its actually a widely held belief on boomer baseball twitter that many pitchers back in the day threw just as fast as guys today except the speed guns just werent as accurate back then. lol.

but yeah mlb kinda let pitching development get away from them. when pitching became too good the solution was to juice the balls and that just... made teams try even harder to get guys to have even more elite spin/velo. and now every team has multiple guys throwing 100 (except for the rockies prob lolololol).

then they added the shift ban, pitch clock, reduced mound visits, made facing 3 batters automatic, and ended pickoffs which leads to more hits, more steals, and reduced in-game rest... all things that hurt pitching (physically or mechanically for the sport) and benefit offense! only making it more important to get the spin and velo!

very confusing. not sure how they make throwing 91 viable. hitters are too well adjusted to velo now.

afire is a great "literally me" movie. its on criterion channel. it had several nominations in the movie server awards btw. you were in that topic. smh not reading the nominees.

def want to see the coen's reunite. drive away dolls was amusing fluff and, well, tragedy of macbeth is horrific. kind of mindblowing seeing them work apart and how bad it goes compared to when they're together. civil war looks really bad. not sure about monkey man. looks like watered down wick. will wait for non-sxsw reviews.

well i never intended on making it. i always wanted to just get some editing experience and then move back to nyc (los angeles is terrible and i hope it falls into the ocean soon) to work on commercials or otherwise freelance in the corporate world. i preferred doing those gigs (few and far between sadly) to working on feature stuff.

anyway i skim various filmmaker subreddits all the time where people are talking up how much work they get and how they're so fucking pro, like you are right now, and yet they spout the same basic movie takes. sorry to say i am not impressed! glad you're having fun living out your dream of destroying the medium tho.

Digital photography is just a tool. What happens is that it makes things much easier and the process faster and cheaper than analog editing, so there's often less thought and care that goes into shots - "We'll fix it in post" instead of insisting on getting the shot right in camera.

and this thought process being so pervasive is why it is a scourge to the artform. had it never existed and we stuck with film, everything would look substantially better. now almost no one uses film anymore and shit looks fuckin terrible. the end.

• digital photography - it is ugly and that makes it a bad fit for a visual medium
• studios using all of their resources on anonymous "directors" making movies about your favorite video game, comic book, 80s/90s nostalgia IP, etc over and over instead of moving on to something else or letting a great filmmaker do something neat
• new exciting filmmakers immediately selling out to make the lion king or barbie or television or whatever
• legacy filmmakers inching closer and closer to death while flopping at the box office
• streaming causing people to not go to the theater and enjoy the communal experience on the biggest screen and loudest sound system, opting to scroll around on their phone or do chores to the point where they need a youtube explainer of the movie since they didn't actually watch it
• dominant, most popular cinematic language being either solemn dirges by nolan/villeneuve with no verve OR cgi/blue screen/volume vfx driven 'spectacle' with no craft whatsoever and reddit quips and easter eggs to make people soy face
