3 - Disc 2 - Sidequest nonsense (or just half of Disc 1 to like Cloud's recovery or some shit)
4 - Endgame

Would I want that to take another 20 years? No...but that's probably the likely scenario.

The issues with the remaster was

1. The crashing (though autosave after every room did better for this than say SO3)
2. The music (some of it in the middle of the game is great, but the game STARTS AND ENDS with the bad)
3. Voice acting is hit and miss (mostly miss)
4. Visual quality (yeah. The "no face movement" thing is a thing)

That said, I actually enjoyed it because the game re-balanced everything so basic melee attacks can be useful. I don't recall spamming magic, and the only times I needed to do it was Lunar Boost to get crits). It makes bosses easier, but I'd take the variability over the original's "magic only or charge only" approach.
