But with the phrase Fuck GameFaqs?

Because I see the phrase Fuck Fandom thrown around like its a greeting card message.

The honest truth? This website is outdated and will never be relevant again in any capacity. Our ship has sailed, and the only real courses of action are either satisfy the people they actually still have (which isn't happening, because Fandom clearly doesn't give a damn about us) or just shut the site down. With how they've been handling things? The website is better off closed.

Thats an honest take. I dont agree with it, but Ill respect it.

Wrong

Sure it would be. There is no way you could go around saying Fuck GameFaqs and not get moderated, especially if done prior to the Fandom acquisition.

But even just going as far back as early 2023, if you were to take all the Fandom hate topics & dogpile on replies, and replace the word Fandom with GameFaqs then youd have tons of content getting moderated.

If you were in charge of GameFaqs, a platform that cost money to operatehow would you go about making it financially viable?

Would you make an attempt to acquire new users, or would you double down on retaining the users that are currently already here?

How would you go about doing either exactly?

Firstly, I dont understand how it isnt against the ToS at this point to just dogpile on the owners of a website, on their own website even if you hate fandom at least give them some credit for allowing you to do this. Under the old regime going around talking about how much you hate GameFaqs while on GameFaqs would have been a trolling offense.

Secondly I dont understand why anyone who actually enjoys GameFaqs wouldnt support the company that owns GameFaqs. If you enjoy this platform then you should be encouraging Fandom to work to improve it, not giving them motivation to just let it die off.

Fandom owns GameFaqs. Thats just a fact. Its not going to suddenly change just because the niche userbase insults them. Instead of doing everything possible to get the company to resent the current community, work with them to help develop this platform into the powerhouse it once wasor if thats not feasibleat least into a modernized platform that can sustain the hand that feeds it.

Topics like these might as well be titled I want GameFaqs to die, lets work together to kill it off

My opinion is that you do not actually care about what anyone's opinion on this is. I think you like to continually bring up subjects like this as a not so sly way of continually implying the average user base of this website are losers and it's honestly fucking tiring. Get a new gimmick.

Error, I understand thats your opinion, and I respect it. However, if a regular user was trying to derail one of my topics I might block them. But due to your lead moderator status, I cant do that.

Also, whether you like to admit or not, you are a form of influencer to the greater GameFaqs community. Due to your lead moderator status, regular users are going to mimic your behavior. If they see you doing something, in this case derailing a topic to be critical of the topic creator, then they are going to think that its okay that they do it as well.

I dont think being GameFaqs moderator exactly comes with Spider-Man levels of with great power comes great responsibilitybut it does come with some added responsibility to at least be cognizant on how your behavior can also influence others.

This is topic thoroughly derailed now. So, Ill close it as soon as I can, but feel free to close it yourself, as itll take a while before Im allowed.

I do hope you take my feedback in good faith regardless of your personal feelings about me, what I said is still a very valid & constructive criticism.

It wont show up in a photo but you can look in through the windows and in the lobby of the Twitch building is a giant LCD Screen like half the size of an Olympic swimming pool, and its constantly showing hundreds of live streams on the form of little screens.

You know it wasnt until someone in this topic (I think) recommended that CE go petition outside Fandom HQ in San Francisco that I decided to actually google where theyre at.

I just realized that I walk by Fandom damn near everyday on the way to the gym.

Its just a plain unmarked office building, almost like a WeWork across from a mall thats been completely empty for the past four years. I often walk through this mall just because its good scenery.

Its sandwiched between a post office, and a burrito shop thats been converted into a nail salon.

Probably not what you all had envisioned in your heads tho. The Twitch & Crunchy Roll offices are just one block over, and those look exactly howd you imagine them looking.

Wasn't following the plot all that karefully, but wasn't Sterolizer directly asking for this kind of thing?

In any kase, I think it's safe to say regulars of this board were the main reason, one way or another. Should send an emissary to go around and apologise to other boards.

