen.

And yet I do acknowledge that it would be very difficult to actually do something when we don't know for certain that Trump will succeed in that.

I hope the white women who voted Trump are proud for helping put another sex offender into a higher position of power.

Ban porn, and make people who create it be considered sex offenders.

The Democrats will never run AOC because she is actually left of center. If she tried to run, they'd pull some trickery like they did in 2020 to push a boring center-right candidate, even if said candiddate is likely to lose to the GOP again. Democrats would rather lose than threaten their donors.

It's important to remember that Hitler only got into power because the liberal centrist parties chose to form a coalition with him over the left. Capitalism inevitably leads to fascism because capital will do all it can to crack down on socialism, but is okay with fascism. So when the workers realise the system isn't working, they choose to turn to the hard right instead of the left.

If I wasn't trans, I probably would have chosen to stay home the moment she brought Dick Cheney in. I also saw a promoted article in the lead up to the election about an anti-gay, anti-abortion pastor deciding to vote Harris. That made me dislike her even more. Alliances with far-right figures only lose votes, and don't gain any in return. Anyone far enough to the right to potentially be swayed by them are already voting for Trump

The only way Americans will elect a woman is if both parties nominate one in the same election year.

If we can avoid any SCOTUS justices dying or retiring before 2026 there may be a chance. Get Dems in control of both chambers in 2026, block any Trump appointees during his last two years, then stack it in 2028.

Why wouldn't they retire now, when the GOP has full control?

And even if they did retire after 2026, and Democrats did have control of Congress, I honestly believe they'd pass a Trump judge in the name of bipartisanship.

Even if he fails catastrophically and the people turn against the GOP, the Supreme Court is still ruined, and will block anything that could actually improve the country.

With a far right Supreme Court guaranteed for the next several generations, it's safe to say that even if democracy does continue, and Democrats take power again one day, any hope for large scale, positive change in America is dead. Anything good will get overturned by the far right Supreme Court as soon as a case is brought their way.

Yeah, as someone who has helped a family member through the legal immigration process, I can absolutely see why some choose to come illegally. The legal immigration process is designed to be as long and difficult as possible.

You're free to think that. Wag your finger angrily, and write your sternly worded letters. It'll be about as effective as the UN. I just don't see them learning anything until them and their families begin to suffer under the rule they voted for. Better it happens sooner rather than later. Try to shorten the time frame in which they'll be in power.

The best way to fight against fascism is to actively resist its enforcement. Not writing letters, and certainly not helping enforce it.

Taking the high road hasn't worked in this country. At all. It's just allowed us to be drug further and further down the road to the end, with constant concessions on one side, and the other just laughing all the way.

I am a trans woman who's life is going to get worse from this election. Reporting the undocumented relatives of Trump voters is not striking back against anyone, it is enabling Trump's fascism and making life drastically worse for innocents who didn't even vote for him.

No, these people want to report undocumented relatives of Trump voters, not the voters themselves. They want to punish the relatives for the actions of the Trump voter, in the hope that it will make the Trump voter feel bad.

I legitimately do not understand how people can want to enthusiastically comply with and aid in the enforcement of fascist laws and policies against people they dislike, and then call themselves liberals or leftists.

Anyone who reports undocumented people or women who leave their state for abortions, or in any way helps in the enforcement of Trump's fascist policies is an enabler of and supporter of fascism regardless of who they voted for. I have seen people with these views refer to it as malicious compliance. Compliance is a word that should never be used in relation to fascism.
