Ouch. I got lazy once and didn't look for an actual parking spot when I went out with friends for food. I just parked behind a market thinking at 1am no one is going to be using it. Stupid me didn't realize I actually parked in someone's spot at an apartment.

Came back hour later and car was gone. Thought it was stolen but eventually noticed the warning sign of it being private parking. Took a while but eventually found out where my car was towed to and because it was after hours I had to pay extra. Total came out to about $400ish I think.

What made this all worse was the fact that the restaurant's parking lot was actually across the street with plenty of open spots, and free but I was simply too lazy and stupid to go back to my car and move it.

I got into Star Trek: The Next Generation late so apart from a few episodes, wasn't that into it. My favorite though is DS9 with Voyager as a close second. I kinda do wish the Voyager was roughed up a bit more. Out of all the series, I feel they had the most/worst plot armour.

Tried to get into Enterprise but loss interest after the first season. Haven't watched any of Discovery though. Never watched the original series either but I loved the movies. Either The Voyage Home or The Undiscovered Country is my favorite.

Kigalas does have some good points. I personally feel it isn't about swearing or not swearing but knowing when not to do it. That's not to suggest all adults have that impulse control but rather we try and get kids to develop that control as well. Of course nobody's perfect and we may slip here or there.

My condolences on your loss. I lost my father eight years ago due to pneumonia and other infection related to his kidney dialysis. We got along well but maybe it wasn't the perfect fatherly-son loving relationship some folks have that allowed me to be more mentally ready for his passing. Or maybe after losing my grandparents a decade earlier scarred me enough to be ready for this.

It was just me and a doctor in his hospital room when he passed as the rest of my family was still driving over. I still remember not feeling anything at all and simply grabbed some paper towel to clean his face of snot and mucus from the breathing mask. My family broke down in tears soon as they walked into the room and saw his lifeless body while I just stood there with a straight face.

With my mother now in her 70's, I do occasionally think about what we can expect in the next decade or two. Even some of my mentors are now in their 60's-70's and the same thoughts crosses my mind. Part of me do wonder if its because I do not truly care for these people that I might be mentally and emotionally ready or for better or worse am too emotionally dead to feel sorrow.

I recall my friends were actually upset that I didn't share the knowledge of my father's death with them until months later. They knew my father but never were close or even saw him regularly. I know some folks want to share such information in case they need some time to themselves or for emotional comfort. None of that applied to me and if anything I wanted to keep everything as normal as possible. For the life of me can't recall why they felt I was obligated to share such thing with them.

According to my city's municipal code, within the residential area we are limited to a dBA of 55 from 7am to 10pm and 50 dBA from 10pm to 7am. 50 seems reasonable for that time period but 55 is really low. I think a lawn mower is already about 100 dBA.

I personally tend to wait until 9-10am before mowing the lawn anyway. I figure by then most people would be awake.

I don't believe I've ever had an atm transaction last more than 30 to 45 seconds but somehow half of everyone seem to take 3-5 minutes.

Depends on what one is using ATM for though. If I'm just withdrawing cash, it's just a simple insert card, enter PIN, choose how much money I want to withdraw, send receipt to email, and touch the "Complete" option. Unless the ATM is slow, I should be out within a minute.

If one was depositing cash or check, asking for a printout receipt, machine didn't read the check right or bills were too crumble up, it will take longer. And this is of course assuming said person knows what they're doing. There are bound to be some folks who are checking everything two or three times to ensure the numbers matches up.

InfestedAdam
05/30/18 3:13:37 AM

It's normal to compare yourself to your family and friends and feel inferior or envy. I myself am in a similar boat as you. Took me about eight years to finish college whereas my college friends finished in five some years. Most got their Professional Engineering license within two years of finishing school whereas I'm eight years out and still don't have it. Some of my friends are making $50k-80k within a few years of working and already bought their first home in the mid 20's whereas me in my mid 30's am making only $47k a year after working for eight years.

The only problem I have with all this isn't that my friends are better off than me. The problem I have is that it doesn't bother me enough. I don't mean in that I want to be better than my friends but rather at my point in my career and age, I should be pushing myself more to make myself more valuable. Every year more graduates are finishing college and that's more competition that I need to deal with. Yet I lack the drive to make myself standout despite knowing I'll never get a better paying position until I do.

When I see how successful my fellow engineers are and the life they're living now, I try and use it more for inspiration than to look down at myself. I've seen my friends posting about the times they were studying for their license exam, going to work 8-5, studying from 7-10, sleep, and then repeat the process.

I see all this as a reminder that my friends got to where they are now because they continue to push themselves whereas I got too comfortable getting my simple engineering position and stopping there. The thing is, even when we're aware of our own flaws, sometime we continue to repeat them. I still kick myself for bombing a city engineer associate interview that was paying $75k a year at zero experience. On the day of the interview I continue to review for the interview but allowed myself to relax too much and wasted a hour playing games. Could that hour spent preparing instead of gaming had made a difference? Maybe or maybe not. The fact that I wasted that time instead of prepping still bugs me to this day.

EDIT: About two weeks ago my supervisor asked if/when I'll get my P.E. license. I told him in the next year or two and what have I done in the past some weeks? Wasting my time playing games instead of looking into what steps I need to take to register and prepare for the exam. I continue to feel inferior because I allow myself to be.

Aye but self-control on how much/what we eat goes a long way too, doesn't it? It's a simple equation of calories in, calories out but the older one gets, I think the better it is to just be mindful of how much/what ones eat.

I still exercise, occasionally, but its more to stay fit than to lose weight. To lose weight I need to be more mindful of how much/what I eat. Jogging 6-8 miles are my longer jog sessions but that's only good for maybe 600-700 calories at most and only if I pushed myself.
