The police neutralized the shooter within a minute of the first shots being fired.

They're poking fun at the idea that black communities need to police themselves to stop extremists and criminals rising from within them in the first place, which lots of people believe.

"This is a mental health problem"

This keeps being said for the past decade and nothing has been done about mental health either. At the end of the day it's just a fucking American problem. Mental health, gun culture, racism, all of it.

It's the perfect storm. Every country has a mental health problem, most countries have a racism problem to some extent, but none of them have it combined with such a problematic gun culture.

How easy do you people think it is to just go find black market guns? What a terrible argument.

It would probably be easy in America because of how pervasive the gun culture is there. Similar to alcohol during prohibition to some extent. Need to somehow treat the cause along with the symptom.

Just last week alone, there were 34 radical islamic attacks, where 305 people were killed and 293 were injured. I'mma go with that.

Not in the US, though, which is what the question is about.

I'd probably still go with radical Islam but it's very close between that and the alt-right these days. Anyone legitimately voting the far-left is deluding themselves.

So...three mass shootings in a week, two within less than 24 hours.

The second amendment is becoming one of the worst things to ever happen to this country

As I mentioned, how is the second amendment to blame? That has been in place since the formation of the USA, hasn't it (not a big USA history 'buff)? Mass shootings are a new thing compared to the formation of the USA.

The number one argument to gun control is "muh second amendment rights!"

If we weren't the only developed country on the planet that worships guns we probably wouldn't be the only developed country on the planet where mass shootings happen on a nearly weekly basis.

'Gun worship' has been a thing for decades. Why are mass shootings happening more and more now? Something changed; it has nothing to do with the laws. We need to figure out what is happening - I am certain that mental health care is something that needs more priority, personally. People are more depressed/anxious/etc than before; at least, its more commonly expressed.

It's because the culture has changed. With stuff like Sandy Hook and Virginia Tech and every subsequent shooting, more and more people are aware that taking a gun, going into a public place and killing half a dozen people will get their 4/8chan/religious/nationalist "manifesto" heard, their name and actions known, and they get to kill the libs or the gays or the infidels or the mexicans or whatever group that particular person thinks is the boogeyman. Mental health issues have also been a thing for decades: it's the culture and ease of radicalisation that leads to things like this. I don't think the second amendment in itself is what caused the shootings, but cutting back on it would definitely lessen the rate of shootings if it made it legitimately difficult to get firearms like this. There's no "good guy with a gun" in these situations, and if there was they'd most likely be shot and killed by police on the scene anyway.

I haven't watched anything at all from this season yet. Read the manga for Vinland, Demon Slayer and Dr Stone, and haven't touched Fire Force. Too much good stuff to catch up on (or rewatch, as I tend to do). Might give them a go in a few months.

I also think that Isekai Quartet getting in is very unlikely. Only Re:Zero got in this year, and I haven't heard anyone who likes the original material who preferred IQ (although that's predictable).

Bloom Into You was robbed I tell you.

Sorry, I would have kept it up but Hyouka needed every vote I had at that stage. I was considering letting it go in exchange for keeping Bloom going but I think it paid off since it got top 20. Maybe after S2 (yes I am optimistic)!

I have a few problems with Monster, but they're mostly personal ones. I thought the characters were fairly strong but I struggled to care about them throughout, and the plot is very tight and well structured, but it just didn't click with me. I didn't think at any point while watching it "damn, this sucks", but at times it felt a slog and I wasn't totally engaged. I think I was watching a lot of stuff at the time, particularly darker shows, and I was probably a bit burned out which would colour my perception. However, I just don't particularly enjoy it on a personal level and there's no reason for me to care about it in this.

On the other hand, Madoka has done really well. It's not my favourite, but it might crack my top 10. Definitely one of the strongest 12 episode series off the top of my head, as I think someone mentioned before. Good run from it, and I can't complain a lot about the winner. Monster is a well made show and clearly a lot of people really like it. There's a lot of worse things and less entertaining things that could have won too.

So I don't want any specifics, but do any good guys ever die in this show?

Season 1 spoilers

I was legit a bit disappointed that Tsu didn't die (given the setup) when I watched S1 but I just don't think it's the sort of show where regular "good guy" deaths would fit, and it would have been too edgy/angsty and too much of a jump too early.

Also yes Tokoyami best birb

I actually love most of Death Note, but never really bothered saving it. However, I didn't enjoy much after a certain point (except the last episode) and the introduction of a couple of characters. Everything before that is really fun and I don't think I was ever bored. Everything after L's death (yes I know it's really old but there might somehow be someone who wants to watch it and hasn't yet okay) is just so meh, however, that I can't bring myself to like any of it. Would have preferred it to Monster though, which I'll have my little complain about next round.

Reminder to everyone to vote Madoka or at least watch it if you haven't yet! Doesn't matter if you know the plot or the "twist" already (which I think just about everyone who's heard of it has). Even if you don't like the sound of it or think it's going to go out of its way to subvert your expectations, just give it a shot. Everyone knows it's different to the stereotypical mahou shoujo, but the execution of the premise is great (and it's still got the best execution out of its subgenre), the visuals are cracking, and it's one of those rare shows which has actually made me go "holy shit". I rewatched it after the contest last year, and I liked it a lot the first time but it grew on me even more the second. Quite a lot of clever little details and foreshadowing.
