You, seem to not get how marketing works. If white people, the majority, didn't buy diversity stuff they wouldn't make it. Because it sells better overall they do. As I said many times already. If literally only black people went to Black Panther it would have bombed. That's not a big enough market. So they market to other groups too. The biggest demographic that saw the movie was white straight males. They also captured many other groups as you note, and as such however many racists they lost were easily made up for by the other groups.

Okay what is the point? Am I supposed to feel bad for comic buyers that they aren't being marketed toward or something? Or they don't like other groups being targeted? If they don't like the comics they can not buy them. If those other groups like the comics they'll buy them. If not the company will stop making them. I don't see the part where I am supposed to be concerned about comics fans.

If you're talking about Japan, you're wrong, it was straight Japanese men, if you're talking about America and Europe you're right, but it's demographics that made it the default. You market to the largest consumer group. It's exactly like the guy you responded to described.

An even bigger part of the problem is that a lot of people assume, incorrectly, that something is racist as long as some individual or group claims it is. Like some idiot on Twitter. Racism is not subjective, "it's racist if I feel offended". Racism is well defined, it's not something that anybody gets to define on a whim. That wouldn't just be incorrect, it'd be dangerous.

Human beings are not naturally racist, there's not some sort of latent racism in everyone that will inevitably manifest unless people are educated against it. That is a racist argument, that's exactly the sort of thing racist people believe, every racist believes in inherent racism because they believe that race is a significant trait of every human being. Therefore there's no inherent "race bias" or "systemic racism". There's racism, period, and racism is sometimes more and sometimes less widespread and incorporated in a society. That is caused by many complex factors, including how diverse a society is, how racially mixed it is, how isolated it is, etc. It's NOT caused because race is essential of human beings and/or racism is inherent.

You can't go through life playing "catch the racist". That's a sure way to antagonize and make enemies of people and NOT solve the problem. Could DnD and the orcs and whatever else have had racist intentions behind it, and have been made by racist people? Sure. And there might very well be at least some prejudice and ignorance behind a lot of things in this day and age, that's true. Certainly if you twist anything enough you can give it whatever spin you like. That doesn't mean we should all go on some sort of holy crusade, put on our inquisitor hats, and call for the condemnation of every less than eminently socially aware, diverse and egalitarian piece, point of view or preference (or their "accomplices"). racism is a system. society is racist; people were raised in society. that has an effect on the way people view the world. that, in turn, has an effect on the stories people write and tell, whether or not we realize it.

if something created by a person is in line with the system of racism (i.e. it perpetuates or reinforces ideas that are part of the system of racism), it is reasonable to call it racist, even if it wasn't intended by the creator.
