It seems to me that quarantine isn't really an effective tool despite being a cool and official sounding word. There's so many people that have this thing and they are travelling everywhere. Even if you were to control an identified group of infected people, someone else is going to visit your country with the virus and infect people and the infections start all over again.

I think with technology at the place its at nowadays, we wont have a disease affect that many people ever. I could be wrong, but I think once it gets big enough (whatever big enough is), massively more efforts will be made to stop it from getting that high.

Like I don't think there's really "massive efforts" that can be made to stop it at this point... it's just going to keep spreading. If you keep trying to quarantine people who get it then the quarantines will never end.

It seems to me that this is gonna spread and infect who its gonna infect

As someone who hates wasting anything in games like consumables or stuff and tries to cling on to everything I acquire, losing souls was such a painful experience for a long time

as you get further into the game, you always feel like "oh my god that was such a huge amount of souls this is such a setback" but then you continue on and begin gathering more and more souls to the point that the amount you lost didn't really matter much. Then you lose an even higher amount and the cycle starts again... but you just learn to accept this as part of your dark souls life

but still... still i steel myself, determined to get those damn souls back before I die again

My comment was directed at Leonhart for the record. TVTropes' avid userbase is a dangerous example of how superficial one can become in terms of digesting storytelling. In a lot of ways, it's the antithesis of understanding a narrative. By only recognizing patterns, you kind of are doomed to miss the nuance of anything.

I definitely agree there's way too much reliance on "Tropes" when discussing material - I often see people point to "well this book was just another heros journey:" without actually discussing the specifics of how the book executed that to see if it did it well or in an interesting way or not. Oh it was "just" another heroes journey so it's not worth reading.

I do love reading tropes and being like "oh yeah that guy was totally the Dragon" or whatever but it shouldn't decide whether you liked something or not for you.... especially if you haven't read it. It's always about how well that work executed the ideas its using.

The cult thing is interesting that they are contributing so much to spreading it around and their general place in South Korean society, but the notion that they are the ones that brought it out of the lab it was created in or something is silly, it's ridiculous Wang even started with that as a theory, because after all his descriptions of what the cult is and what they are linked to, he said "the only thing we're missing is someone from the lab to have been a member. " Yeah, that's kind of key to saying there is a theory that they caused the outbreak.....

It just seems that they had people in Wuhan or the surrounding area and caught the virus just like everyone else there and then took it outside.

Im thinking of turning the claymore into a magic or divine weapon, for special purposes (mainly those respawning skeletons in the catacombs, as I have to go there eventually). Then I still have the black knight sword to get me through things, or the uchigatana if quicker slashes are needed. Out doing errands, will play in a couple hours. Some advice on your Divine plan - spoilering it out incase you don't want to hear stuff like this

people touched a little bit on this earlier, but if my memory doesn't betray me, making a weapon elemental changes it's scaling from your main stat, since it either gives you a bunch of flat extra elemental damage that doesnt scale or by scaling off Faith or Magic (Divine is Faith, I think), So just keep that in mind if you are planning to Divinify your main weapon

It kinda makes elemental weapons better when you havent invested a ton in the primary stat of the weapon, but worse when you did make that investment. If you feel like you need a certain element for something, you might wanna consider putting it on a side weapon instead of one you are using primarily.

As basically everyone knows at this point, Dark Souls is awesome and it's great you are finally having the traditional Dark Souls experience! It really is great. What weapon are you using?

Re DS2: I don't think the guys in charge of Dark Souls 2 quite understood what was so satisfying about Dark Souls difficulty. A lot of areas make things more difficult by just... adding more opponents. Figuring out a dudes patterns and how to exploit the weak spots in their movements is fun. Having three guys repeating the same moveset on top of eachother so you have to wait for all three of them to line up moments of opportunity for you to make a move just becomes tedious

This was HMV's strategy to stay relevant but it ended up not working out for them, or at least it wasn't enough.

I DO love buying stupid memorabilia shit for my favourite franchises though. If it's actually good. A lot of it is lame.

This is really cool.

last year at blizzcon i spent time with a friend that works at Blizzard who went into EXTREME detail about what the alphas for Starcraft: Ghost and Titan were like. He's usually VERY tightlipped about that kind of stuff when we talk online so that was probably the best part of my trip.

