Should prison sentences be relative your age against average life expectancy? Relative sentencing is inherently prejudicial.

Prison sentences serve to isolate a criminal from society for society's protection. How long the person's expected to live doesn't change that, so making prison sentences relative to life expectancy would be silly.

Fines, on the other hand, serve to deter people from committing minor crimes by providing a deterrent. When a fine is a flat number, though, that means the poor end up unreasonably crippled by it, while the rich laugh it off and go right back to committing exactly the same offences. That means a flat fine doesn't do its job properly. Base it on income, and it can properly act as the same degree of deterrent for everyone. Unfortunately, that also means you'd never see a speed trap outside of a gated community again because that'd be where all the money is, so that's a bit too simplistic a solution.

Which nobody should be doing, so I'd say it's just a waste of money across the board. Really, commercially available cars shouldn't even be capable of going much faster than the highest speed limit in an area (i.e. 75-80 mph for the US). Lift that cap for things like race cars and emergency vehicles, of course, but there's no reason it should even be possible for a regular driver to go faster than that.

Even if this happened as stipulated, it still sets terrible precedent. If a mother can be charged for what happens to her fetus, how far does that logic carry? Can we charge her with assault if she has a drink while pregnant? Reckless endangerment if she goes partying in a rough area of town? Pretty much. This is exactly where Alabama's new abortion laws lead: holding the mother criminally responsible for the death of her fetus if it's deemed she endangered it. This case seems straightforward enough, and not necessarily objectionable on its own, but it sets a very, very dangerous precedent. As mentioned above, this exact logic can be used to charge a pregnant woman with manslaughter if she's found at fault in a car accident that causes a miscarriage. Heck, depending on where they decide to draw the line for "endangerment," she could be charged for even taking the risk of getting into the car in the first place instead of staying safe at home for the entire pregnancy.

If this case is considered felony murder, then it means that literally every miscarriage has to be investigated as a wrongful death, with the potential for manslaughter or murder charges to be applied to the mother. This is the price of criminalizing abortions.

Some would probably say so, in some ways. Not so much in others. I can't say I really pay much attention to how masculinely others perceive me. If I like doing/eating/drinking/whatevering something, I'll do it.

So... fire them and hire/elect new people that will actually do their jobs? I feel like that's a provision that should be in place.

I'm not seeing 4 exclusively because I don't think there is anywhere for that series to go but down. 3 ended on an absolutely masterful note.

As much as I hate that 4 exists, given how perfectly 3 ended the whole thing, it is actually looking really good.

There are only mixed signals if you read more into it than what's actually there. One can want to attract attention without wanting to attract attention from you, after all, and one can like when people look but not like when they stare like drooling idiots.

I started a Crusader a few weeks ago for this season. Farmed up pretty much everything I needed for the Thorns set and got together near-complete sets for Condemn and Hammerdin, but I've drifted away and started playing Warframe instead. I wanted to get a LoN Blessed Shield build up, but I just didn't spend the time needed to get the number of ancients that would have needed.

The fact that they probably wouldn't have been caught if they hadn't used non-spec tires really drives home how much of a mistake this was.

I started as a Monk in Season 15, so Raiment was the set I got from Haedrig's Gift and I didn't really have much choice except to start with it (I mean, I did, but you know what I mean). It also didn't help that it took me forever to get the Shenlong fists, which are kind of a critical part of that build. My progression kind of suffered for that. I ended up making a Leapquake Barb (followed by some other builds for it) before that Monk really came online and was kind of blown away by how much easier it was to farm with a finished build. I finally got my Shenlong fists basically right at the same time as the Season 16 patch came out, which included the huge buff to a lot of sets (Raiment included), so that Monk ended up getting somewhere on the order of a 15x damage multiplier all at once, which was kind of fun.

Pretty much. China's a problem, but Trump's approach is moronically hamfisted and seemingly more concerned about throwing his weight around than actually driving positive change. It's also just targeting China, so even if the tariffs succeed in motivating American businesses to move their manufacturing out of China, they'll just move to another country with no regard for human rights that therefore has cheaper labour than domestic manufacturing would, rather than bringing it home.

Can you not get somebody to call it for you?

Pretty much. Creeping is a subtle, covert art, and must be practiced with care. Never stare too long or too openly.

Leapquake is a bit of a pain when you can't actually aim your leaps, but it's a fun time. Not as bad as trying to do Raiment with a Monk and not being able to do short-range Dashing Strikes, which was unfortunately my first character. Still viable, but effectively having to Dash twice every 6 seconds (once to refresh the bonus, then again to get back in position) was a major hassle.

Sure, but that doesn't qualify as "zero grasp of basic grammar." If she truly had zero grasp of basic grammar, the whole sentence would be barely decipherable because it would follow no syntactic rules at all. You're exaggerating purely for the purpose of insulting and discrediting somebody who's done nothing to wrong you in any way, which is just terrible and you should feel terrible.

