Think Binding of Isaac if it were Metroid... you have to perform feats/unlock achievements to unlock new item types that get seeded into a run.

I haven't played much of it yet, since I need to adjust the controls (I don't blame a new dev for not having deadzones for your joystick controls... I can fix it on next launch), but one of the neat things is that your progression items don't always have to be the same thing; In one run I found missiles for handling explosive jobs, but in another run I found exploding shot - but on this run the ENEMIES had missiles!

Ya, many enemy types can be upgraded with the powerups you don't get - it's kinda neat. (or it could be coincidence, but it's still cool)

If I were the type to arm myself in case of emergencies, it would likely be a Garand style rifle (since I would likely enjoy owning a fine wooden rifle).
