If we have conflicting views about how to improve the world, it would be foolish of me to support them in their efforts to take an approach I disagree with. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy a family dinner with them, but I'm certainly not going to change which political views I express publicly in order to avoid stepping on their toes, and I would expect the same from them.

There's often no clear right or wrong, but even when the right choice isn't clear, political opinions do have consequences. Most differences in political opinion are the result of differences in how severe one feels those consequences are relative to the potential benefit, not an arbitrary subjective preference like which Star Wars movie is best. Dismissing that as "just a difference of opinions" that people should be able to put aside for the sake of maintaining the image of a happy family is myopic at best.

Restricted in the sense that you're limited to one package per customer, or restricted in the sense that nobody's allowed to buy yeast? In the former case, it's because yeast is an item people have been buying en masse, presumably under the pretense of being able to have bread even if grocery stores don't have any available (flour's been pretty depleted for the same reason). In the latter, I haven't heard of that happening anywhere in Canada except the occasional First Nations community that has such a severe problem with alcoholism that they've enacted prohibition and need to limit access to yeast to prevent home brewing, and I haven't heard of it happening due to lockdown, but that could explain it.

Pretty much any game with significant character growth is going to have a slow start due to not having access to any of the customization that gives the game its depth, which can make them harder to review. If a job asks you for a cover letter and you don't provide one, your resume will be thrown out. Period. Your cover letter should mostly consist of highlighting relevant parts of your resume and explaining how they make you well-suited for the job. Your accomplishments don't really feature into that; they belong more on your resume. If you don't have a lot of relevant experience (which can include school or volunteer activities as well as actual employment, if you need to flesh it out a bit), focus on your skills, how you've demonstrated them, and how they'll be applicable to the job you're seeking. Your cover letter is an opportunity to explain why you think you'll be a good fit for the job. You can highlight just about anything you want, provided you can tailor it to that end.

IMRavnos posted...
Your cover letter is often the MOST important part of getting your resume read.

More often than not, the resume gets read before the cover letter, despite what the name "cover letter" would suggest. Employers will often only bother reading the cover letter if the resume has enough interesting content that they expect that further elaboration will be worth their while, since it's pretty easy to skim a resume in a matter of seconds, whereas reading a cover letter takes quite a bit longer.

Pretty much. That kind of money could have done so much more good than restoring some old church (a magnificent piece of architecture, the loss of which was tragic, but nonetheless just an old church), at a similarly trivial personal cost, yet still the money accumulates in bank accounts instead of doing that good. The thing is, false advertising is a crime because it creates the potential to manipulate customers into a purchase they would not have made if the product were not misrepresented, effectively swindling them. If an item's price is mislabeled, that's only going to happen if the difference is relatively minor, in which case the harm is also pretty minor and it's a lot harder to say they wouldn't have bought it if it were properly labeled. In a case like this, the guy lost nothing except the time and emotion he chose to invest into the matter, so you can't really say there's the potential for such harm.

Being in a relationship with somebody who's still in high school therefor just seems odd to me. Of course, individuals vary and there's no shortage of couples in those ages ranges for whom the maturity difference isn't present, so that's hardly an absolute thing.

It probably won't be an issue if you've only got a tiny handful of non-Steam games, but if you ever do start to find that keeping track of multiple libraries gets to be a hassle, the newest iteration of GOG's client (GOG Galaxy 2.0) has the ability to consolidate libraries from multiple clients into a single list. You basically have to try to give yourself water poisoning, whereas you probably are eating too much sodium unless you make a point of avoiding processed foods. You're not wrong to point out that toxicity is always dose-dependent, but if you're going to make a comparison like that, you need to consider the doses people are likely to receive. Comparing the toxicity of likely doses to the toxicity of unlikely doses is comparing apples to oranges.

Recommended sodium intake is based on recommended water intake. It's far better to just eat a reasonable amount of everything than to play a ridiculous game of catch-up after eating way too much of one nutrient.

That's untrue, though. Anyone working out of a base 10 system (i.e., basically everyone) is almost naturally going to be more comfortable with a 0-100 range, which absolutely applies to weather temperature and automobile speed ranges. It's just easier to conceptualize.

It's true that 0-100 is more intuitive, but being more intuitive means nothing when it's something you deal with on a daily basis. People spend their entire lives knowing what numbers mean hot and what numbers mean cold. They don't have to rely on the temperature scale being intuitive.

Most of that isn't people genuinely being that sensitive, it's just being overdramatic. Even when it is, though, most metric thermostats increment in half degrees C, which are virtually identical to whole degrees F (9/5 is less than 0.5, but not by an appreciable amount for something as approximate as ambient temperature).

A normal sponge won't get it off, you can't wipe it off with a paper towl etc. You have to use brillo or a rough sponge to get it off.

I've put parmesan (which then melted) on countless pasta dishes and never once had it stick to the bowl so badly that I couldn't easily take it off by wiping with a simple dish cloth. I've cooked spaghetti carbonara in a stainless steel pan and not had any issues removing the parmesan that I melted in the pan on the stovetop (the egg was another matter, and why I prefer to use my cast iron pan for it). I don't know what you're doing with your parmesan that's making it stick so badly you can't remove it without destroying your scrubbing tool, but it's definitely not a problem I've ever heard of anyone having.

Sounds fair, provided there's some leniency for people that are genuinely trying to quit. In particular, existing employees should be given a grace period in which to show that they're making that effort, since quitting cold turkey isn't easy. Smoking is an addiction, and those trying to get over it do deserve some sympathy for the challenge they're facing. The ones that aren't trying, though? Sucks to be them.

I don't smoke, but how is it gonna create a healthier work environment? Are they smoking in the store?

More significantly, it helps the store smell better. Smokers are smelly and make everything around them smelly. I don't think it's ever full-on deterred me from visiting a business again, but I've definitely had times when I've been looking to buy something and wished I had a non-smoking employee helping me do so because of how unpleasant it was to interact with the smoker.
