Tipping needs to be abolished. There are restaurants in America that already function by that model, so there's literally no excuse. It's just greed.

We also need to switch over to metric. But that's for a different topic.

2) Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Retro Studios took everything they learned from their first outing with the DK crew and cranked everything up to 11! They turned out a truly phenomenal sequel that puts almost all other sequels to shame. Awe-inspiring platforming that is practically perfect on every way. Even better visuals and set pieces. Visual story telling that gets so much information across in just a small amount of time! More characters. I could go on! But I have to talk about the winner.

1) Donkey Kong Country 2
This game has been in this top place for decades. It will always be here. I know that. You knew that. Do I really need to emphasize why? The otherworldly soundtrack? The magnificent level design? The beloved soundtrack? The perfect set of balance the game has with collectibles and platforming? THE GOSH DANG BEAUTIFUL SOUNDTRACK?!

So, why not Freeze over DKC2? Because. At the end of the day, Freeze still feels like a set of levels. DKC2 was a cohesive world, and a lost world, on top of that! It was a real adventure, filled with unpredictability, danger and wonder. Also nostalgia. Most definitely!

5) Donkey Kong Country
A good game on its own. With probably the second-best soundtrack to brag about. But unfortunately, being the first out of the gate, its age has caught up with it. The game is still perfectly playable nowadays. But the gameplay is simplistic. The save system is punishing. The secrets aren't nearly as rewarding as what would come after. So unless you can create your own sort of challenges (speed running, avoiding bananas, etc), it's hard to find much to come back to, these days outside of that sweet, sweet nostalgia.

4) Donkey Kong Country Returns
Being built as a direct homage to the original predecessor, it will naturally carry with it a lot of the same pros and cons. Wonderful soundtrack, and all of that. But having a dev new studio, and the "power" of the wii behind it, we have a much more impressive game on our hands. The visuals are more spectacular, and feature a great amount of set pieces. There is simultaneous co-op. The gameplay is tighter, with a greater focus on secrets and replayability. Also have to mention the slight focus on built-in speederunning, for those who are looking for it! However, the controls take a slight hit on the wii version, with rolling and blowing using motions.

3) Donkey Kong Country 3
Sometimes nostalgia compels me to put this higher. But not today. The SNES version of DKC3 has a lot going for it. Not enough people give the soundtrack the full credit it deserves, with its atmospheric tone, and driving pressure. The gameplay had almost as finesse as DKC2. Unfortunately, it was beginning to suffer from the bloat of Rare's need to help create/popularize the collect-a-thon genre, which hurt the game, slightly. But you have many exciting secrets to discover, memorable bosses, and everything a proper DKC game needs to close out the OG trilogy.

Granted. They've become happy, healthy KARENS!

I wish that several geographic locations were magically teleported right next to each other, so I could easily visit my wife, family and childhood friends without having to travel for hours at a time, and spend big $$$.

Be careful hope she isn't one of those scammer typp
I've heard that warning more than once.

While that definitely can apply both to the online dating world, and to certain people from the Philippines, my wife is different.

We knew each other for almost two years before meeting, and then deciding to get married. And before that, she almost never asked me for money. I always offered, when the occasion arose. (And by "money," it was just enough to buy a meal from Jollibee.)

She's helped me through more than one horrible situation. And stayed by me through big mistakes I've made. We trust each other completely, and I love her with all my heart. That may sound sappy, but I won't apologize for it.

I tried season 1. I found it so lackluster as a TV show, I dropped it.

No interesting characters, meandering plot. Just a bunch of problems, honestly. I really wanted to like the show, it's an interesting concept, to be sure.

I rarely call tv shows or movies pretentious. But I think it fits Westworld.

Give me Battlestar Galactica any day.

On the one hand, I don't believe in the power of "lists" like I used to. On the other hand, my top 10 from years ago is pretty much unchanged, as most of these games either continue to be timeless, or remain unsurpassed:

1) Donkey Kong Country 2
2) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
3) Super Mario World
4) Sonic 3 & Knuckles
5) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64 or 3DS)
6) Kirby Superstar Ultra
7) Mega Man 2
8) Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
9) Metroid Prime
10) Halo 3

I'm currently married to a Filipina woman. We've had a long-distance relationship since we met in April 2020. I'm flying out to see her in the Philippines this December. Tropical Christmas, y'all!

Like the large majority of my age group, it was Super Mario Bros. on the NES. I was between 2-3 years old.

I would sit on a little TMNT foam chair, coaching my mom as she played. And I'd cry if she fell into a pit. Then, if she got a game over, I'd force her to start the game all over again.

Yes, I was a spoiled brat.

Yes, Mario is still my favorite character to this day.

Lol, poor white boy and his first world problems...

I bet if I told my Filipina wife about this, she'd have a good laugh.

Well, not really. She's too nice. But this is nothing less than whiny blogfaqs.

Please pray for my mother and extended family.

My grandmother (her mother) passed away last week. The memorial service is tomorrow. (Well, in the morning.) It's going to be extremely difficult for everyone.
