That was the toughest major at your whole university? Wow. I did computer science and economics, but I think that the math and physics people had it harder. I knew some people who did computer science and math and they definitely had a harder time than I did. Chemistry was probably up there too but I didn't really know any of them.

I'm locked into a major I hate since my GPA is 1.97 and I need a 3.0 to swap. I'm only in bio because my parents kept pushing doctor doctor doctor on me and I had no interests in anything, so I went with it. Even now I still have no interest in anything. I want to drop out since I am a failure in every class I take, major or elective, but then I'd be living on the streets. Everyone I know has had a miraculous event that gave them a purpose and career goal and they love life, and here I am, a piece of shit who is moments away from being a bum or doing something drastic.

You should consider dropping out and figuring out what you want to do with your life. It's clearly not what your parents are pushing on you, and it would probably be better to get a fresh start at a new university with a new GPA if you end up deciding that your path involves going to college in a different field.

It's time for you to start making your own decisions about the path you are on.

I've heard it's far from free over in the UK, but I could be mistaken about that. So it's not just 'Murica that has this issue, but probably it's the most severe in the US.

It's fucked. The incentives are all messed up. The more "highly ranked" universities actually care more about research than teaching. I transferred from a lower ranked to a much higher ranked school and the teaching was actually better at the lower ranked school in a lot of cases because the professors' jobs were actually oriented towards teaching and not research.

It's fucking bullshit but the sad truth is that at a lot of universities, the professors are there more for research than for teaching. So the undergrad curriculum can be often neglected.

It needs to be more about learning and less about being a degree factory that tries to extract as much $ as possible from each family.

I have a friend who did physics undergrad and I remember him telling me about times he had to learn math for a physics class that he hadn't actually seen yet in his math classes. They just expect you to be able to figure it out.

Long story short,

St. Thomas got DESTROYED. It's only just now my friends and I configured a router to get internet access at the local university, one of the only places on the island that still is operating. Luckily, my place is fine, flooding that I can manage. But other friends of mine have had it FAR worse. One of my best friends lost his home, and his work place was destroyed. I'm struggling to get in contact with he also lives in the most devastated part of the island where people's anger, thievery, and panic are off the charts. It's downright the Lord of the Flies over there.