Honestly they both sounded awesome

It looks like this dev kit is just one or two missions as Nova. None of the multiplayer where you can play as a firebat and shit which is what he thought was really special

i meant that more on stuff like sequels, like Smash 4 or Pokemon Ruby... if you've spent a ton of time in other games of that series its a perfectly normal thing that you skipped one (ie an excuse). Way different from being like "yeah i just never played any of the mass effects, crazy right?"

There was a show that only went 12 episodes called The Finder. It was technically a spinoff of Bones since they did a backdoor pilot as an episode of Bones before actually making the show, so characters from that show do appear sometimes, but it's really just it's own thing that could have just sprung up on it's own.

It's about a dude who finds things for you. He's got a gift. You ask him to find something and he'll go get it. Could be a trophy you won in 8th grade and then lost, could be a bullet for a murder 20 years ago, could be your keys you just lost. He'll figure it out.

It's basically another "procedural based around a quirky genius" type of show but i find Walter EXTREMELY likeable so I loved this show.

I really wish it had taken off for a couple seasons.

I've always liked how Worf will generally recommend direct or aggressive courses of action, but when he's told to stand down he immediately does and gives a "yes sir" or a nod. Klingon aggression influences his recommendations but his commitment to being a good officer to his commander is more important to him than any of that other stuff.

He obviously does have important character moments where it doesn't play out exactly like this but that's generally how he behaves

Harley is pretty big. The reason she was such a central focus of Suicide Squad to begin with was because Harley Quinn had already been getting mainstream appeal among teen girls and early 20ies girls.

Cosplaying as Harley for regular non nerd stuff like halloween was already really popular for some reason.

She's not big with older crowds or even this boards demographic, though.

When using downloadable software on a non-primary console, your game will pause if your Nintendo Account is used to access downloadable software on any other Nintendo Switch console.

This sounds to me like if I'm playing Mario Maker 2 on his account on my Switch, if he were to start using any downloaded content on his account on his Switch it would pause me

So it sounds like if he does ANYTHING on his switch, it would pause me using his account?

If I could set up his account as a secondary user on my Switch to play Mario Maker, and it only interrupted me if he tried to play Mario Maker too, that would be totally fine. But if I'm playing Mario Maker with his user account and it interrupts me when he plays Smash or some other game online.... pass.

I've always been using my bros switch, mostly just for Smash, but now he's taken it into his room so I had to get my own

What are the games I should be getting?

I got Smash again already.... but oh god I'm going to have to unlock everything again aren't I

My bro has Breath of the Wild and Odyssey as physical copies, does that mean I can play them on my Switch too? I bought Mario Maker 2 and Cadence of Hyrule on his Switch digitally, I'm assuming I'm out of luck on those?

By who? The local manager that probably has their own ideas of how to run things, or maybe even more entry level employees that might not care that much?

Unless you have a designated training team to go around constantly retraining people (which is super expensive) these programs are pretty much the most effective way to at least try to impart certain practices, goals, and expectations across a large organization with many locations.

....It's not as effective as we'd like it to be, though.

i remember disliking these programs at the time too but now as someone high up in a retail organization, there's not really much alternative to programs like this except giving up on teaching your employees to be more than useless automatons entirely

I really enjoyed this movie. Every character was interesting in their own way, though the cast isn't really one big group like the description of the film implies since some of them don't even meet eachother.

i don't really have any particular feelings about Kobe, but I saw a gif on twitter of him and his daughter enjoying a basketball game. That she went down in the helicopter too makes me really sad - a kid who still had a whole life to live. That sucks.

i held onto windows 7 until the free upgrade was going away, and..... windows 10 has been just fine. It's an upgrade, even. Multi monitor support is great, my task bar going across all my monitors feels so good.

Apparently the vast majority of the staff is laid off. Reich got ownership of the site and brand but he has no money, so though he's going to continue he can't keep things operating the way they were.

What an end of an era. I don't love everything CH does or maybe even most of it, but they've definitely made some really phenomenal things and have been chugging along basically as long as I've been on the internet.

I recently checked out the channel after kind of falling off of them for a long time and did a deep dive on a ton of their videos over the past few years., and I have to say their recent content sucks. The cast, except for one top tier super star, is just all around pretty bad. So I guess shutting down at this point isn't too much of a surprise. Pretty much all of their classic great talent have moved on to more mainstream comedy and writing jobs.
