Thing is, Israel has a long and documented history of killing civilians and falsely using the human shield narrative as an excuse, even falsifying evidence. We cannot blindly accept this as a blanket justification for the killing of over 12,000 children.

Some examples:

Human Rights Watch on the 2008-2009 Gaza invasion [1]:

Human Rights Watch found no evidence that the civilian victims were used by Palestinian fighters as human shields or were shot in the crossfire between opposing forces. In each of the incidents, Israeli forces appeared in control, and Palestinian fighters had left the area in question. The civilian victims were in plain view and posed no apparent security threat.

Amnesty on the 2008-2009 war [2]:

Contrary to repeated allegations by Israeli officials of the use of human shields, Amnesty International found no evidence that Hamas or other Palestinian fighters directed the movement of civilians to shield military objectives from attacks.

During that war Israeli tanks attacked a school, killing 40. IDF released video of Hamas militants in that school as justification, but later admitted the footage was years old and unrelated to the attack. A UN inquiry found no evidence of firing coming from the school. [3]

Amnesty on the 2014 Gaza invasion [4]:

Amnesty [..] does not have evidence at this point that Palestinian civilians have been intentionally used by Hamas or Palestinian armed groups during the current hostilities to shield specific locations or military personnel or equipment from Israeli attacks.

In 2018 the IDF killed a 21 year old medic who had her hands up. IDF then released an edited video to make it sound like she admitted to being a human shield. Several Israeli officials spread that lie, often with the phrase "she was no angel". [5]

And whereas Russia has been rightfully blackballed anywhere in the Western world, we still have people calling IDF soldiers 'heroes'.

UN experts today expressed alarm over credible allegations of egregious human rights violations to which Palestinian women and girls continue to be subjected in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Palestinian women and girls have reportedly been arbitrarily executed in Gaza, often together with family members, including their children, according to information received. We are shocked by reports of the deliberate targeting and extrajudicial killing of Palestinian women and children in places where they sought refuge, or while fleeing. Some of them were reportedly holding white pieces of cloth when they were killed by the Israeli army or affiliated forces, the experts said.

The experts expressed serious concern about the arbitrary detention of hundreds of Palestinian women and girls, including human rights defenders, journalists and humanitarian workers, in Gaza and the West Bank since 7 October. Many have reportedly been subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment, denied menstruation pads, food and medicine, and severely beaten. On at least one occasion, Palestinian women detained in Gaza were allegedly kept in a cage in the rain and cold, without food.

We are particularly distressed by reports that Palestinian women and girls in detention have also been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers. They also noted that photos of female detainees in degrading circumstances were also reportedly taken by the Israeli army and uploaded online.

The experts expressed concern that an unknown number of Palestinian women and children, including girls, have reportedly gone missing after contact with the Israeli army in Gaza. There are disturbing reports of at least one female infant forcibly transferred by the Israeli army into Israel, and of children being separated from their parents, whose whereabouts remain unknown, they said.

We remind the Government of Israel of its obligation to uphold the right to life, safety, health, and dignity of Palestinian women and girls and to ensure that no one is subjected to violence, torture, ill-treatment or degrading treatment, including sexual violence, the experts said. They called for an independent, impartial, prompt, thorough and effective investigation into the allegations and for Israel to cooperate with such investigations.

Taken together, these alleged acts may constitute grave violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, and amount to serious crimes under international criminal law that could be prosecuted under the Rome Statute, the experts said. Those responsible for these apparent crimes must be held accountable and victims and their families are entitled to full redress and justice, they added.

Doctors across Gaza have described operating on patients without anaesthetic, turning people with chronic conditions away, and treating rotting wounds with limited medical supplies.

I have no specifics on what illness she had. I know she was suffering with no chance of recovery, because that's a requirement in order to qualify for euthanasia in Dutch law. Just like what I said in post #26. Maybe read.

There's a rigorous process one has to go through to prove that the wish to die is voluntary and well thought out. If there's any pressure from family, doctors will not go through with it. It also needs to be a long lasting wish, not just a decision on a whim. People who are physically or mentally incapable of consenting are not allowed euthanasia either.
