I'm not familiar with Phish's work outside of the one Simpsons episode they guest-starred in and their reputation as a band for stoners. Is it true that one needs to be inebriated in some way to appreciate their music, or can it still be enjoyed even while stone-cold sober?

the guy i sat next to for all four nights was stone-cold sober the whole run and he had a blast. he said he's only smoked weed a couple of times and just doesn't enjoy it much. he said he has eaten mushrooms before and did have fun, but wouldn't do that out in public.

that said, a lot of the fan base does partake in substances, especially at the shows.

it's basically prog-rock with some long sections of improvisation. here's one of my favorite shows:

It's Ice > Swept Away > Steep > It's Ice (Set 1 tracks 5-8)

i've been seeing Phish since 2003 and their tickets haven't been $15 in a really long time. i think my '03 tickets were like $50 or something after fees.

my tickets to see them in Grand Rapids this summer were $210 for 2 nights.

You do realize it's required by law to send them a notice through email, phone, or through post mail that their medicaid will be ending soon, and direct them to a website to update their information, or fill out the forms they get through post mail if they want to do it physically? Yes? Stop fucking trying to find an excuse.

here's an article that goes into more detail about the hurdles so many Texans face

https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/medicaid-disenrollment-texas-children/

Adding to the frustration of Texans who have lost Medicaid in recent months is that most of them, including Harper, werent actually deemed ineligible for the program. Nearly 1.2 million were removed for procedural reasons, stymied by the red tape of the renewal process. As of last month, this included more than 858,000 kids. In some of these cases, according to Medicaid advocates, families moved and never received the letter informing them that they needed to submit certain income information, or the notification was written in a language they dont read, or they submitted paperwork but it was missing a signature, or they needed assistance renewing their coverage but couldnt get through to HHSC by calling 211.

Terry Anstee, an attorney with Disability Rights Texas, said hes seen situations in which the state determined people no longer qualified for Medicaid under one eligibility criterion and removed them, even though they were eligible under another. Other applicants appeared to have done everything right but were erroneously kicked off anyway.

While other states have relied more heavily on first checking eligibility through readily available data sources, Texas has renewed fewer than 3 percent of Medicaid enrollees this waythe lowest rate in the country.

Texas is making it exceptionally difficult and is exceptionally unforgiving here. on purpose.

If anyone actually read the article. Nearly 20 million Americans lost their medicaid, 1.3 million of them being kids, not 1.9. That was the overall, along with adults. But Texas also kept on about 2 million on Medicaid.

Also, they didn't kick them out because, "Fuck them kids", they just didn't renewal.

i already pointed out the typo in the title. but the 1.9 vs 1.3 is not the significant thing here, it's what is happening and why.

Chris Fong, CEO of Smile Insurance Group, said the heightened numbers in Texas likely reflect that it's one of the states making it more challenging to qualify, apply or even speak with someone in the Medicaid department.

and

But in Texas, it's likely the lower-than-average Medicaid income limit for children has led to many getting kicked off in the aftermath of the pandemic-era policy.

conservative states have been actively trying to reduce Medicaid coverage, Texas is just being more aggressive about it.

Didn't read the article, is this where the parent/guardian didn't re enroll the kid for the new plan year?

It's important to note, however, that a substantial number of those who no longer have Medicaid were removed for procedural reasons. The KFF found that 69 percent of those removed no longer had coverage because they didn't complete the renewal process.

That frequently happens when states no longer have current contact information for the enrollees or if the enrollee doesn't know or understand how to complete the renewal within a set time. In Texas, it accounted for 66 percent of those removed.

Pigs are smart animals as well but people still eat them.

People are weird about which meat they do and do not eat in general

yup. pigs are smarter than dogs, but most people consciously object to eating the latter. i also find it weird that so many people use intelligence as a barometer to determine if it's acceptable to slaughter a creature because you enjoy how its flesh tastes. it seems almost unanimous that we don't selectively apply morality to humans based on their intelligence (ie dumb people deserve the same treatment as smart people), so why do we treat animals that way?

it really just comes down to "i have some personal attachment to a member of that species = don't eat".
