MGS3 is pretty well balanced on both gameplay and story, IMO.

Is the gameplay even good? I never hear anyone talk about gameplay, just the sillyness and it being inconvenient

The thing about the gameplay is that it only really shines in Acts 1 and 2 and it's actually really good there. Act 3 is half a tailing sequence and half an on-rails shooter with a boss at the end. Act 4 is relatively low action and stealth is not needed, ending with a couple of pretty cool bosses, admittedly. Act 5 is a very VERY short stealth sequence and then the end of the game.

It's more that the experience of playing it after having played the previous games feels pretty satisfying considering all the story elements.

Why isn't the teleporting saddle in this game? Horses were already gonna be irrelevant with the introduction of vehicles, sky islands you can warp to and glide from, and a huge underground where you (basically) can't take your horse. Why wouldn't they just add the telehorse to the base game and throw them a bone?

Even though it wouldn't have made much sense in-lore for regular stables to have it as a reward, I would've loved it if it was like the final real reward for collecting Pony Points.

I think Tifa's reasoning for not calling him out is out of some concern for him and didn't want to confuse him. I remember Maximilian Dood said everybody has their own good reasons for not immediately telling the truth, I just don't remember the specifics.

Y'all are defending a map, as big as Hyrule, being pitch black and NOT having an easier way of navigating. Slap Zelda on it and it becomes a sacred cow I guess.

You want a game actually about exploration that's fun, play Outer Wilds.

Like dude, after seeing nobody else complain about Depths traversal your first thought should really be "I must be missing something then" instead of pointing out fanboyism. The Depths has other issues, traversal isn't one of them.

The devs sure love to hide innuendo. I came across a lady who immediately called me handsome, and then said "just take this and don't ask questions." ...It was an egg. She then played coy and said "now let's just forget this ever happened." I immediately agreed and she said "...I'm disappointed that you didn't get what I was going for."

To be fair with the arrow brightbulbs...the game teaches you that first before (IIRC) teaching you about actually throwing items. Still...one should be able to put two and two together.

And if you're complaining throwing the seeds doesn't take them very far...try aiming up. The throwing arc is deceptively long range.

Like, how is it blowing your mind that people are "defending" the Depths when you're intentionally making it harder for yourself? Navigating the Depths is not hard at all.

Yes because traversing somewhere that is pitch black with gloom everywhere and precarious drops and faint light sources that are frequently obscured is a reliable way to navigate.

How is it hard to navigate the Depths? Just throw a Brightbloom Seed and you have a decent amount of light surrounding you. The tutorial island shows you this. The game gives you hundreds of these seeds too, I literally have like 400+ and I've been using them liberally to find my way in the Depths.

Also I'm sorry, I get that for some they don't have the time to be exploring but leaving it up to the player to discover things rather than marking them on the map right away does SO much for the exploration factor and makes the act of exploring much more satisfying. It's a big part of why Elden Ring is praised as well because it leaves the player to discover stuff for themselves.

They do.

Edit: After you find each memory they get marked on the map I mean. You can just take a picture of the stone map with the in-game camera to cross-reference where they are though.

They're a lot more obvious to find this time. They're marked by gigantic glowing glyphs on the world. The Main Quest for it even points you to a secret room in the Forgotten Temple that shows you the recommended viewing order and a stone map of the locations too.

They did NOT explain that connection to the shrines and roots. In fact, what are you talking about?

There's a comment from Robbie during a Main Quest introducing the Depths where he says "interestingly, this Lightroot is directly under a Shrine up on the surface!" and surmises that maybe it's a pattern.

So basically, the key ingredients that make open world exploration fun are snoozed on. Oh, and they couldn't be bothered to make dungeons even though they recycled a map.

But that's OK because you can build a Gundam, which is why I buy Zelda games. So I can build a giant robot.

It's more like a sandbox considering the sheer freedom of exploration rather than a typical open world, so I don't mind it having a building mechanic because it's an extension of the sandbox design. I also feel like, despite a lot of treasures having basic items, there's still a lot of interesting stuff and equipment to find. I will concede though that the dungeons aren't really great. They're almost worse than the Divine Beasts and some already consider those to not even be dungeons.

Stop supporting these not-Zelda ubisoft ripoffs and just buy Elden Ring instead.