Also, if you're going to play grammar police, you would do well to bring some commas. Just saiyan.

Honestly, I thought you knew. Spider-Man had been a member of the team at one point as a temporary replacement (something that's been done with other heroes as well), in addition to serving on the Future Foundation. That's even before you get into stuff like the Fantastic Five and other alternate continuities.

Oh, I know very little about comics. Just slightly more than I'd get from seeing most of the MCU and a handful of other movies and TV shows here and there. They've just never interested me enough to actually get invested in them.

With mods, sure. I find Vanilla a little too directionless for my liking, so I haven't played much of it since discovering the joys of modding. Though Factorio scratches the factory-building itch better than modded Minecraft ever could, so that's diminished its value a bit for me. Still, it's given me hundreds - if not thousands - of hours of entertainment over the years, so I'd have to go with Yes.

At this point, "20-30 years" refers to the 90's. That's pretty modern, even if we're using a definition of "old" music that includes things from the 20th century. At worst, we're talking about one or two monosyllabic words that will only ever be used to refer to a tiny handful of people when they specifically request it (and even then, most non-binary folks are fine with "they," which is already used in circumstances where somebody's gender is unknown). That's really not "muddying the waters," nor is it for no reason (most decent people would consider making people happy to be an adequate reason to do something if the cost doesn't outweigh that happiness). I'm sure you can manage to remember a new word on the off chance somebody specifically asks you to use it to describe them. That's really not that complicated. You already do it every time you meet somebody with a name you haven't heard before.

Yeah, don't pick Bravely Default. If you do, don't expect to finish it. The game starts REALLY strong, it is amazing for the first section. But, woo boy, does it go south hard and fast. The game is painfully redundant.

Story-wise, at least. It stays good and strong as far as the gameplay goes (job customization and whatnot), though the superboss content does mostly boil down to using one of a variety of cheese strategies to win a game of rocket tag.

Loud? She was talking to herself with sign language. She was looking at the blown up calendar and signing her thoughts at the wall in front of her. Pointing at dates, signing some more, making faces, etc. All quite silent.

Huh. Interesting. It's strange for me to think of somebody thinking in sign language, since I see it completely as being a representative of English instead of its own discrete language, but I guess it makes sense when signing is one's primary language.

I often put diced strawberries into non-strawberry ice cream when they're in season (or at least close enough to being in season that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for garbage berries), so...

Yes, that's assuming the spell is cast on cooldown. If it's not, particularly if you have lots of spells to get through, CDR loses value. Particularly, if you're looking at DoT's, debuffs, buffs, or other duration-based abilities that don't stack, there's a CDR breakpoint after which any extra is unnecessary because you can have 100% uptime (though, generally, that's going to be more than 10%). For those skills, though, doublecast is totally useless, so this comparison doesn't really apply.

It is also worth noting that CDR plays a much greater role in any utility skill than doublecast does. Reducing the cooldown on a movement skill, for example, makes traversing the map that much faster, contributing more to clear speed than the same boost just to damage would. Similarly, if you need a defensive skill to take on larger packs, CDR means less waiting around for that. It's also just nice from a QoL standpoint to have abilities available more often and not feel like you're waiting, though that's not something that's easily quantifiable and therefore never really shows up in min/max theorycrafting discussions.

Unless you're concerned about addiction, formally quitting any leisure activity is pretty silly. If it's not fun, don't bother with it. If it is fun, bother with it until it's no longer fun, then do something else. No need to make a big deal out of the fact that you're bored doing something.

You can't say it on here. They moderated it, because there can be moderatable content on it.

Which is really rather silly, given that the entire internet can have moddable content on it due to not following GameFAQs' rules. I suspect the real reason is that it lets users bypass the control the mods try to exert on the boards' content, though there's also an argument to be made that it enables harassment.

As common as this sentiment is, it's actually wrong. Objectively so. On average, those who live generally healthy lives and happily survive into their 90's are the ones that end up costing health care systems more money, since it gets really, really expensive to cover all the health problems that naturally show up when people get that old. The ones who are morbidly obese and die of a heart attack at 60 cost more than healthier 60-year-olds, certainly, but those healthier 60-year-olds spend another 30 years racking up healthcare costs and needing joint replacements and pacemakers and caretakers, all of which add up to a whole lot more than a couple heart attacks.

Is it still going to rub people the wrong way to end up paying for self-inflicted health problems? Sure. But it's not actually going to cost them more money than it would if they were only paying for people with healthier lifestyles, since a healthy lifestyle just means you get to spend more later on. You're probably never going to convince Americans to prioritize objective, practical data above individualistic principles with no grounds in practicality, since that's kind of their thing, but it's nonetheless objectively wrong to complain so much about funding bad habits.

People generally don't like paying for old games as though they were new, even if those old games are easily worth the higher price by pretty much any metric of valuing games. Given that Secret of Mana was available for $8 on the Wii's VC, I can understand people balking a bit at $40 for the three, but the fact that they had to localize Trials does justify that to some extent.
