The point is, every culture has the idea of a creator.
That is kinda odd.

Is it proof? No.
But it does poke holes in an idea that a creator is impossible or absolutely false.

Which allows for agnosticism to form.

And the easter bunny doesn't have that going for it as an idea. So the op comparison was ignorant.
It doesn't poke holes in anything. Every culture may not have an Easter Bunny equivalent, but every culture does have similar made up stories about different aspects of life or holidays or their culture. Just because every culture has an idea of a creator doesn't mean much, considering it's one of the most obvious and burning questions the average person with even a little bit of intelligence would have.

Kinda.

Agnostic isnt even really a thing, in the sense people use it at least. Gnosticism deals with knowledge, theism deals with belief.

Agnostics dont know if there is a god. Atheists dont believe there is a god (and its worth noting thats not the same thing as believing there is no god, its just not believing in a god). So, given no one can KNOW, we technically are all agnostic (though some would surely declare god as a fact).

Asking the question do you believe in a god should be a yes or no question, because answering no doesnt mean youre positive there isnt a god. You either believe in a specific god or you dont. The misconception is that people think being atheist means you have absolutely ruled out with 100% certainty no god exists, which is just not the case.

If you dont specifically believe in a specific higher power, youre an atheist. People have conflated that word with being more hardline than it is.
Pretty much.

For starters, this isn't for me, I've already got a masters degree and career in finance, I'm good in that department. This is actually for my older brother. He's in his mid to late 30's and looking to figure out a way that he can do something that he has an aptitude for, while also being able to potentially actually be able to make a decent and growing salary. Going to college is almost certainly not the answer for him at this point and I don't think that going into trades is an option either. We do however think that he would be good in the IT industry, but we just want some advice in regard to what he should look into.

I know that there is more to IT than coding (I don't think he has the aptitude to be a coder personally, nor does he seem to want to), but IT is an industry that I don't really know a lot about at all so I'm just trying to help the guy with some suggestions or maybe resources to look into that might guide him. To my knowledge, you can study for and take the tests to get certain certifications fairly quickly (6 months?) or so, I'm just trying to figure out what those are or at minimum where he can look to find out accurate info to help him. Yes, we are going to Google this as well, but really I just wanted to see if

  1. Anyone here has some specific resources that they have already vetted that they think are good and can help guide him.
  2. Looking to learn about anyone's experience here in IT, if they got into it without college, and just any advice or thoughts about it.

This is true, but hopefully if you're smart, you use that platform to:

  1. Make a crap ton of money just from being hot, and save a lot of it.
  2. Use connections and what not to make money in other ways like starting a business, job opportunities, and all around other opportunities to make money that don't necessarily hinge on how hot your are.

I'm not the guy that you responded to, but I too generally don't put give any points for being a mother, especially not in the described situation. Firstly, it's usually something that people WANT to do, people want to have kids, it's not a need or forced upon them. In contrast, most people HAVE to work, because otherwise they won't be able to feed, clothe and shelter themselves. Additionally, most people become mother and fathers but still have to work. So no, I'm not really going to shed tears for anyone that gets to skip the work stress and still have all their bills paid while doing something that, yes while I'll agree can definitely be stressful, is ultimately something that they want to do.

No it's not ok to do, but the average person isn't going to agree with him going to prison for years for a run-by ass slapping. So after he is found not guilty other dumbasses are going to say "well I guess it's ok to do since this guy was found not guilty." The best thing to do was have him be 'convicted' in the eyes of the public as that would send a far better message then a trial that isnt going to go anywhere.

Not to mention let's stop the bs and be honest here. If this was a male reporter no one would give a shit. If it was a female runner and male reporter, again, no one would give a shit. I would even say if it was a male reporter even he wouldn't give a shit. Either he would ignore it all together or think there's some jackass thinking their funny.

Ive never understood this mentality. Like why would you want to stunt your growth as an adult by living with your parents at 30 something? Life is not that hard unless youre shackled with a mental or physical disability. Id never trade a bit more pocket change for complete independence.

Also so your parents can get a break in life from being responsible for you. Even if you are working and pitching in; youre still there.
See, I've actually never understood this mentality. Why is it automatically assumed that your growth will be stunted? If you are working, paying your own bills, cleaning up after yourself, and overall functioning as an adult, then where you live is kinda irrelevant.

I lived at home until I was 25 by choice, I could have moved out much sooner than that if I really wanted to.I had finished college 3 years prior to moving out. Once I moved out, the only thing that changed was the entity that I paid rent to, and that I had to sign up for my own internet/TV and electric, and buy my own food. That's it. Everything else an adult would do, I'd literally been doing since I was a teenager. During that time that I lived at home, I had a reduced rent amount, paid 100% of all of my other bills, was able to work full time and go to school full time, save up my money and come out of college with $0 debt with thousands of dollars extra to spare. And then once I was out of school, I just continued to stack my chips for the next 3 years. By all metrics I'm ahead of most people my age, not behind. Long story short here is, I think it's OK to live with your family as long as you behave and are treated like an adult.

