I think people have different definition of what 'hard' means. Does it mean:

1) Most difficult to excel at the highest level?
2) Most difficult to play, in general?
3) Requires the most natural talent or innate skills to even qualify to play?
4) Requires the most practice and repetition to excel.

Since everyone has their own ideas of what 'hard' means, this is where there is massive debate and disagreement.

Were the food portions at least adequate enough for you relative to the price?
Fine dining restaurants have small portions because most meals involve 9 to 20 courses. So the portions are relative to how many courses that are planned.

If you get a 20 course meal, then they portion each course with the goal that you'll be full once you get to the 19th/20th course.

I think they use things like a PC or a Car, because, like many restaurants, you're paying +500% +1000% for an extra 1-5% in quality.

Harder to make that comparison with like an entertainment venue, but you are right in that I view fine dining more as enjoying art, than it is a commodity.

Yeah, forgot to mention that a large portion of Michelin Star restaurants already priced a set tip amount into the cover. Also, most are saying that the normal tip is around 5-10% or so, 15% is considered very generous.

It's much lower at Michelin Star restaurants, because everyone knows that the servers and waitstaff are all paid very well, relative to normal restaurants.

Some people (not many, definitely not most) will spend $700 on a meal.

I've had better meals for like $200, so to your previous point about only needing to spend like $1k on a gaming PC...yeah.
The funny part is that tasting food is also very subjective as well. So paying $200 vs $700 doesn't really matter. It is all based on the personal tastes of the guest. I would actually compare restaurant fine dining to art collecting.

Price is typically based on a variety of factors:
a) Location of Restaurant,
b) Reputation of the Head Chef, ownership
c) Demand / Waitlist
d) Quality of Restaurant facilities
e) Perceived quality, --- of all five senses.

it always blows my mind when people go on trips or vacations only to eat at the same crappy chain restaurants they have in their own town
I TRY to go to local establishments as often as I can, but what typically happens is:
a) inconsistent food because of inconsistent food sourcing
Hard to get the same food at the same price when you can't negotiate food prices as a small business
b) inconsistent food because of labor. hard to train labor to do things consistently without a huge training program like chain restaurants do.
c) chain restaurants have deals and coupons that I take advantage of.

The ones I get are 8 ounces and I get multiple salads out of it.
Ahhh, gg. Honestly, I think you're paying too much of a premium for 8 ounce bags. If you eat salads on a regular basis, the 16 ounce bags make more sense, and should be cheaper, due to bulk.

Just saying the lettuce may not be very nice by the time you finish 1.25 pounds of salad.
I agree. That's why the salad that I was proposing was 7 ounces of grilled chicken, mixed greens, carrots, tomatoes, etc. Instead of iceberg lettuce, use any combination of greens (spinach/kale/arugula/romaine/etc.) that you prefer.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

8 ounces (typical size of a double patty) is big enough for a single burger. And yeah, basically all fast food joints sell double patties for around $5-$8. Only Shake Shack and Five Guys are a little more, and that's because Five Guys offers 7438290749 free toppings.

Any more, and you're talking about the big patties that they serve in sitdown restaurants and Irish pubs.

20 ounces is too much weight for a single prepared salad. That's like two of those bags of salad mix you get at the grocery store that feeds a family.
No. Bags of salad mix are almost always 16 ounces or more.
But I agree, that even 20 ounces is a lot of value. Which is why I said that the government would subsidize the cost for us. And I am pretty sure that most people would still prefer the burger.

Can you even get a burger for 7 bucks at any fast food places anymore?
Yes, 8 ounce burgers are, at most $8 or so, except for places like 5 Guys or Shake Shack.

Whataburger sucks. I say this having grown up in the city they started in. When they got bought out the quality dropped off a cliff.
Okay, then whatever fastfood joint that sells the best $7 burger atm.

Assume that the salad is fresh, with tomatoes, carrots, red onions, mixed greens or spinach/kale/arugula, some nuts, etc. with a small amount of balsamic, or healthy-ish dressing, with about 7 ounces of any part of fresh chicken meat that you prefer.
vs
According to Whataburger, their meat is 75/25 Lean to Fat ratio

And assume that government subsidized stores and restaurants to offer a 20 ounce healthy salad that is made fresh and tasty (as tasty as a healthy salad can get),

Almost everyone here would still spend $7 for the grounded meat Whataburger

When you have surge pricing for bread, the have nots' problems are only exacerbated. They just won't be able to afford bread, resulting in literal bread lines waiting for everyone else to finish buying bread, costing time, time that they could spend at work or looking for work or doing something otherwise productive. Surge pricing simply should not be supported by anyone ever anywhere.
Ah, so the difference is in the product/ service being offered, then. Bread is a staple food that can be bought at any time, though.

So the real question should be, "Is fast food considered a necessary staple product, or a luxury item that you can dynamically price for time?"