Oddly enough, in all my diatribes in how GameFaqs could in theory go about restructuring itself to attract more users, and become more financially viable...I don't think I ever actually concentrated on the "horny posting" aspect of it. I never even heard the term before Fandom used it.

I guess you could lump "horny posting" in with my "be less internet weird" types of rants. But, I was one of the more active members of the "sex" board, and I was campaigning for that to morph into less "horny posting" and more sexual health and relationship advice.

I even at one point teamed with another user to make our own community board called "adulting" to talk about that type of stuff. But, that was a disaster, it got alot of traffic, but people weren't really mature enough on GameFaqs to talk about things like raising a family, or trying to balance your checkbook. So, we wiped the board clean at one point, and started over...which is what you see now...just a literal ghost town.

Still, after three plus years, I did more or less achieve my goal in changing the vibe of the "sex board". When I first got there it as full of literal incels (as in people who identified, and called themselves incels) trying to sway users into their cult like they were campus recruiters for the military. The rest of the board was a lot of porn discussion, and just in general, misogynistic nonsense. But, when the board was shut down a few weeks back it was full of topics about sexual health, relationships, maintaining a marriage, overcoming mental health, learning to be more social, and just general adult stuff. All sandwich between community topics, playing games and just generally chatting.

In the end I definetly do support the "no hornyposting rule" -- I don't think everything related to sex counts as hornyposting. But the reality of the situation is that the demographics of GameFaqs is primarily male users over the age of 35. So having that demographic making of bunch of "horny posting" related topics just stiffles any user acquisition campaign by Fandom to attract a newer, more casual audience.

Businesswise it was the right move, and I don't think any one person is to blame. In essence, Fandom has made the decision (of which I agree with) to give GameFaqs a more social media-esque atmosphere, and run it from a more corporate standpoint, and less like an independently owned community website.

There are alot of places on the internet that still push forward with the "internet culture" mindset -- and its pretty easy to go join one of those platforms if "horny posting" is your thing. There are tons of subreddits for that purpose. But if Fandom is going to make an effort to grown GameFaqs into something akin to its 2010 self (something that makes a profit) then hornyposting has to go.

I mean, it's easy to hate "shareholders" and what have you, especially as a long time community member that just wants to continue using the thing they've been using, in the matter they've been using it. However, if you just take one moment to reflect on the situation as a whole, and draw on your common sense, then its real easy to understand why a company like Fandom would be attempting to appeal to a wider audience with the platform -- $$$

But I don't think that's a bad thing. I think it's a good thing, because it means GameFaqs had a chance to live on into the future and thrive. I'm of the opinion that if you are a fan of this platform you shouldn't want it to just wither away and die.

Judo in my specific case. I mentioned tani otoshi because it is infamous for ruining knees. There are similar things that are avoided in wrestling, and even further in jujutsu, which partly originates from old timey battlefields. Hell, jujutsu is only recognized as a grappling art now because of how much has been cut from it. Originally had weapons, strikes, gouging, you name it. Had to evolve with the times both for political reasons, and to, you know, not have blind crippled people not wanting to keep paying them.

I used to think similarly to you, about practice needing to replicate execution, but recently I've seen how a lot of MT practice is more repetition and conditioning, and MT champs tend to dominate if they venture into other combat sports. The key difference simply being that preservation allows for more experience, but also that kicking a tree isn't too different from kicking a leg.

As someone with multiple Muay Thai bouts, including competing in one of the top promotions in the world as little ago as February...I don't think so my man. Muay Thai fighters spar...without sparing, you lose. The pad work, and repetition is part of practice, but nothing simulates competition besides competition.

Judo is a strange one, because it involves a Gi, if you attempt these moves against someone not wearing a coat, then its just wrestling. Still, I don't get how you can't practice the moves. You just practice breakfalls. In wrestling we even practice suplexing eachother. You can practice anything.

For me, it's martial arts safety vs practical application. There are things you just don't risk in practice, because you're going to get fucked and not practice anymore.

What martial art could that possibly be? Krav Maga, where they teach how to gauge out someone's eyes, and stab them with a knife?