But even living with your parents into your 30's specifically. My thoughts on that are still the same really. My best friend is Asian and he is 32, this dude has saved up major money due to living with his parents still. In that department, he's way ahead of most people his age.

Loot boxes - Agreed

Microtransactions - I personally don't engage in any microtransactions at all, never have and never will. I don't like them, however I do benefit from them currently. For example, in Rainbow Six Siege, people can buy cosmetic only items from microtransactions. These do not affect gameplay at all. I still don't really like it, however, I recognize that these transactions allow them to release other content that I do care about (new maps and characters) for free, so therefore I benefit. In the past, in order to get this type of content, you would have to buy the premium pass, but now since companies have learned that other people like to waste a lot of money on cosmetics, I get the good content for free. This is also a good thing because it means that EVERYONE gets the important stuff (characters and maps), so it's easier to find full games on newer maps as the game ages, and since everyone gets the characters, no one can complain about pay to win.

Always online - don't really care

Pay to win - Agreed

In the U.S, most people's daily lives aren't really affected by Hinduism or Buddhism. So if you're on mostly U.S based forums, you aren't going to see many people talking about those religions much at all, good or bad.

Make no mistake though, I believe both religions are just as much hogwash and full of magical thinking as any other religion and I'd reckon most atheists feel the same way.

Because then more academic scholarships can be given. Simple as that.

I mean sure, if someone on an academic scholarship makes a large enough amount of money then they should have to give back their scholarship too. But that's so rare it's not even worth considering. I'm thinking hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not more.
Why? Why should whether or not someone should be able to take advantage of a scholarship that they rightfully qualify and earned be paid back just because they made a lot of money doing something that, quite frankly, is none of the schools business? And does this spread to parents too? Like if a kid rightfully earns a full ride based on his academics, should he not be able to accept it if his parents are millionaires and can easily afford his tuition? Or maybe if his parents died and left him a bunch of money? Whether or not it's rare that a non athlete would be able to as easily make a lot of money is irrelevant. I'd bet that in the history of the world, there has probably been at least a few people that won a scholarship and then made a bunch of money while in school somehow and I'd wager no one was telling them that they should be forced to pay their scholarship back. And if it's never happened, I'd wager that if it did happen, again, no one would ever think of telling them to pay their scholarship back. Because for some strange reason, the ONLY time people try to put restrictions on this type of stuff comes up is when it's regarding athletes.

Then complain about the salaries of coaches, they are most definitely adding to tuition costs. Adding to the problem by making the schools pay all athletes isn't going to help anything. I don't care enough to complain about coaching salaries because I enjoy college sports, and now that student athletes can seek sponsorships, there is no ethical question involved. Schools will still give out athletic scholarships (which was already a form of payment), and those who deserve more will make more. IMO if a student makes enough money (like well above the cost of the scholarship) then they should have to pay back the cost of the scholarship, but that's another issue.
In regards to your last point...why? Why should they have to pay back something that they rightfully earned? And would this apply to anyone else that received a scholarship? I see people suggest this every now and then but its never backed up by any actual reason. Off the top it just sounds like jealousy.

Don't forget that the reason universities exist is to be centers of higher education. Not to win sports games.
Regardless of how it's "supposed to be" in the real world, how things actually go in certain schools is MUCH different. If schools cared so much about making sure the kids got their education, they wouldn't be accepting many of these athletes into their school in the first place, seeing as a very large percent of them unfortunately don't academically qualify to be at the schools they are at. And they wouldn't be sticking them in easy majors just so that they can get easy grades so they can qualify to play the games.

Also keep in mind that the athletics are often times a major draw for certain schools. It can be a factor in what makes one person pick one school over the other.

I heard a pretty good point about this the other day.

Credit cards are the single most advertised product of all time. They have spent billions and billions not just on advertisement but on doing the psychology research that allows the advertisements to be profitable. They know your psychology far better than you know your own.

So it's really kind of bold to suppose you can game them.
You can make this kind of argument about literally anything I pay my balance off in full every single month without fail. Meaning I have never paid even one cent in interest. Explain to me in detail how I'm the one being gamed in this situation?

About the only thing that could be said at that point is that there are indeed studies that show that some people might spend more money with a CC than with a DC because they "don't really think of it as money".I'd wager that the vast majority of people that think like that are the idiots that run up a lot of debt. So what it really requires is the correct mindset. When I swipe my CC, I think of it as money coming directly out of my pocket, it feels just as bad as cash to me because quite frankly, it will be coming out of my bank account within 30 days at absolute most. Additionally, those same studies show that if you keep constant track of your spending (which I do, multiple times a week) you are less likely to over spend.

Yes it's true, a very large percentage of the population are idiots and will run up a bunch of debt, and those are definitely the customers that CC companies want. It does not take a lot of brains to say "Hey, that's not a good idea even a little bit"
