Man I love the PS5 d-pad for fighters, surprised to see multiple people having issues with it. PS4 might still be a smidge better depending on your preferences, though.

Also this game is kind of ridiculous in just how many "wow this genre should have done this 10+ years ago" features it's cramming in completely unapologetically. Like they straight up dropped the gauntlet and dared every other developer to try and catch up.

HOT month. FF16 would be the top but I'm waiting for the PC release - extremely excited about SF6 too, though. Betas felt totally fantastic to play in a way that fighting games haven't to me for more than a decade.

The prologue seemed really explicit to me that Calamity Ganon was the malice pouring out of the sealed Ganondorf directly below it, but tons of people seem to be confused about that so maybe I'm wrong and there's something later in the game that debunks that?

Yeah I feel like if you do the Depths at all you get way more resources than anyone would ever reasonably need. I agree with the other folks that if 1000+ Zoanite and the gachapon flood of devices somehow isn't enough for you then you should just consider reloading after you spam your toys.

I don't think it's unanimous that Astral Chain or even Bayo 2 is better than 3.

3's story and tone are garbage but the gameplay is legit cool and the balance of the combat blasts Bayo 2 completely out of the water IMO. Miss me with all that reliance on awful Umbran Climax for basic juggling and even being able to hit score targets on time. Bayo 1 is still somehow their finest tuned game, though - honestly blown away how right they got that on their first try.

Wonder how long we need to wait to see who's actually making this thing. Even more curious to know since that last tweet sure seems to imply there may be more of these if it does well.

Not that I don't share the skepticism - I really need to hear who's actually making this thing before I can even begin to care one way or the other.

MGS4 being eternally trapped in PS3 jail would be as funny as it is sad and frustrating - at least emulation is coming to the rescue with some specifically tuned forks nearly perfect by now. Wouldn't mind a fresh port of Rising considering how many issues the original PC port has, though!

MGS3 is my favorite video game of all time and it kinda sucks that there's no way I can get excited about tomorrow given how things have been with the series (and Konami in general, obviously.) Maybe that'll change depending on who's heading this up and what we see - I wasn't sure it was possible for a RE4 remake to be at all meaningful or worthwhile and I was just proven extremely wrong on that so I guess I should be a bit more open-minded!

The best possible thing I can hope for right now is that in addition to whatever the new project is they finally let the legacy collection out of PS3 jail.

Have you ever felt the rush of pressing the Y button half a dozen times in close proximity to an enemy, knowing the enemy will only take 20% of their health in damage because enemies have to have high health in a combo-heavy game?

1000% yes because those first six button presses are just the tip of what I have in store for that enemy and that's before I start surfing on my rocket arm

I think this might be the game that breaks the Zelda timeline.

I've been watching out for little details on this since the prologue seeing as the Imprisoning War is something that happens in one very specific branch but there's a ton of other stuff in this world that already doesn't line up with that at all. Very funny to see after they were so cautious and ambiguous with and even following BotW's release.

Like i said, I think koroks are a lot easier this game. They're not tucked away in hidden spots - they tend to be in really obvious spots. And you can see most of them by flying around after recalling a sky rock up then flying around.

I'm not even remotely a Korok hunter (like I mentioned earlier, I think I'd legitimately go insane making them any kind of priority) but so far I almost feel like I'm finding less in TotK that aren't the backpack ones. For reference I'm almost done with Central Hyrule and the Rito area and have thus far collected ~30 seeds, a solid majority of which are from backpackers. Not sure if it's whether I just don't remember what to look for (or if what to look for has changed) but I feel like by the end of BotW if I said "oh, there's probably a Korok there" it was usually true but here I usually don't find anything.

The game really lays it on thick that it wants you to do Rito first but beyond that I have no idea since I haven't finished it yet myself

Yeah that level of seed sweeping would drive me to drink I think, but if you're having fun that's the important thing!

Insane that this character is finally playable now that the series story is over after 25 damn years

I talk smack on BotW's flaws all the time but I still do really like it for what it is. It just has a boatload of problems that get ignored way too often. 6ish hours into TotK and it seems to be doing a lot to address many of my smaller issues with it but I'll probably need dozens more hours before I can say with any confidence that they've done anything for the rest of them. So far what's here is very promising, though.

First thing I did after the fuse tutorial was fuse a sail to a stick to create a gust weapon, then blow a full pack of enemies off the island and into the abyss.

I think this is going to be fun!

Space Station Silicon Valley

The shrine puzzles themselves are cool but they're so isolated from the game world and I'm pretty sure BotW has an actually single digit number of puzzles with that level of intrigue that are organically in the world itself. It's almost exclusively limited to the quests that reveal a shrine.

Early impressions say there's a ton more of that in TotK which is fantastic to hear because that utter lack of stuff in the world that wasn't either spotting a shrine or Korok Seed Concepts 1-5 was such a crippling weakness compared to how cool the game's systems were.

Odyssey blows BotW away IMO and it comes down entirely to open levels vs. open world. I know this is a contentious phrase but BotW's world legit feels empty for vast stretches whereas every world in Odyssey is absolutely bursting at the seams with platforming challenges and puzzles. Yeah you get some stinker moons in the process but if BotW used its space even a tenth as well as Odyssey it'd be a game of the ever candidate for me. Very glad to hear from early impressions that TotK has at least improved on that aspect somewhat.

I would be way more excited for this if they made any balance changes to it. I've played four full campaigns with a group of friends and we all feel like the game is pretty "solved" at this point in terms of the obviously dominant classes and playstyles.

For anyone who hasn't played, there's really nothing quite like this game, but it's definitely not for everyone. This is essentially a board game RPG that will take you and your group upwards of 20 hours to complete and is full of some of the most dick-smashing moments of unbridled video game-induced rage imaginable. This game actually is the friendship destroyer that everyone gently memes that Mario Party is. If your group can handle that, it's an insanely fun (if sometimes infuriating) ride.

I put the character destruction of act 3 purely on the scenario itself; Veronica herself is fine but that whole act even at a conceptual level is actively insulting.

Through the gate literally every single time, belt or no, and it continuously blows my mind that people do otherwise.

From a purely selfish personal disruption angle I don't watch any ongoing TV so this has effectively zero impact on me. I was watching lots of stuff back during the previous strike that was all totally upended, though. Doesn't really feel like modern TV delivery mechanisms (ie streaming releases as opposed to daily/weekly broadcasts) are really in a position to get hurt by this nearly as badly.

ACG also apparently tweeted out early (has since been taken down) calling this one of the worst games of the year. Super unfortunate but this does sound like a mess. Definitely agreed that this smacks of corporate meddling - the AAA checklist nature of it is so far removed from what Arkane usually does and it feels like there was no real vision of how to combine all of those boxchecking elements.

It's obviously Zelda but shout out to Humanity for having a demo that made me extremely interested in picking it up once my plate has a bit more room.

Was not expecting all the Zone of the Enders looking stuff in that trailer! I've never played an AC game but I was under the impression it had more grounded, heavy, slow mechs. Have I just been totally wrong or is this a major shift?
