I hope this winds up being true just because we've had Pokemon #111 in Gen 1, #222 in Gen 2, #333 in Gen 3, etc up to #888 in Gen 8 so far, and I want to see them finish this pattern

How much of a "fight" would they have to be? Because I'm not too far off from the chicken one, we've got a few pet chickens that hang around outside, including a couple roosters, one of which can be a little aggressive every now and then but it's easy for me to notice when he's planning on attacking me, to which I just press the bottom of my shoe against him until he runs off.

Oh, just like last year, the vast majority of these "changed" matches would've gone with how I voted, many of which I felt pretty strongly too (unlike the few where I actually voted the song that won)

Really, considering everything regarding the whole past list of "champion" songs I get the feeling I'm better off not sticking around

I love the glitchy stuff Blue Orb begins with, but then the vocals kind of kill it off for me. But also it doesn't really go in a further direction that I would've really cared strongly for either, just kinda feels like missed potential for me personally. Also CMYK is great.

Huh, one reason why these "remasters" of the prototype songs might sound so poor is because they may not have been remastered at all! Apparently someone was able to make a perfect recreation of the Launch Base Act 1 song be kind of "demaking" the song from the Nov 3 1993 Prototype -- changing the instruments to their default settings and removing a couple of audio channels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amLQuJJGp44

This kind of implies that these are simply just songs from an even earlier prototype, potentially the one sent to the folks that worked on the original PC Collection judging from Carnival Night Zone. That would mean this is kinda more of a lost media type of situation, which is a little fascinating. But also rude. These songs belong in the museum part of the game, not the actual game itself! I wanted to hear completed versions of the prototype songs, not ones that are even more unfinished! Imagine if the other zones had their unfinished counterparts too, like Angel Island or Mushroom Hill from the Nov 3 1993 Prototype. Actually, I'd be curious to hear just how unfinished the other zones would've been from this theoretical older prototype...

(Also dang if that were the case, why is it this older prototype that's getting used for things and not the more completed Nov 3 one? I kinda want to hear how PC versions of those Carnival Night Zone songs could've turned out, too)

Whoops I have more things to say today. it's the day of the Panditah. So like, Jewels of the Oracle's whole soundtrack is probably pretty far unlike most of what I tend to prefer in vgm. Actually, I think it's very different from most vgm in general. And in a way, that's kind of what I love about it - Like, it's this mysterious mixture of ancient themes/instrumentations and also more modern/futuristic synthetic ones, with neither side having typical representations, making for a very unique kind of experience. Possibly "enhanced" by that good ol' 11025 Hz audio quality that you also seldom see anymore (okay that particular "quality" may be somewhat nostalgia-influenced for me). Panditah of the 7th Mountain is my personal favorite from the game! Very surreal & dreamlike, and the contrast between the unique droning synths and the unique world instruments works especially well here for me. Plus it has this very interesting dissonant aura to it, where even as it starts to lighten up at :40, the light quickly turns back to dark not even 10 seconds later, and I -love- the way that ghostly reverse-reveal sounds! I may not exactly be expecting it to win here, but I'm just glad it was able to get into this event. Even if it's not particularly your cup of tea, I hope you guys can at least appreciate the unique experience it has to offer, that those who do enjoy may not get many other opportunities to hear or be introduced to. And if not, well, it's only a minute and a half of your time.

As someone who's a big fan of the PC versions & the prototypes I'm... kind of disappointed? Also kind of busy so these thoughts may be kind of rushed. But like, the prototype Carnival Night tracks were wildly different from the PC version and way more fun, but here it seems like they were directly referencing the PC versions? Meanwhile, Launch Base Zone act 2 was also pretty different from the prototype and I preferred the PC version personally (I may be somewhat alone in this), but this time they kept with the melody of the prototype, unfortunately for me. And Ice Cap Zone, which I was most interested in hearing a "completed" version of since that seemed the most unfinished, especially when comparing the two acts, was pretty much unchanged and still feels somewhat "unfinished".

My guess of what happened is they decided to play things far, far too close to the old audio tapes they had made originally for the songs back in the original production, ignoring the extra work later done in Carnival Night in the prototype, Launch Base in the PC version, and any extra work that -needed- to be done in Ice Cap or in general

oh no I am kind of busy and overwhelmed today and may not have a chance to write as much as I want today which is a shame because I have things to say because hey Bunwaii Desert is a good song and I am voting for a vocal song instead. I guess I have a new song to add to my tiny list of "vocal songs I get to enjoy" though I partly wonder how much of that has to do with the Alien aesthetic going on with the instrumental part because I am a sucker for Alien aesthetic and this song does it right. instrumentally at least. Getting into the actual lyrics, I mean eh they're okay, I'm glad they're just about "lets go to outer space" over and over and not too much annoying romance+ type stuff. Really though the real meat of this song is the instrumental stuff but I'm very pleased that it somehow does not feel diminished by the presence of the vocals, which is very rare for me (other than maybe the awkward opening line of "I have a girlfriend"). But yes the instrumental portion of this song is great, does a lot of fun warpy alien effects in varied ways with the pleasant surreal unnatural synths and those unhuman high pitched scratchy squeaks I'm glad the song has those. great stuff this song's might just be my favorite new discovery here that I missed during nominations. Hm these vocals do sound kind of similar to that get jinxed song that I also liked, hmm...