All that stuff is pretty non-practical anyhow, because anything you can't truly practice, you wont be able to implement in a real situation.

In Jiujitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai and other practical martial arts there really isn't anything you can't actually practice -- you practice all of it. Which is why if you know these thing and you get into a real altercation, you can usually execute them pretty flawlessly, especially against an untrained opponent.

Something like Aikido is never going to work, because its not practical at all, which is why its not practiced as such -- there is no way to practically practice a "zen" or "fitness" martial arts, because thats not what it was created to do.

Yeah Ill be sad to see the site die but Ill tell you what if they get rid of the social boards Id stop coming anyway. So it might as well be dead to me in that situation as Ill stop coming.

FYI Sterolizer, the other posters are absolutely correct in that Gamefaqs' post-2010 decline is primarily due to the decline of message boards as a medium iin favor of social media. The late implementation of inlined images probably didn't help, but I doubt it had a significant effect in the long run. Overall, Gamefaqs has performed incredibly well-- probably within the top 1% range compared to other message boards-- in all likelihood that is almost entirely due to the FAQs and the game/system pages keeping it afloat. I don't think anyone disagrees that an iphone app would help a little bit.

As has been pointed out, and as everyone knows, younger generations have very different tastes than the older ones. As you yourself said, let's plays and video guides are the big thing with younger generations. Hell, Zoomers don't even like Twitter, Youtube, or Facebook anymore, they like TikTok and Instagram. I doubt that there is anything which can change this; it's akin to brainstorming attempts to bring millennials back to cable news, talk radio, print media, and the weather channel. Okay, yes, there are differences (with the younger generations it's more of a personal taste and iphone compatibility vs obsolescence in the case of millennials. More than half of the remaining advantage of newspapers is their utility after you are done reading them.)

FYI, I totally get that this is a hobby and obsession for you. No judgement from me there, I have obsessions as well.

It has absolutely nothing to do with this topic, and I dont even know the full scope of what they are talking about. It spans from a discord conversation where someone posted screenshots of something I said on Reddit, and I got booted from the server before I could even respond to it.

They obviously continued the conversation amongst themselves, but Im not even privy to that conversation, so I dont even know how to respond because I dont know what their consensus or thoughts and views on my Reddit comments even were.

Ill gladly continue the conversation on discord. I wanted to. I went to CPains server to continue it, but the mods told me not too. Then muted me so I couldnt. But Ill gladly head there right now and have that convo.

Ive seen you attempt to deflect criticism on what happened seemed on a subreddit. In one topic you were pushed to admitting you gave it away to this Tails person and only regain control in order to clean it up, and another you act like it was an issue where you were just too hands off until the mass marking by another party forced you to act.

Two separate situations

  1. Summer 2023 I offload it to tails would later become the deathmatch crew with the basic message of screw it, you can have it, leave me alone, only to come back a month later after I see just how bad it got (became what Deathmatch would become) so I cleaned it up. Made rules. Moderated. Promoted new mods. Told Tails to stand down, etc
  2. Late 2023 the place had devolved into deathmatch again. So much marked messages I decided to make a harder stand cleaning it up. I did, and banned people. Really turned it around. Then tried to offload it to someone who would actually maintain it correctly. Tried to give it to @DoesntMatter actually.

The fall out of that was Tails used a Reddit loophole of being a senior mod from the first time I stepped down to mod me, and turn it back into deathmatch 2.0. then I eventually got it back months later, and just shut it down.

The board was created by me initially just to get second opinions on moderations, but I eventually used it as a blog of sorts to preach corporate reform.

So if you consider that malicious intent then yea, you have a point. I just dont consider that stuff malicious intent. I consider it a difference of opinion.

Those other folks had malicious intent. They wanted to harass and hurt people. They wanted to destroy this platform for the purposes of harassing people they dislike.

They spammed Fandom, and made their jobs harder and then harassed an employee publicly when they didnt get their way.

To me thats true malicious intent. Its intent with the purpose to harm.

