Kyuubi4269 posted... mrduckbear posted...under California law, death penalty can only be sought if the murder was because of race, religion or nationality. In a way, yeah. Murder somebody because they piss you off? Obviously that's bad, and not the sort of person people want roaming the streets, but it's a relatively narrow focus in terms of potential targets. Murder somebody because they're a certain race? That means that everyone of that race is a potential target, and the only thing standing between that attitude and a successful genocide is a lack of opportunity. It also means that the murder can be seen as a form of terrorist threat, which I know you're okay with punishing harshly. Now, I personally disagree with the death penalty in pretty much any circumstance where it isn't absolutely necessary (such as a credible escape risk for a particularly terrible criminal), so I still don't agree with that policy, but I can understand the logic. |

They're already suffering because of the actions of people who weren't even their ancestors. Is it right to protest this redistribution as being it a punishment for their ancestors' actions while also turning a blind eye to people whose lives already suck without even that justification? This is why reparations are a tricky ethical point: both the harms and benefits of the past's gross inequalities are felt by people today, and the only way to alleviate those harms is to take away the benefits from people who did nothing but be born into the right family to be reaping them. |

Kyuubi4269 posted... My view actually looks a step in to the future, what does yours do? It's an ideology, it's not a working practice. Your general philosophy is "they won't hurt you if they're afraid of you." That's all well and good, provided you can accurately predict and control that fear. A far more effective approach is "they won't hurt you if they can't hurt you," because then you can guarantee that control (and, by extension, you don't have to do anything if they can't hurt you). Disabling your attacker will much more reliably protect you than trying to intimidate them will. Kyuubi4269 posted... Strike 1 is worth 100, strike 2 is worth 300. You really are bad at math. 100N is the numerator in the expression I gave, but not in the calculation of the percentage in the first place (which is what I mentioned denominators in reference to). A 100N punch when one can exert a maximum of 100N is a 100% punch. A 100N punch when one can exert a maximum of 300N is a 33% punch. 100N=100N, ergo, 100%=33% if you account for the difference in denominators (maximum strength). Simple math. Unequal punches are not equal. Kyuubi4269 posted... You have failed to display why a human would be wrong to deliver a tried and true methodology of establishing dominance to suppress aggressors. Furthermore, the whole "smart people spend more time studying and less time sexing" thing ceases to be at all applicable past university, since being more intelligent decreases the average number of hours needed to work in order to survive. It does indeed sound to me like a bunch of "experts" trying to explain why they aren't getting any and refusing to accept the actual answer of "because you aren't doing anything to attract women." It's certainly an option, but it stops being a necessity. You might not get promotions if you don't do your homework, but at least you'll be able to eat. That's less true of lower-paying jobs with minimal qualifications, where that extra few hours of work a day is what's needed to avoid choosing between rent and food. 2-4 hours a day is also much more than is really applicable for many fields. For most fields, professional development doesn't have to take the place of a social life. Zeus posted... Kind of a creepy response which suggests that all of the autonomy is in the hands of women, in that they approach you and initiate every phase whereas, in reality, it's almost always the guys who approach. A lot of guys don't have sex until later in life because they expect women to just approach them instead of making the first move at every step. I'm considering asking women out to be a part of "doing something to attract women." In retrospect, "attract" is an awkward verb to use to make that point, but the basic gist of the argument is that they should stop trying to blame anything other than their insistence on waiting for women to fall in their laps. |
