Notice how the very first picture in the article with the girls in school, notice how that says it's a faith school right below the picture?

That right there is a huge part of the problem. The Muslim community is self-segregating itself away from the rest of UK society, it seems. Obviously there are going to be exceptions, and I'm certainly no expert on this, but it seems like that is part of the problem. When you're living in Muslim neighborhoods, going to Muslim schools, Muslim businesses, etc., it's no surprise that you don't end up integrating with the rest of society.

Faith schools? Sounds like a terrible idea.

I remember in college this electrical engineering grad student was telling us computer science undergrad students that we have it easy when it comes to getting the good jobs in IT/tech/whatever you call it compared to what he went through.

That is not scientific data or anything, but just anecdotal.

It's a super broad field so tons of different things ranging from tech support over the phone (lower wage) to being a hardcore software engineer or something (much higher wage)

It's worth putting some time into thinking about what kind of work you would like as well. Do you want to work in the same office every day or do you want the kind of job where you go to different places a lot? Also the physical nature of the work, someone mentioned being an electrician, that will probably involve a lot more physical movement and stuff than sitting in an office chair I'd imagine.

I'm no expert on what's going on in Europe, but I've heard that a lot of the educated, talented, and skilled workers from the poorer EU countries like Poland have been leaving en masse for the wealthier EU countries where they can get paid more for their skills.

This leads to a "brain drain" or a "skill drain" type effect on the home countries, where the talented workers who would be paying a lot in tax revenue are now gone.

They recovered, it's just that certain things have changed permanently, like there's not going to be a booming West Virginia coal economy ever again for example. As the economy changes, more money is flowing into industries like tech, but the out of work people in those towns in West Virginia aren't getting any of those jobs.

Our society has to face the fact that we have millions of millions of older people who no longer have the skills or the location to find work.

Nope, not only was the kid a model student(I think this was the only time he ever did anything bad), but his brother had gone there and was absolutely beloved. The teacher got forced to take a leaver of absence for the rest of the semester, until our class was gone.

What did you do while you were deployed?

See, I thought was a bullshit war and don't like being thanked just because I served. People do things everyday that require courage and they dont get the same acknowledgements as I did. I served because it was a good job opportunity during my high school/university years (I was in the reserves). Anyway, i digress.

I was there for nine months. 2 months was done as a radio operator in the tactical operations center, I spent 5 months humping a radio with 1ppcli on various patrols and building forward operating bases, and a final 2 month providing computer assistance to those at the Kandahar base.

I built my presentation around the Afghan culture and how they live life different than us.

That makes sense. It's true that a lot of other people don't get thanked much like EMTs and whatnot. It's unfortunate. But still, it's good that you honorably fulfilled your duty and didn't skip out like some people try to and stuff.

I played 32 hours or so of World of Warcraft without sleeping when I was 15. I don't know if it counts as one sitting if I went to the bathroom and stuff, but I don't think I took any break longer than 5-10 minutes at the most.

I didn't have any drugs, probably not even caffeine.

We stopped just after 1980 I think, but still it could have come up in a class discussion about something, or a teacher just deciding to share news or opinions with the class.

I was in 3rd grade when the US went into Afghanistan, and 4th grade when we went into Iraq. We remained in those countries all the way past my high school graduation. I live in the US.

Throughout that entire time, I can say with 100% certainty that not ONCE were either wars discussed by any teacher in any way. The only person who ever brought it up was my 6th grade science teacher and it was just to mention that her daughter was getting deployed and that she was really upset and worried about it.

It's crazy, the nation was at war and it was like nobody was allowed to talk about it in front of the children. It was far too political I am sure. Parents on the other side would have been outraged to hear a teacher give their opinion on it, whatever it happened to be.

I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this, also post what country you are from.

Actually that decision is being put on hold because the Secretary of Defense wants input from some kind of expert panel. I don't think he wants to let Trump kick the current trans people out, it would look bad.

I agree, but it's still not unusual to hear stuff like

"Well, it's against the law and they still broke it, so they were in the wrong!"

If someone is a person who, no matter what, always follows the law to the letter, it's hard for me to believe that the person actually has a real sense of morality.

There are so many times throughout human history where the law and morality have diverged. Think Nazi Germany for one. If you helped shelter Jews or help them escape, that was highly illegal. So these people who say it's always wrong to break the law no matter what would therefore have to say helping the Jews was wrong in this case, because it broke the law.

Same goes for helping slaves escape during the Underground Railroad. That was illegal too.

So if you're someone who thinks "well breaking the law is ALWAYS the wrong thing to do", basically what you're admitting is that you have no actual sense of morality, but you just brainlessly follow what those in charge tell you to think and do. That doesn't seem like morality to me. It just seems like being a minion or a pawn, someone who can easily be controlled into doing someone else's bidding.
