So there are obvious comparisons you can make with Jenova to the likes of Sin and Lavos, who had some strength in the villains contest despite being silent antagonists who barely qualify as characters. Clearly that has to do with being in very strong games. I think Jenova has an advantage over them design-wise, especially "literally just a fin" Sin. Even though I think people are less likely now to vote for a not-a-character character, I think Jenova can pull High Fodder. Mostly because its FFVII.

Rattata I also say is High Fodder. Everyone has used a Rattata in the games and even though the rat is weak and doesn't have an interesting design, it has some very popular memes associated with it. F.E.A.R. and Top Percentage Rattata will definitely sway some votes in the rat's favor.

For Jon I will say Low Fodder. I'm not sure how well-liked he is, but from what I can find he played a large role in the controversial last season of GoT and doesn't have the plus of being a hot girl or a memetic badass.

Tina I will Re-rank at Low Fodder. I don't think she benefits as much from the TJF as other DoA girls based on her design, and I don't think many remember her compared to the likes of Kasumi and Ayane. Not to mention how niche the series is nowadays.

Some parts of Gfaqs do remember Tina for beating Gordon back in that first contest in 2002, but that wasn't much of a surprise looking back. Dead or Alive was legitimately a more popular series than Half-Life back then, with Gordon only having the first HL game to draw from.

I agree with Low Fodder for Athena. She's been in a lot of games and is really popular in Japan, but I don't think magical schoolgirl idols are really Gfaqs' thing. Plus I think she'll have pic issues, since her design changes in basically every KoF game.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Meme-achu and Low Fodder for Lizzie.

Agree with High Fodder for Donald. He isn't an all-encompassing icon like Mickey, but he does have the advantage of being a main party character in most Kingdom Hearts games. And his voice is almost as funny as Mickey's.

Second re-ranking Tina. I didn't realize just how much stronger Kasumi looked than Tina in that contest. Obviously DoA was much more relevant back then, but now I'm thinking Tina may be the weakest of the original DoA girls.

Triss - agree with Mid Fodder

Megaman Volnutt I will deviate on and say Low Midcarder. Legends seems to be much more fondly remembered than the Battle Network games, and the Legends 3 cancellation was a big deal that some people are still salty about to his day even though the OG Mega Man did end up coming back. And Volnutt also has a much stronger resemblance to the OG Mega compared to EXE.

Agree with High Fodder for R2-D2, because Star Wars is crazy.

Agree with Fodder Line for Mickey Mouse. Everyone knows him and he is well-liked in Kingdom Hearts. Beyond that though, its a toss-up on whether or not the average voter grew up with Mickey cartoons or games.

Going back to the MK character poll, Liu Kang did. . . fine. He is a memorable character thanks to his dragon motif and over-the-top battle cries. I think most actual MK fans dislike him, but that won't have much of an impact on his contest strength here. I'll give him Mid Fodder.

Jack Bauer is Low Fodder. It's been over ten years since 24 was a relevant tv show (the revival without Jack failed miserably). Also Keifer Sutherland likely far better known on this site for voicing Snake in MGS5, than he is for playing a character in a long-finished tv show. He might have been worth something back when the Jack Bauer Interrogation meme was a thing.

What do we know about Streets of Rage on the site? The Genesis poll from 2018 put the SoR series between Phantasy Star and Shining Force, which isn't terrible considering this is JRPGfaqs. Streets of Rage 2 appeared in the 2009 games contest only to get destroyed by 2 Nintendo games and the original Doom.

Blaze is probably the best-liked character from the series, and unsurprisingly she's hot. Also SoR4 is due out this year. I think Blaze will have enough to be Mid Fodder.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Marge. She might be slightly stronger than Lisa, but I don't think enough so to move up to High Fodder. She does stand out quite a bit due to her hair though.

Low Fodder for Mimic. I don't think most people like this type of enemy - getting an encounter instead of an item is never a good feeling.

So the last 'real' Zork game was in 1987 - I wasn't even born yet. So Grue should end up as LAW Fodder.

I say Mid Fodder for GL and Minnie, mostly because they're such well-known characters.

All the incarnations of Lantern have a very consistent design and the power ring. GL is a favorite of some purely due to the creative power potential that the ring provides its wearer. The Justice League GL is quite popular too, and I imagine some memes from the Green Lantern movie will find their way to the boards if he appeared in a contest match.

Minnie is obviously no Mickey, but she's been in a lot of classic Disney platformers and does have sizable roles in several KH games.