I've bought and played both. For one, they never felt like Ubisoft open world game to me. Second, TotK very much feels like the Zelda Elden Ring. The caves are similar to the mini-dungeons in Elden Ring, and it even has a lower level map to fully explore.

The difference is the enemies aren't really tough and a lot of the random treasures you find aren't insanely useful.

Yeah, games have been getting larger and larger while simultaneously I don't have enough time to devote to completing my games like I used to. So I just play until I feel satisfied (usually when I beat it) and move on.

Glad to hear it! I'm keeping myself from playing the demo so I can play it somewhat blind, I had a strong feeling I would like the game anyway.

I've still got TotK to finish though, lol.

It's instantly gonna be worse because they won't have the balls to show a hyper-realistic deer getting shot and dying, despite it being CG.

Doesn't matter to me, people are free to play games however they want.

The demo really convinced a lot of people that this might be a great Final Fantasy game. I haven't tried it yet because I know I was gonna like it based off of who's making it and seeing all the footage they released.

Other games don't let you make a room filled with sandwiches for no reason outside of being able to. Most of them are still designed for last gen.

Yeah, I get it. They probably have to do a LOT just to make it run 60fps on console so they decided not to. Apparently initially they were aiming for 60 but it only rarely reached that, so they decided to lock it to 30 for stability. I'd rather them keep a stable framerate than try and fail to reach 60.

I agree with those who said there needs to be a low fidelity mode for 60fps. Make it an option. The only way you can get both high fidelity and high framerate on any generation is to just play it on PC, straight up. But a lot of console games these days are offering the choice between high fidelity or high framerate, there's no reason Starfield can't offer that.

Wait, I thought the PS5 and Xbox Series X could read four layer Blu-Ray discs... those are supposed to store 128GB of data... so does that mean the game is 130+ GB in size?

Yeah. Basically this means if you want to play the game, prepare to free up almost half your console's harddrive space.

To me it doesn't matter what weapon they use, if the movesets are unique that's all that matters.

5 of them, by the way. I'm counting Pyra/Mythra as one character.

They should offer a 60fps mode with less fidelity on consoles since the PC version will allow it, but overall I'm not really worried about 30fps unless it's a fast-paced game.

Okay the combat gameplay actually looks pretty solid, that's getting me more interested.

It feels like they've learned from every space based game of the past 10 years. It almost feels like there will be too much stuff though. Like they saw NMS and added that. They played FTL and were like, "We can do that!". They saw Outer Worlds and thought that could be in their game, etc.

It definitely seems to be a huge game. I don't think a majority of the game's content is gonna be "good" though. 1,000+ planets all fully explorable? Yeah...it's also a Bethesda RPG so it's gonna be filled with glitches.

My potential hype for this was kinda squandered when they confirmed that there's no space exploration/travel like No Man's Sky. It's just a level select.

That Path of the Goddess game or whatever it's called looked really visually interesting.

I feel they should've just said "in-engine" rather than "actual gameplay" on that Senua trailer, because it was just a cutscene, lol.

The content that each pack came with was worth the price to me. I was heavily satisfied with the DLC choices too.

Sometimes if a character feels really relatable I can immediately get immersed in the story and grow attached to them.

Otherwise, they just have to not be annoying to me.

That's a shame you don't like the settings/characters of XC2 and XC3. XC2 took a little bit to grow on me (about halfway through I started really liking a lot about the game) but XC3 immediately hooked me with both of those aspects. Especially Noah, his character really resonated with me.

One thing that was going through my mind while watching it was "...why can't the MCU Spidey movies have stunning shots like this movie?"

I'm aware with animation there's a lot more freedom with what you can do, but Marvel movies are almost like 80% CGI anyway. Would be cool to see upside down shots like with Miles and Gwen, or flashy swinging sequences, etc. If there's one thing I would criticize the MCU Spidey movies for is that it doesn't have enough inventive sequences to take advantage of his spider powers. The ASM movies and even the Sam Raimi trilogy did a lot in this department.

Yeah the movie was fantastic. If they need to delay Beyond because of the writer's strike then I'd rather them do that than face a lesser movie with crappy AI-generated writing.

I checked it again over the surface instead of the sky and I do actually have a slight left drift. Thought I got it perfect since I didn't have issues re-adjusting whenever I used it, lol.
