This just kinda feels like going through all the motions G2-4 set up. All the cool stuff was revealed in the first half, but by the break, you pretty much know that Jigoku is the murderer and Stronghart is the big bad; it's just a matter of how you take them both down.

The Dance of Deduction here is by far the coolest part. Sholmes busting an incorporeal move in court made me bust out laughing and just stare at my screen for a solid 3 minutes when it first happened, but then it was followed up by the realization that he's just gonna win the case for me outright, and by invoking the royal family to boot. Yuck.

Menimemo is my favorite intro case villain in the series. He's very goofy and understands his assignment and role, despite the case matter being fairly dark and serious. He also personifies some of the craziness of Ace Attorney in a way most people don't. "YEAH I STABBED HER, BUT SHE WAS POISONED SO THAT PROVES I'M INNOCENT" is a hilarious representation of Ace Attorney as a whole. He also has fantastic animations. I legitimately think he would make the top half of all meaningful characters in the series if I were to rank all of them.

Thirding loving playing as Susato.

I dunno, I just can't justify rating it any higher than this. It's pretty basic; there's not a whole lot going on.

If it wasn't a finale case, maybe I'd bump it up, but it's so so bad as a finale that I can't help but hold that against it. The villain is just.... there. The surrounding cast is just...... there. When I ranked G1-3, I talked about how it showed you but didn't tell you something about a big twist and that I didn't think anything but 6-5 did that, but now that I think about it, the cat flap is another example. It's a cool twist, but it's definitely the high point of the case, but that's kinda embarrassing for a finale.

This is our main foray into Shady Gregson, though, which is the best Gregson, and is why I like his character so much. And the list of names you get right before the credits is a hell of a cliffhanger to leave you on. I am certainly glad we got G1 and G2 at the same time, or otherwise I would've been pissed.

This case has a few things going for it. The Dance of Deduction is pretty good, and Mr. Garrideb and Natsume are both fine. But everyone else involved suuuuuuuuuuuucks. Having domestic abuse as a silly gag is reprehensible. And it led to very nearly killing someone, and the game expects you to feel sorry for her.

No. Absolutely not.

Fuck Mrs. Garrideb, and everything about this stupid case.

This is definitely my favorite short case in the series. It's perhaps the single case that both respects the player's intelligence and plays with the veteran AA players' expectations in the whole series. It being a case 3 that thrusts you into defending a guilty man is an awesome start, but it does so much more than that.

That you can go look at the inside of the cart and notice some stuff, then go back in later and realize that everything has changed is also really cool. But the sheer fact that the game doesn't TELL you it changed is the clincher. This and the major 6-5 twist are the only two real times I can distinctly remember the game basically showing off a huge plot point without outright telling you what it means. It makes it feel like you know some huge secret you're not supposed to be aware of, and it's an awesome feeling.

The poisoning method is fantastic. And the intrigue of having to usurp control from your lawyer is neat. But the witnesses suck (Hosonaga is ok I guess), and the last half hour of the trial is extremely frustrating because it's about such benign details. Also, taking down Brett is underwhelming at best, and even worse, pretty confusing your first run through the game, that requires completion of G2-5 to get any real explanation for.

6-6 being the final case we got did not play into my ranking of it.

I really don't like this case. It has a few neat ideas, but every new character introduced sucks so bad. I wouldn't mind the defendant so much if her animations weren't so long that they took up 30% of the case. Oh, you mean the only new character that isn't actively on her side the entire time is the culprit? You don't say!

That's really what everything boils down to in this case. Everything that happens is super predictable and there's no surprises to be found whatsoever. It's like they had to go through the motions to check all the boxes and get it over with, so they could have a classic Phoenix/Maya case in the game.

My favorite case in the series. The first half is awesome, the second half is even better. Fucking love this case to death.

This might be the toughest case to rank for me. I legitimately like all the witnesses, the story, the twists, most of what it has to offer. But I don't think anyone is gonna argue against the fact that it's probably the least important case in the history of the series.

I'll go with a 5.8/10.

It's right about average for an AA case. Special props to Uendo, who hard carries here, as one of my favorite witnesses in the entire series. This moment in particular is the 2nd most shocking and intriguing twist of any short case, after the Terry Fawles suicide to me:

It's very, very good. Legit twists, strong cast, and just the aspect of it showing that the people are aware of the Dance of Devotion and know that they can manipulate it to only show what they want it to show is super cool, and fun foreshadowing, it turns out!

Retinz is good. I love the De Fammes so much. Bonnie's so cuuuuuuuuute! The animation where Betty gets angry and starts bumping into her while she just kinda meekly stands there is honestly my favorite animation in the entire Phoenix/Apollo set of 6 games.

Trucy is the best part, though. Her breaking down in the holding cell is maybe the most touching crying scene in the series to me. Other crying scenes feel too forced or don't have the impact that Trucy's does. It breaks my heart.

By the way, a magician just flat out tells us how their trick works in a Japanese murder mystery game????!!!!!! WOW who knew it could actually be that easy?!

Really good storytelling here, but yeah, the murder itself is just kinda whatever, and Nahyuta does his absolute best to suck the life out of the trial.

I do like Aster and the motivations behind what he's done. I think his character arc makes total sense. I would just REALLY like it if I had a proper answer for why the fuck he made Aria, the ONE PERSON HE KNOWS ISN'T SUPER CORRUPT AROUND HIM the fall guy for it. If he simply needed magical talent, Lucio is RIGHT THERE.
