I will say, I do love the wealth of differing opinions. There is no universal opinion on this, which just, in my mind, shows the quality of the trilogy and how different parts of it can read well to different people.

Spyro 1 is my favorite game of all time.

I borrow-traded Ripto's Rage with a friend for Ape Escape in 5th grade, then he moved to St. Louis. So I went a few years only having Spyro 1 and Year of the Dragon. When he moved back, he said the game was broken at a party.

Eventually I got a new copy at the end of high school and replayed it and... it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered. Hunter is fun, but better in Year of the Dragon. And "I'm a faun you dork!" is really the high point of that game's dialogue anyway. Year of the Dragon had a little more variety of environment, though I'm not sure if I quite would say it's better... still replaying it in Reignited.

So while I like the latter two games in the series a lot and am not sure of which I'd prefer, Spyro 1 is king and it's not even close.

Well to start, its attendance numbers are usually roughly the same as Cedar Point. It's larger though, so probably feels less busy.

To answer your question though? Whole experience. Cedar Point has a couple of good coasters, but the only one that really sticks out as being worth it to go for is Maverick (or Dragster for one time if you haven't ridden it, then you're good for life).
Kings Island just has more. It's NOT as good as it used to be - back before Cedar Fair bought it, the Paramount theming added a lot of character to the park. Hanna-Barbara land was the shit.

But even still, Kings Island just provides a better overall park experience. Better seasonal options, better variety of rides, and just more to see.

I think people underrate Iron Man 2 and overrate Guardians of the Galaxy.

This might be true for people who think The Room actually is good cinema.

IM2 buries its only meaningful conflict behind poorly-executed villain(Whiplash) and poorly executed character non-development (alcoholism?). Tony doesn't make sense as a character in this movie. His resolution of personal conflict doesn't make sense either - it's so shoehorned in that you have to wonder if they got a teenage to write the film.

It would be great if it was a generic action movie. Hell, the best part of the movie is when Tony and Rhodey go ham on some robots. But, if that is the best part of the movie, then you've got major problems!

I might agree a bit on GotG though. I think I preferred it more on first viewing.

What about Disney Villain Origins: Hades? Zeus used the mortal potion Hades has to turn Hades' parents mortal, then killed them, and that's why Hades wants to overthrow Olympus, and also turn Hercules mortal to kill him.

Actually on second thought, that's too close to being in character for Zeus, and therefore not silly enough.

But... Zeus and Hades are brothers.

The half-assed attempt at creating a recurring villain really takes away from the story imo. I think they were trying to push the game closer to your standard JRPG when it would have been far more interesting for the antagonist to be this world-eating entity rather than splitting the role between Sin and Seymour.

Chrono Trigger knew better, which is why that story is much tighter.

Seymour was the actor in the "I know what world-eating entity is - I want to become it!" role. Maybe it spreads the story out a bit, but he still exists within that trope of wanting to harvest and control the big danger that everyone is opposed to, instead of just destroying it outright.

It also is an interesting dichotomy because Sin has always been a sacrifice - Jecht knowingly gave his life to become Sin. And every final Aeon before that. Seymour actually wanted to be Sin.

I think his role would have felt more in-place if he actually succeeded. But I think that also would have taken away from the key conflict of two men overcoming their family's issues. Although - imagine beating Braska's Final Aeon, then Seymour takes the place and is the actual final boss instead of Yu Yevon. Kill him while he's merging with Sin or something - I think that would have landed better than 3rd Seymour that you fight before the end, and it would've been more of an actual 'oh this asshole' moment than what we got, which was more 'ugh why this asshole'.

I saw a post the other day pointing out that a big enough leap is asking the marimba player to jump two feet to the side. As a composer, please don't give me that much power.

Are you sure the post wasn't written by a T-Rex? Playing the distance of 4 octaves is just extending your arms out to the side.

That said, yeah, make sure it's ergonomic. You'd be surprised at the amount of professional band arrangers who have no idea how a marimba works.

i'm finally in the range to get a vibraphone which i've been saving up for (my main instrument was vibraphone / i was primarily a jazz vibraphonist for a very long time, but hadn't had access to one really in years, eager to get back to it)

but i'm worried about exactly this, that i'm going to regret getting this early and on the cheapest end, because of low octave range or something else i hadn't considered (though octave range difference between higher-cost / lower-cost models seems to be less a factor with vibraphone than marimba. for me i think it's about "how important is a motor to me?" and stuff like that)

I've seen so many posts in the Facebook band director's group about "help, our vibraphone motor isn't working, anyway to fix this or do I just need to buy a new vibraphone" and of course, everybody responds with "nobody ever uses the motor in a band setting".

Obviously your situation is different, but when it comes to motors and vibraphones, I would typically drop the motor. If you want to add cool effects to your vibes, there are much easier options, like wrapping bars in aluminum foil to create distortion effect.

Most all serious marimba repertoire requires a 5 octave marimba. But that's a few extra grand from a 4.3 octave, which is the standard size.
