100x - original version, worst battery, charging is propriety, OLED screen is stunning.
200x - revision model, some minor upgrades, microUSB charging, small amount of internal storage, worse screen but everything else is equal or an improvement.
Playstation TV - was called Vita TV in Japan. has a small amount of internal storage, hooks up to the TV, is about the size of an external drive.

the big hurdle with it will be storage. the ideal way these days is Vita2SD, which is an adapter where the game cartridge slot will house a microSD card. you do have to hack your Vita for this and yes, be using ROMs (VPKs) instead of game cartridges. my personal favorite is either the original model for the screen or the TV for the ability to hook things up and have a nice collection of PS1/PSP/Vita games in a small box.

I think it's messed up you guys are happy when political opponents have physical bad things happen to them like injury or COVID. It's even more messed up when you implicitly or explicitly support violence against them at rallies and stuff. Took 5 minutes for SEP to reply to that video Ulti posted earlier about a couple being grabbed and attacked moving through a crowd with something about their overall movement, instead of thinking of that couple as actual people being attacked.

I hated home ec, art, and shop. What wasted classes. They should have been teaching us to build computers or another language instead.

home ec and shop hold the same kind of practical value as building a computer would. practical skills are important and they ain't taught.

languages should just plain start being taught in elementary because that's when you're at your best. that's a flaw with younger grades too, high school spanish is a joke.

at younger ages the main value school gives isn't necessarily the content but the social interactions, learning the rules, social dynamics, etc. like yeah some content is important to have there but you're trying to establish good habits and and intro to society more than anything else.

then we abandon all that because who needs home ec and civics, it's not like knowing how to cook is important right. -_-

i've worked schools for years so i totally get what you mean there, and i can tell you that it's not much better from the educator's side. we all know the deficiencies and the issues the yearly schedule has with delivering content. personal gripe has always been the really shitty situation good students have because they're not getting nearly enough attention as they're rarely the focus; a certain amount of assertiveness by them and/or adults reaching out to them is needed to help them properly grow and develop as people.

but it's still a fucked situation here because we're spiraling to a point where public education is going to become a negative value for kids and teens because they're just gonna get significantly more out of home schooling, teaching themselves, or working. this also runs right through the budget like nothing else, funding? what funding, for who? there's a gigantic ecosystem that's gonna collapse if these numbers keep going the way they do.

in NYC schools recently closed because of covid again.
well, we're getting some numbers now. the school system is about 1.1 million. only about 335k have said they're going back. a third. this is the highest value possible too btw, meaning that at least 3/4 of a million of students aren't going back to in person schooling when schools open back up. also for students who started with remote learning, only about 35k have requested some form of in person schooling.

education is in complete shambles.

I know it's fucking difficult, but it is possible to contrast two different events and find a correlation/problem/inconsistency between them and draw a conclusion based upon that.

You can't just say "well Trump is supposed to nominate judges and the senate is supposed to confirm them" as if that's an acceptable answer when you are aware of what happened during 2015-2016.

just to be clear, my position is totally that the Garland stonewall was shit and i don't find what the republicans did there acceptable. i just also don't find democrats trying to stonewall acceptable either, for the exact same reasons. like i'm aware this is probably to others who said something slightly different but just making sure that difference is made clear here.

i disagree that most people don't care. hypocrisy by your elected officials is a big deal - elections were won on that premise this go around even. always are a couple where that wins and with the bailout, there were a few notable callouts that cost Dems.
that said, i do agree that politicians will naturally be hypocrites to a certain level and that the level is determined by what they can get away with. right now things are extremely polarized so they can get away with more but there's still a limit in place.

and i do agree with the overall point that the system is skewed towards cheating but all systems will be. that's kind of how cheating is supposed to work, you just need to have enough safeguards in place to limit its success. i do stand by that if dems made as big a deal about the courts as the GOP does, they'd win more often. fortunately i do see that being a point of relevance for the upcoming future, as long as they vote.

Changing the definition is something that is newer but it has been leveled as an accusation by both sides in the past decades or so. Like I said, Grassley and some idiots leveled it at Obama cuz he tried to fill lower courts that would change majority by filling over higher level courts missing judges because their majorities were already set.

of course judges have been confirmed, including supreme court ones in an election year, that's happened some 30 times. never happened when the senate and president were of opposing parties. and yes, court packing has always meant adding in more judges. trying to redefine that to meaning something else is a newer definition that only sprung up in the past few months. corrik's right on this - it has traditionally meant adding people to the supreme court and was coined because FDR was trying to do exactly that. it has not meant partisanship, which has always been a thing.

yep. simplified timeline basically goes...

pre-2014: Fredrick Brennan, aka Hotwheels, makes 8chan, a cross between 4chan and reddit. same anon style as 4chan/image boards, same board creation style as reddit.

2014-2015: /v/ has its exodus, gamergate. /pol/ has multiple exodus. plenty of in-fighting on boards but generally things hold up well, though traffic is pretty crazy high. for this time frame was normal to get 8 figures of unique IPs a day and with features like built in webm playback at a max of 8MB, storage demands are fucking nuts, well in the petabytes. hotwheels works on making an updated software called Next with a programmer named Josh, who was better known for being the owner of CWCki which would become kiwifarms in these years. ultimately Next falls through because it's a lot more complicated than anybody expected and is ultimately a failure.

as this was happening over in Japan, 2channel was having an internal fight. Hiroyuki Nishimura and Jim Watkins were essentially co-owners but a split had occurred and Jim, person in charge of the backend, went to take control. for the most part i think Jim was in the right here but we've a clearer picture of how both are nowadays; Hiroyuki would indeed sell data, aligned himself with government, and would exploit the userbase to the maximum extent possible. Jim has a god complex and goes all in for maximizing whatever he wants. this results in Jim owning 2channel, Hiroyuki owning 2ch, and this proxy fight gets brought over to the west when Jim provides the backend for 8chan and is the real owner despite hotwheels being admin. Moot sells 4chan to Hiroyuki. so now it's 2ch/4chan and 2channel/8chan.

