Also, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together...pretty much the entire game, or at least the few chapters I could stomach. The escorts missions are an exercise in throwing up your hands and praying the die align to keep your escorts from killing themselves, making Rafa's mission in FFT an absolute breeze by comparision. The level scaling is brutal, and certain fights (usually containing auto-reviving undead) were literally un-winnable. The thing that finally made me quit was finally getting far enough into the game to obtain a basic bottom-tier revive spell (already enough of a sin to make me wait that long for it)...and it costs 100 fucking magic points to cast...in a game where your magicka starts at 0 every battle and regenerates at a snail's pace. There's challenging, there's unforgiving, and then there's a masochistic game designer getting off on being withholding of the most basic skills of an RPG.

Final Fantasy 6 still has yet to be topped for me. The Opera House, every character having a definitive theme (no small feat for 14 characters, though I suppose Edgar and Sabin shared one), and the ending score that tied everything together so beautifully. Some games are enhanced by their soundtrack, a rare few have their very souls take root in it; FF 6 is in the latter category.

Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross have always been damn close though. I've always wanted to have 'To Far Away Times' played at my funeral.

LTTP really is good as people say it is. Completed it last year for the first time and I think it's one of the best 2D games I've played.

To me it'll always be that perfect blend of open-world freedom found in the first game, and the more structured story-driven gameplay that came later. I always loved that you could do the Dark World dungeons out of order, and that there were unique items that weren't required to complete a dungeon / access an area. But it has just the right amount of structure and plot to keep you engaged; I really enjoyed the first LoZ, but it never gripped me the way LttP did because I could never really get invested in the world due to the lack of story and characters.

Couldn't enjoy SMW at all because of that absurd time limit in levels. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a 2D Mario game because of this horrendous feature. Probably the reason why I've always preferred Zelda over Mario.

That's one reason why SMB2 is the awesome dark horse of the series ^^

It's actually kind of funny - once when I was a kid, I accidentally dug myself into a pit (literally) in one of the desert stages, got stuck and couldn't jump out. 'Ah well, the timer'll run out soon enough and...wait, shit, SMB 2 doesn't have a timer!' I had to reset >_> And that was back at a young enough age where getting far into the game was an accomplishment and not a guarantee. So I learned my lesson hard on that one.

Can we talk about how Charlize Theron makes Scarlett Johansson look like a steaming pile of crap? Seriously, why did they give ScarJo all those action roles when Theron is right there being far better at it?

Charlize Theron is as close to God's light as we can hope to be, and I've always thought it's a crime that she isn't in more high-profile roles.

It's the opposite in my opinion - the gameplay was at least serviceable, but the story was awful. You spent most of your time with new, forgettable characters while the characters you actually wanted to see were largely cameos (IIRC Vincent's only direct interaction with Cloud was through a damn phonecall). You had two villains that were essentially named Red the Red and Blue the Blue. About the only thing I really enjoyed in the story was the tweesty return of Hojo, but he was quickly boxed out by a new, blander character.

PSA: Heads are going to roll in the next few episodes. Tyrion is one of the few people left that knows Littlefinger betrayed Ned in season 1. Well Tyrion AND The Hound.

Both of whom are going to be meeting with Jon pretty fucking soon.

Is Sansa aware of Littlefinger's shenanigans with Ned? She's aware of his involvement in killing Joffrey, being a power hungry warmonger, and that she's the target of his pent up frustration regarding Cat, but I can't recall if she ever parsed out his involvement in Ned's capture/execution.

It's kind of naive to think that word of Littlefinger turning the gold cloaks on Ned didn't get out in King's Landing and beyond, and eventually reaching Stark ears. But apparently none of the Starks know it, or they would have made an attempt on his life at this point. Cat's reaction to meeting him again way back in S2 indicated that she knew the full depth of his treachery, but it's still uncertain. At the very least, everyone has to know that Littlefinger stood by and did nothing while Ned got betrayed and axed.

@voldothegr8 apologies, I edited the bulk of this post when I realized that Sansa's ignorance (and growing arrogance in her perceived intelligence) wasn't particularly relevant to the question.

Nihilism =/= emotional, spiritual, or even intellectual depth. IMO it's the absence of all three.

The show is very well-written and wildly creative (not necessarily smart, creative - there is a difference), which should be enough of a feather in its cap on its own. But the rabid fanbase is quickly ruining it by parading it as some deep philosophical experience that's smarter than every other show there is.

Phantoon and (to a lesser extent) Draygon were both quite freaky, as was Crocomire's death sequence and the buildup to the Giant Metroid attack. Both Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion had some strong horror / suspense elements.

I don't know if I'd personally qualify the Prime series as having horror elements (at least the first two games). But we all have our various thresholds as to what does and does not give us shivers; some people think the Falmer in Skyrim are scary.
