This is a remaster any way you slice it and IMO a remaster is never going to be a great thing to end a show on. Still nice that this is going to be available to more people and the (relatively minor) graphical update looks nice but literally anything new would be considerably more exciting, especially when Dolphin exists.

I've always been under the impression that it was all former Tales staff, including the director who has now apparently been brought back in.

Arise going the Xenoblade route with a mini campaign that tests out ideas for future games and sands off the edges of the base game's systems could be just what that game needs.

Supposedly the Scarlet Nexus director is heading up the team for the next game. If true, I already feel significantly better about that than what Arise ended up being.

I was excited for the Fate/Extra anime and more excited once it became clear it was doing weird stuff with the story but the actual show ended up being so bad I didn't even get far enough to realize if there was any payoff to that stuff. Sounds like there wasn't!

Kara no Kyoukai is fucking ace but feels like it could be offputting to most general audiences. Spiral Paradox is absolutely god tier though and would be worth getting to even if the earlier stuff doesn't land IMO.

It's been rated for PC but no official announcement yet. The portion of Nintendo's stock in this one does make it a bit weird but it seems pretty likely to be a timed exclusive.

I still haven't seen the Heaven's Feel movies but that route is a fucking ride and with ufotable packing a movie budget I can only imagine they're completely amazing.

Was the original translation actually that fucked up? My last playthrough (and only one in 10+ years) was with the retranslation mod and she definitely comes across as an outgoing, street-smart girl there.

Holy hell this is a potential shitshow of absolute mythic proportions. Gotta wonder what kind of rampant delisting we might see if this doesn't get walked back due to absolutely universal backlash. The world would be so much better without CEOs.

I was stubbornly using a Scudder in my double melee build as a filler stagger maintain (the only thing these were good for pre-patch IMO) and now my build has a ton more punch, so I'm very happy!

I just saw this! Those are all very fair tweaks and honestly it's hilarious how many people were doomposting elsewhere about Balteus being "gutted" or "massacred" when there was absolutely no proof to back up those claims. I think most people honestly don't realize how easy those first two bosses actually already were upon returning to them after fully learning and beating the game. (With better equipment in tow, to boot)

That's fair I suppose but there are also a lot of really good shows and movies you're locked out of if that's the case!

Kerry is the best and I absolutely loved him as a protagonist. Yeah he's not exactly a great person but his flaws and the actions he's willing to take make him a fascinating lead, especially when contrasted with basically everyone else in this franchise. (But especially Shirou, obviously)

Balance patch dropped last night, I'm kind of amazed it happened so quickly!

No nerfs but they did buff all the weapons people generally agreed needed it the most (assault rifles and machine guns) so that's pretty sweet! They also apparently softened the Ch. 1, 2 and 4 bosses, though there aren't any hard details and folks seem to disagree on what (and how much) actually changed.

For me it starts to go downhill immediately when you get to where Donna and Kelso run off to California.

I actually watched the show for the first time within the last 5ish years and this is exactly where I stopped watching. The decline felt pretty sharp and immediate to me. Up until that point I thought it was pretty darn good with some great episodes! Watched some bits of the last season out of curiosity to see where things ended up and I'm definitely glad I didn't stick around for that.

I finished my playthrough (including dlc) today! Definitely agree that chapter 4 is absolutely peak and I'll be terribly disappointed if we don't get ample Barry in the sequel.

In fairness, Omega Force can drift away from strictly musou gameplay - P5 Strikers is a great example of this and Samurai Remnant looks like it might have combat that's even more small scale than that.

During the 2.0 days it was pretty rocky in some cases. Now though, the average game looks great with it on. Extremely close to native in many cases - plus some weird outliers like Death Stranding where using it actually looks better than native. Notably, on average the results look far better than FSR, though you'd certainly hope that would be the case with a proprietary technology. (And it's worth mentioning that the gap between the two solutions is reportedly about to close enormously with FSR 3.0!)

Been saying for years now that DLSS was the key to helping whatever the next Switch iteration was close the power gap so it's great to see they're supposedly going to be leveraging it.

Man I feel silly - just tried out mouse and keyboard during my own playthrough and realized that mouse gives you so much precise control over your passive flashlight beam that the "soft hold" I was talking about before is 100% redundant. Game feels incredible this way and I wish I'd switched over sooner!

