If you aren't in the know, please don't vote/be snarky for internet points. Hax was banned from Super Smash Bros. Melee's competitive scene a few years back due to what many saw to be an unhinged series of online tirades against another player, Leffen, which made Leffen fear for his safety at these tournaments. Leffen is a controversial figure in the competitive fighting game scene himself (not just Melee) with a history of his own toxic behaviors in the past, but regardless, many believed Hax rose to a level that was dangerous for the community. Upon his appeal to be unbanned last year, his ban was officially made indefinite as he doubled down on some of his takes that originally got him banned in the first place. Furthermore, it has been stated that for him to be unbanned, he will need to stop publicly calling for his unban, of which he still does to this very day: https://x.com/ssbmhax/status/1796521475463418156 Still, many feel Hax should be unbanned and that the indefinite ban is unfair along with the conditions needed to be unbanned. what's the best coaster there, mr freez?I don't really know tbh what the consensus is. I was always under the impression that Screamin' Eagle and The Boss were what are considered the "classics." Rode Screamin' Eagle and never felt closer to death than being on a wooden rollercoaster that was rickety and felt like the ride was off the tracks at times, but whatever, I'm still around! From what I hear, St. Louis Six Flags, with rides like the Screamin' Eagle is considered bad because of how beat up you get on them rides. Again, had no frame of reference, so I figured that's just what rides are like. I've been to Disney World and Silver Dollar City along with a few smaller one-off parks here and there, so I have a better reference point now. Large fandoms are about turning everything into competitions (yet again, look at speedrunning). You will have top level runners that are friends while their chatters talk about how x runner doesn't deserve World Record and that Y runner is washed unlike their favorite Z runner. Large fandoms also seem to enjoy attacking other fandoms more than actually enjoying their content. I don't want their fans to be a part of the fandom. Their fans send death threats and tell long-standing members that they are worthless because they are not popular.
Super Mario Odyssey speedrunning is a prime example. Speedrunning, to the point above, is very inclusive and full of those in categories that society casts aside. Every time any big person gets involved, they bring in their audience full of people that want speedrunning to be the same as any other hobby and attack you for all your differences. We help those who want to learn and welcome anyone to the community. When large influxes occur, though, it's by people who hold little interest in speedrunning, and just want to parrot what their big streamer said, and only care about videos related to the negative side of speedrunning such as cheating, or mock those who aren't part of the top level. To those who say I should want the community to become bigger, I say, no thanks! The original had a carny, 80's/90's WWE feel to it in the ring and a carny feel to it outside the ring, which coincides greatly with the location, story, and villains (with Rawk Hawk having obvious parallels). Like, if I was listening to it without the context, it is pretty good, but with context, and with a comparable version in the GCN, it's the first time I have a strong urge to use the nostalgia badge. I won't just because I still feel the remake soundtrack has been good as a whole, but this is a big miss for me since chapter 3 was my favorite in the original game. I was really excited to hear the remade version but was taken aback as it played on. Still, to associate an IP with those common interests will allow many to enjoy. Deep down, though, our greatest loves are more than common interests. Our favorite pieces speak to us, and only those with a common soul will appreciate that piece. To the rest, they will ignore, or even hate it. When someone says "let's make this more popular," they are really saying, "how can I strip the quirks and leave only what is a common interest behind?"
They would go to a shop full of soda, each one with its dedicated fanbases and say "well, this makes money, but if I strip every all of these "weird, inaccessible" ingredients except for the water because hey, everyone likes water, it would sell a ton because now the entire population is our audience!"