oh and match 3 I can't immediately decide on and I'm feeling a bit rushed and dunno if I'll be around to decide on later but maybe I will but maybe the way I don't know right now is a good reason to abstain

Match 2 was actually closer than I expected for me. Sky Tower is a kind of song I've never really gotten the major "hype" with. And Xxxx/xx/xx does do things I like, like that weird distorted echo thing at 2:34, and the vocals aren't as "bad" for me as other vocal songs. Still, Sky Tower is pretty solid, and maybe I'm in more of a mood for it than usual / it's starting to grow on me or something. Last night I listened xxxx -> sky and considered abstaining, but today I swapped the order and felt my choice is certain.

Today's a pretty good day. Desierto managed to really surprise me but too bad I'm not a fan of the vocals, but at least they're very "minimal" vocal parts. THE CHASE is nice too if maybe a bit too chill for the mood I'm in right now. Both of the songs have really great moments halfway through, like that transition at 2:35 in THE CHASE and the section from 1:36-1:51 in Desierto. I really like how artificial those horns at 1:44 in Desierto sound. I keep going back and forth as to which I'd want to vote for which is a good sign to just abstain and let it be

Match 3 I'd most likely take Shudder over Argon if not for the lyrics portion because it's real cool and while there's still plenty of it to enjoy without the vocals, Argon's real solid as well so I have no problem voting for it. Not going back and forth here

Also in match 1 Angela's a solid song too I really like the part near the end at 3:34 and also similarly at 4:24 that gets hit with the cutoff. But still Heretic Frypan was one of my favorite discoveries during nominations so, yea

Came very close to just skipping voting today with how close all three matches are for me! Only match 3 do I feel strong enough to choose between, but still just barely, both Unknown's engaging action & Dunno's quirky digital dreamscape are nice. Both songs in match 1 are really good too, I just can't easily decide between them (or maybe I'll change my mind on that before the day is done, we'll see)

(just realized that I'm basically saying "dunno" for all 3 matches today lol)

Match 2 a lot closer than I was expecting a typical vocal/non vocal match to be for me. Umineko song does a lot right for me (though this very much does Not include the vocals!) While Interwoven stories, I dunno, I guess I'm not really feeling as well about compared to other similar songs of that style. Still though, ultimately I'd rather relisten to Interwoven Stories with it's flaws than the Umineko song with it's vocals. I considered abstaining there though.

Match 2 is perhaps one of the closest matches for me that I'm still choosing to vote in so far this year. Rftm is certainly real nice to still listen to but I also really like the very unique metallic atmosphere that Gahreesen Corridors has layered with differing elements of dissonance.

Also oops I just filled out my favorites bracket and I'm already going against it now that PowerOne is finally kinda hitting well for me today.

I really love the part of Yusnaan from 1:00 to 1:40! I kinda wish they could have that powerful feel in more of this 3 minute song but the rest of it is still good, a neat dream-like town festival atmosphere

Oh boy, first match is a thing, two real nice songs in very different ways! Dragon's Feed is a very neat mixture of like 3 different, contrasting aesthetics, going between fun groovy, elegant, and historic temple, and it all winds up working very well. And on the other side, Forest Investigation is a great digital creation of an actively eerie, chilling atmosphere. Really, both are very well done and it's very difficult for me to decide between them! So I won't. I mean, a great song will be advancing either way.

Meanwhile match 3 darn another nice little game boy song I don't get to vote for because it's up against another cooler not-game-boy song (and the comparison is not close for me like in match 1 oh well).

Club Leader Duel is a pretty cool gameboy piece too bad I can't vote for it today. Honestly sometimes I feel sort of "odd" about Imaginary Shopping District because it's so short but what little it has is so good, it just kinda leaves me wanting more !

Mechonis Field I think is a type of song that my opinion can fluctuate strongly with and right now I'm not feeling as well as I was during nominations, though even at it's worst this match is a no brainer for me, Moon without Stars is very not my kind of music

Battle for Blizzard Bridge is a very fun cute dark song !!

First match was actually surprisingly close for me. While I'm not typically a fan of most emotional vocal pieces with traditional instrumentation, Dreams in a Pie does kind of work for me better than most. I do really like the "bittersweet" kind of feel it has, and the singing is more "neutral" than the usual negative most singing is for me (still not positive though). I don't care for the strings parts however. "the story is over but sometimes it's under" that's a funny line too bad I'm not good at following along with vocals. Meanwhile with Ghost Ship Painting, I like the sort of cool atmosphere it starts painting with right out of the gate, though the rest of the song is just kinda "alright" for me. I dunno, kinda feels like something I should probably like more than I do, like those parts where it like raises the jazzy alarm in the middle, but it's still alright, nothing wrong with that.

Secret of the Forest is my favorite song today. I really like the mysterious feel it has, and all parts & sections work together real nicely around it.