Fate/Grand Order is both the best (being an actually great story and for better or worse the core driver of this entire franchise since its creation) and the worst (BEING ALSO an absolutely disgusting gacha I've personally abandoned and would warn anyone from starting at this point.)

Fate/Apocrypha has some really high highs and some really painful lows.

Fate/Extra is pretty sweet but probably feels a bit clunky by today's standards - also has (reportedly) a vastly superior sequel that's been stuck in fan translation hell for a decade or more.

Most everything else falls under the "watch/play/read if you're head over heels and NEED more Fate" category IMO. So uh, it's a mixed bag even among the best of them, I'd say! We do have the Strange Fake anime coming out soon, and that's supposed to be a great story. There's also Samurai Remnant, a new game coming out this month that looks pretty sweet.

Denuvo has effectively zero inherent and proven effect on a PC port's performance or quality and is probably the single most overblown and misunderstood thing in the PC gaming community.

Not surprised that this is the last one - was holding out hope before Bravely Default's pack was announced that we'd get some Octopath 2 music! Oh well.

Sincerely hoping that they put this on PC once all the dlc is out - this is easily the best game in the series IMO and a total blast to play.

I phrased that badly I think - so on controller, you can gently pull the trigger to raise/aim your light and gun, but it doesn't spend any battery until you fully pull it to do a focused beam. On mouse/keyboard, you can only do the focused beam, so you end up spending a lot more battery since you can't aim without doing a full blast beam.

I wish I could play with keyboard/mouse but not being able to soft hold to aim without using battery is way too much of a loss to me. Hope the sequel has a way of sorting that out with those controls.

Inkjet printers are the biggest racket. My family had a laser printer growing up and my mind was utterly blown when I entered the workforce and realized how miserable and scummy printer companies can be, with HP being the worst offender by far. Firmware updates that make it harder to use anything outside of their overpriced proprietary cartridges, refusing to print if any colors run out even if you just want B&W, etc, etc, fuck that.

Honestly I agree which is why I was legitimately excited to hear they'd be trying their hand at a remake. So much potential there in the modern team's hands as long as they keep true to what made the original great to begin with.

Started up a replay of Alan Wake to get ready for next month! Crazy to remember what it was like playing this for the first time and how far Remedy has come since then. Control really felt like a turning point, looking back - will be wild to see this vibe revisited with the new level of production they've achieved.

I stopped using Siliconera precisely because Jenni was like, the entire feed and her writing and reporting are truly unfortunately bad. Most of her article topics at the time were annoyingly pointless to boot, just really bugged me as a former journalist.

That's definitely true but also you'd have to be either a completely mindless corporate slave or have been hit with some really unfortunate timing to buy a new-gen GPU right now. These last two generations have been blatantly horrible deals.

This is actually getting further away with how many bad PC ports of console games have released recently.

PC numbers have been increasing over time - dramatically so over the last decade, even in Japan where there has historically been a legitimate stigma that it's just for perverts and otaku so uh, not true. (Hilariously I've seen the PC surge in Japan seriously attributed to vTubers which would be the funniest way possible for PC to break into the mainstream there, but I'm not complaining!)

Ah, I do remember seeing that - makes more sense in that context. Haven't used Game Pass in a while myself but losing the $1 loophole had already taken a lot of wind out of those sails for me, even if the overall value at the previous price (which AFAIK hasn't changed on PC?) was still pretty good.

Have a Galaxy S8+ that's basically falling apart. Loses 20% battery just sitting next to me while I sleep and has to be charged multiple times a day. Power cable also barely connects so that whole process is even more annoying. Sort of want to upgrade just to not have to deal with that but also I barely do anything with my phone besides use the browser and some extremely light apps so it feels like a bit of a waste for how much else that money could get me.

Is Sony really in a position to go back to arrogance mode right now? Honestly not sure what sales and subs look like but their offering this gen is pretty anemic IMO

I haven't been able to dig into this nearly as much as I'd like, but this game is a total blast so far. Only on chapter 2 but the mech customization and all the different options you can play with is really clicking with me. Super cool to be able to bounce between so many different builds with relative ease even just while going through your first run, and the design definitely encourages doing just that, which is great. (Although hilariously I somehow managed to beat Balteus without needing to switch in some plasma just through liberal use of the spin2win laser sword)

Very interested in Samurai Remnant and Lies of P but I'm probably going to take the month off of new releases after finishing AC6 to do some replays and maybe some indie games I've had on the backburner. Especially want to replay Alan Wake to refresh myself for October.