2016-2018: Jim officially takes full ownership of 8chan. Hotwheels quits and does a full heel turn on the site, saying it was a mistake, that it should be shut down, etc. blames Jim for various issues and says a lot about the man's personality, like how much of a self centered asshole he really is. Hiroyuki just kind of lets 4chan be for the most part and this has held true to today. like yeah don't trust the man for anything and if you give that site any money in any way that's on you. but as a basic admin, is a lot more hands off. he occasionally messes with /pol/ or whatever but keep in mind this is also the time period when other extremist sites like stormfront started getting deplatformed hard. can't exactly complain there, especially as the already "uh these people ain't larping or being dumb" trend 8/pol had got significantly worse. this ultimately led to 8/pol getting nuked and splintered even more than it already was. what we now know is that Jim during this time was also trying to push /news/ the entire time as a central part of the site, that 8chan would become a news aggregate source and house new news as well. it'd be a central hub, a social media platform that's a weird cross of sites on the internet. there's some elements to 2channel like this so he's probably using that idea as a reference but i mean, it's 2channel. it's not comparable at all. anyway this is when the audience shift happens and /v/ loses its placement as the majority board, if not in traffic then in Jim's mind. the owner of /v/ also is officially working for Jim at this point, with his job primarily being to work on /news/, not that we knew that at the time.

2018-today: this part i'm least familiar with because at this point Jim's power tripping like crazy and the site's completely gone to shit at every level. 8chan gets shut down after the shootings in '19, months later comes back as 8kun. owner of /v/ quits, releases logs on how Jim really is, works with a few other users to make a smaller /v/ elsewhere. hotwheels renegs on even that nickname and seems to have made it his life's mission to ruin 8chan/8ch/8kun. pretty much everyone who was involved with the site from pre 2016 washes their hands on it and wants nothing to do with it anymore, leaving the audience it got after that year... which ended up primarily being boomer larpers, Q addicts, people kicked off reddit/facebook/twitter, stormfront, and so on. this is more of a banned from social media audience than an image board one.

can be more precise on stuff in there but these general ranges give a good outline to how 8chan (and to a lesser extent, 4chan) has been at a more macro level. the only person who came out of that mess winning is probably Josh as kiwifarms has its niche.

There's apparently going to be a patch to make the 1.1 story fight in the Golden House easier. Were people really complaining that much about it? It didn't seem that bad to me.

compared to other content of the game it was pretty difficult.
which is to say, you had to actually pay attention, use the wall to remove the marks, and memorize his attacks. if you ate 3* or better food and took an electric potion you'd be fine. it's pretty easy to get caught in something and your character's KO'd as a result but pay more attention.

if anything i'd just request his transformation scene to be skippable.

I didn't get a Wii U but from the sounds of it it has a much better library of old games and basic features like Netflix that the Switch ridiculously doesn't have. And hey there have been tons of games ported to Switch that have done super well so the games weren't the problem.

What is even left stuck on there now, like Xenoblade X? Nintendoland?

others already said the big games still stuck on it.

the Switch with its ports may already have a better library but the Wii U is just stupid easy to hack and has the same architecture of the WIi and Gamecube so it can play both at a semi-native level. not exactly native since it's not with the literal hardware inside but close enough. gamecube can be done on the gamepad too, which is nice. Switch right now is experimenting with Gamecube and WIi emulators, that's the Mario collection, and it's pretty good from the looks of it. N64 emulator on the WIi U is to date the best one out there, at least until the Switch fully picks it up. if you want Nintendo anything that wasn't 3DS and maybe DS, it's pretty ideal. unsure how DS games work since i never tried as that's what the 3DS is for.

sounds about right. he makes a big enough clusterfuck in enough areas that it's hard to undo them all until 2 years out. obama was tactical with what he wanted that'd be difficult to fix (e.g., DACA), trump isn't nearly as smart or politically savvy so shotgun approach it is. unfortunately for trump things are likely to resolve much faster than he expects because biden isn't really biden, he's the DNC + billionaire donors, lots of corporations will line up just fine. man's a figurehead more than not and is more of a collective character so there's enough hands and minds to unfuck everything short of war and give him a pass for 2024 by blaming trump.

It's been 12 days since Justice Alito's order, and it's crickets from SCOTUS about the PA late-arriving mail ballots case. I feel like they're setting up for dismissing the case as moot/unable to impact the results.

definitely going for moot. Trump on the other hand will rely on the Georgia differences mattering i think. they've got 2 more counties saying they've found discrepancies, number up to over 3000. this though matches with what we told would happen in the first place: there would be missing ballots, there would be fraud, there would be mistakes, but the results are an accurate enough representation for the presidency. still, he's gonna rely on number of counties and number of votes - not that they're his votes but just total period - and try a hail mary on that one the most. he won't have anything else soon.

there have been a few differences seen but yeah, Trump is going for the Wayne County situation that almost happened in the other states too. redsox this topic has been mainly talking about the technicalities of it all, not supporting it or believing they'll happen (and has explicitly said otherwise in this particular topic). that technicality's kind of important, since even though he's currently 1/25 in courts he really does just need one. won't get it, but that's the game.