Agree with Low Fodder for Oliver. I think his game makes GOTD but the lead character still won't be worth much.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Johnny. I think he always should have been mid, but he was rated very early on when the tiers weren't strongly established.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Hunter and Low Fodder for Lynx. I will say Mid Fodder for Cranky only because of the Kong name and being the most prominent NPC in the DKC games. And some of the Gfaqs demographic is old enough to start relating to Cranky a bit.

I say High Fodder for Raiden. Even if Scorp and Sub-Zero are far more popular than him, Raiden is still very recognizable and was everywhere in the 90s (he was in NFL Blitz!). Also iirc he was the story lead in MK9. I think he should probably take Johnny's spot as high.

Agree with Low Fodder for the other 2. Lu Bu didn't do badly in CB9 but was also uncomfortably close to the weakling Groose. A lot of people know Mr. Resetti but -no one- likes him power surge turned off the game? too bad, here's a lecture :<

For rankings, Low Fodder for Papyrus. His more popular brother didn't do well though that might be partly due to anti-votes. Papyrus may well see some anti-votes too.

Kanji is generally a well-liked character, but not everyone is on board with his hot temper and the particular brand of humor he brings to P4. I say he's Mid Fodder.

Kitana I will give Mid Fodder not because I think Gfaqs (or anyone for that matter) cares about her as a character. It's TJF of course, along with her generally stripperific design. I believe she's been in every main MK game since 2 as well.

Miku I feel has enough to be Mid Fodder. Gfaqs definitely has its fair share of weebs (for lack of a better term), as evidenced by characters like Neptunia making CBX, and Miku is much better-known. As far as people voting for her on the basis of her music or rhythm games, I think it will be very hit or miss. The rhythm games are good (I played the one on PS3) but the play rates are probably not. She has a few iconic songs (Leekspin, Popipo, etc) that a lot of people on the site should be familiar with. This should give her an advantage over low fodder characters, at least with the majority of weeby voters.

Agree with Low Fodder for Error. I think the meme is less well-known than "This guy are sick", and Zelda 2 isn't exactly a popular game.

Agree with Low Fodder for Robin Hood. He doesn't have a single distinctive interpretation that can provide a strong match pic, and there are no popular games starring him. The biggest recent thing is him being a Persona in P5 - a late game one at that. Everyone knows him but very few will care.

Metal Slime - it still looks like the iconic Slime and I don't think many will anti-vote based on how annoying of an enemy it is. I'll say Mid Fodder, barely.

Kris I say is Mid Fodder. She is a bit obscure nowadays, but Kris is definitely remembered (by picture, not by name) for being the -first- female protagonist in a main Pokemon game. And Crystal is still a nostalgic game with a pretty high play rate on Gfaqs.

Jackie Chan I will give Mid Fodder, but I'm not entirely convinced due to how Jackie's image changed once he stopped being a big action/comedy star. He's been called out for being a shill for China and abandoning his daughter. And his movie roles for the past 10 years have been rather low-key, except perhaps for the Karate Kid remake.

I think Lee can still manage Mid Fodder, even though TWD and Telltale games in general are far less popular today than in 2013. Lee nearly managed to win his match back then, and his game still has plenty of fans on the site. He was a well-liked character as well, so I don't think a lesser opinion of his game will have a huge effect on his strength.

I don't have any experience with the game so I'm not sure how big of a role A2 has. But she looks really good design-wise and should get TJF boost. I'll say Mid Fodder, though she could be high depending on how big her role in the game is.

I played maybe 10 hours of FFXII ten years ago, so I don't really know much of Vayne. He's a corrupt politician who doesn't seem likable, so I'll put him at Low Fodder despite being playable in Dissidia 2.

After some thought I will put Terry back at Mid Fodder. It doesn't seem like he caught on much as a popular character in Smash and faded quickly once Byleth was announced. I think it would've been different if there was a major KoF release to coincide with his appearance. But as it stands Terry is viewed as a character who only got into Smash because of Sakurai bias.

The FGC and perhaps some older Gfaqers know the importance of Terry and SNK arcade games, but most of the site never played Fatal Fury or KoF and thus see Terry as an outdated and overhyped character.

This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Kain and King of All Cosmos are Low Fodder - neither looked good in CB9 (I didn't even remember both being in that contest).

It might be a bit of stretch but I will give Shredder High Fodder. He's an iconic villain with a LOT of appearances under his belt. The only TMNT-related media I can think of that didn't give him a large role was the third 90s movie. He has a pretty consistent design and was a "cool" villain at the right time to hit the Gfaqs demographic. And the name "Shredder" is peak late 80s edgy. My only concern is that voters won't have a good view of him nowadays, due to how incompetent Shredder was at fighting the turtles most of the time.
