My mom wants to retire soon with her bf, and my dad is getting old already... but it's weird because my dad lives in another country. he has his family there but I don't know who is going to take care of him. in fact my parents never even mention this stuff to me, I imagine they think I'm not responsible or mature enough to engage with it; my sister probably deals with some of it even though she's younger than me. so i don't know if I'm just kind of absolved of responsibility at this point or they're going to dump it on me when it happens. even outside of inheritance, i don't want to plan a funeral or manage something like one of my parents having cancer (who does), but of course i am willing to if i have to. it's just weird they NEVER mention this stuff to me and i'm 30. I'm in my 40s & only because of my dad's failing health has my mom started talking about this stuff with me. People don't like to dwell on their own mortality and will put things off until it's too late unless there's a shock to the system. |

Yeah, it sucks. I've only been working part time this year because I've been having to deal with my dad's crap for the last several months on a daily basis.
