But for just playing through the full game, that's a glaring exception. Nanis23 posted... I can't recall a single time I ever played a game on the lowest difficulty (except for things like speedrunning achievements) Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection. I even have a soft spot for Cyan even though I know he's considered not good in the series. This really puts into perspective how much I love this series' characters. --- |

Rango 07/08/21 9:49:31 PM #72 | andylt posted... Top 10: Tifa #1, Aerith #3. We're going full waifu here. Aerith is my favorite healer and Tifa was my usual endgame party member in VII. Cloud of course. My favorite numbered series protag. Vivi. Another great choice. Auron. My overall favorite character in the series. I would have argued against Barrett before. Remake made him amazing. Yuna. Bless. Playing as Summons is amazing. Vincent's cool. Tidus is cool. The latter has Hastega. Not a bad list overall especially considering how many FF party members there are. I'm quite biased towards chars like Gladio, Ignis, Steiner, and Rydia. But I will say it's not a bad list, either. --- |

It's so funny since it's the cherry on top. Coming from Persona 5 and dozens of other RPGs and fantastic games alike, Persona 3 FES managed to impress me the first time I played it in 2019. Just something about the whole style, aesthetic, and overall gameplay that just suits me perfectly. Even if I admit it's flawed, some of its worst issues come from the time of its era (no save points in the Arcana dungeons) which themselves are curbed by relatively easy boss fights. Yet in owning a PS2 since 2004, this managed to be my favorite game on the system. --- |

Topic | What's the worst game you've sunk 50+ hours into? |
Rango 03/27/21 4:07:43 AM #222 | NeatoAnAccount posted... SA2 was one of my favorite games as a kid. Sonic/Shadow levels were great, music was great, liked the character designs, liked the plot (really! it's got a lot of big melodramatic events in it!), liked getting some of the emblems. I even liked the Chao garden. It was a relaxing place to hang out in. I think I was just prepared to like whatever the game threw at me. I don't think it'd work now but man was it effective when I lived with my brother and we would play together. I don't think it aged too terribly. I think Sonic Adventure 2's real problems today would be things like the camera, a few bugs, and whatnot. Still a solid and unique 3D platformer with tons of variety in its stage design and a stellar soundtrack. You could remaster a game like that and it would end up still selling well and being as great as it was back then. FFTA laws restrict your ability to use certain abilities. Unfortunately, most of these aren't even preset and just random based on how many turns it takes for you to touch a map point. This can effectively screw your party over if your focus revolves around a particular battle strategy that gets banned. I heard FFTA2's law system was improved. But also consider FFT never restricted your abilities and is naturally the most popular entry in the series for good reason. --- |
Topic | What's the worst game you've sunk 50+ hours into? |
Rango 03/26/21 7:43:49 PM #217 | I found it enjoyable but imperfect. The worst problem I had with FFTA was the character design and losing quest items making it nigh-impossible to ever get them back to continue. Laws were a secondary issue. Good music, spritework, maps, and an interesting tale on escapism logic though. Highly addictive gameplay too. Addendum: I have the sequel which I heard was better. I'll eventually start playing it while I wait for Triangle Strategy. Tom Bombadil posted... I liked Sonic Adventure 2: Battle but I don't think I would call it objectively good. It's probably either that or some mobile game or other. This game is objectively good. I'd give it around the 7-8 range. Good game, memorable classic, but imperfect and that's okay. --- |