If someone leaves the parking break unlocked when they park their car on a hill and it rolls backwards and kills someone, that person is still deadand the driver doesnt even get arrested. People actually have sympathy for that personand that upsets the people who are hurt by his negligence.

In comparison, if say the driver had a personal vendetta against this person and purposely drives over them, he goes to prision forever. Then the people affected by this persons action can rage against him without any conflicting feelings. I

I think in terms of the Reddit shenanigans as it relates to me the second option is just easier. Its what people want. Someone to rage at, without any nuance.

I get that. Its annoying, but Ive been taking it for the most part. I get it. I do.

I think part of apologizing is also acknowledging fault even if an unintended outcome happens.

I acknowledge fault. For all of it.

I take full responsibility for it. I cant even take shared responsibility, because it was all my own apathetic nature that caused it to happen.

Without me creating my Reddit, there is no Deathmatch. Thats my responsibility I deserve that hate.

Hey Ive asked this multiple times in multiple topics but you keep on ignoring me.

How does making CE read only and banning political talk across the site help increase traffic to the site at all? I think most of us agree that if the site is to stay alive some changes are required but the issue is nothing we have seen from fandom so far looks to be implemented to aid in that goal. As well as answering my direct question above can you elaborate on what changes fandom have made so far that will increase football to the site both in terms of ad hoc users and more importantly repeat visitors who will want to stay?

Intent is irrelevant.

Okay. Still cant just accept and take responsibility for an intent that isnt mine.

You allowed it to happen.

You need to be more specific here. Because I didnt allow it to happen because I supported it, I allowed it to happen by being a shitty mod. Thats where the intent comes in.

Ill apologize for being a shitty mod, and for alllowing that place to fester to the point it did. I apologize for offloading it to Tails in the summer of 2023 to try and rid myself of its stench instead of actually doing something about it.

I apologize that by the time I was able to get the sub back and clean it up that those folks had already formed a cabal that led to the creation of deathmatch.

I apologize for not doing more work to get tails removed from the mod list when I did come back to clean the place up, because the guy ended up taking over the sub after so cleaned it up because he wanted deathmatch 2.0 my apathetic nature allowed that to happen as well. First time Im apologizing for that I think, but its true.

If not for me deathmatch wouldnt exist, and that stupid banner party probably never would have happened. Fandom wouldnt have been harassed. Those are things that occurred because I was an apathetic moderator.

I apologize for all of that.

Frankenstein isn't absolved of what his monster does because he lost control of it. It's still a monster of his design.

Thats true. But trying to force him to say I agree and support the carnage my monster has created isnt right either.

If its not true its not true. Intent doesnt matter when it comes to consequences of outcomes, but it matters when it comes to consequence of character, and how you interact with someone going forward.

It doesnt even mean you have to forgive that person, but you can still recognize the lit intentions. Trying to prove their something that they arentwhats the point?

I cant just pretend to adopt some malicious intent just because Im sorry and apologetic for the outcomes.

Engaging in off-site conversation with people who want this place absolutely destroyed for good, while knowing theyre alt-right and banned here is why people dislike the things you say about the future of this website.

Yea. I understand that.

You dont understand why the person who built a hive for those people isnt taken seriously when they have ideas for this website?

See this is what Im saying. Ill take responsibility for that place becoming a hive for harassment. Ive apologized for that many times before. I cant agree with your statement that I built a hive for those people because thats not correct, that wasnt my intention, and when it became that hive I took action (twice) to shut it down.

This post is evidence enough you're just going to continue to deflect and act like you had nothing to do with Tails and crew and that you're just an innocent bystander who had no idea what they were like.

I probably wont dodge it, because Ive taken responsibility for most of the negative outcomes in past topics.

I think youve must have seen that which is why you arent actually listing things you want me to take responsibility for because you know I will.

I just dont lie about my intentions. I think people want me to be this alt-right, bigoted troll because its easier to discredit my corporate mindset aka fandom shilling as you all like to call it.

Im not saint by any means, there is plenty to criticize me for. But it all comes with nuance because I have a twenty year posting history that clearly shows Im not some bigoted political troll.
