There should be some difficulty in mastering the controls of a platformer.

Ehhh, that's a statement I can't agree with without a few asterisks. There should be room to master movement such that the player can feel a difference as they become more skilled, but if a game relies on awkward controls/movement to provide its difficulty (especially a game where movement is most of the game and moving well is where most of the fun comes from), it's probably not a good game (exception: horror games that use clunky controls to impart a feeling of helplessness, though that still has its limits). You can have challenging platformers with easy, intuitive controls by just having challenging platforming.

That said, if you buy a house with an HOA, you don't really have room to complain.

Depends what other options you have. If the choice is buying a house with an HOA or not buying a house at all, there's plenty to complain about.

Those went right over my head as a kid, but rewatching them as an adult with the knowledge that Dr. Ruth Wordheimer is actually Dr. Ruth the sex therapist and she just encouraged those letters to have a threesome is hilarious. It came up at a family dinner a while back and my sister was blown away by the revelation, but my mom was just like "yep, I remember laughing at that when you were kids." Just a fun little inappropriate joke they slipped in for the adults in the audience while still being completely innocent for the kids.

The game holds a special place in my heart. It was my first 3-D game and i still remember the first moment coming out of the pipe at the beginning of the game and how enthralled i was with the world. Obviously, the camera didn't age well but I think even to this day the level design is great. It's fairly rated i think

This sounds about right. If it came out today as-is, it'd be panned for the wonky camera and slightly dated controls, but the level design and overall experience still hold up very well even if you take nostalgia out of the picture.

Yeah, I hold myself back from using summons. I'm stubborn like that. Nothing against them as a concept, but I want to beat the boss myself.

It can be irritating sometimes when it corrects something that doesn't need correcting or fails to catch a correction that is needed, particularly given how annoying it is to move the cursor around on a phone to manually make the correction, but much more often than that it catches typos from me fat fingering the wrong keys, so I'd say it's a net positive.

On a phone, at least. There are a handful of autocorrections I appreciate on a computer (like mroe-->more and msot-->most, among similar examples), but on a computer my accuracy is much higher and it's much easier to make manual corrections, so I'm generally better off with plain old spellcheck than trying to deal with an autocorrect that thinks I'm trying to write something I'm not. Fortunately, computer autocorrect tends to either be much less intrusive or entirely absent.

I really believe that there wont be much change between now and the election.

In terms of votes? Probably not. This will be seen as a massive win for the people who worship Trump and everything he does, but they were already voting for him, and other people aren't likely to care.

More broadly, though? I'll be very, very surprised if there isn't a retaliatory attack at a future Biden rally, and another copycat attempt or two on Trump wouldn't surprise me. This has set a very dangerous precedent and I don't think we've seen the last of it.

The shot would have to have been perfect, somehow hitting his ear but bouncing off him.

It doesn't have to bounce off of him. Nicking an ear without hitting the head at all is improbable, given what a small target that is, but far from impossible.

Damn_Underscore posted...
And the point of it being a modern gun means we know for sure that the shot was fast and accurate

We know it's roughly as accurate as it can be based on the skill of the shooter, though even that's not necessarily true. They're a lot better than the "point vaguely in the right direction and hope for the best" of muskets and early pistols, certainly, but modern guns still vary in their accuracy, depending on the model, how well they've been assembled, how well they've been cleaned/maintained, how well the sight has been calibrated, and even just manufacturing inconsistencies. Then it's on the user to account for wind speed/direction and actually aim it properly, which over a long distance is always a challenge because turning a thousandth of a degree can translate into missing your target entirely.

Is shrapnel more plausible? 100%. The ear is a tiny target and the odds of hitting it with dozens of pieces of shrapnel are significantly higher than the odds of hitting it with a single bullet. But the idea that "if a bullet had actually hit his ear he'd be dead" is just nonsense, and the era of the gun in question has nothing to do with that.

Andrew Jackson famously survived an assassination attempt (he wasn't actually shot though) basically because of poor gun technology of the time.

That "he wasn't actually shot though" part is where the poor gun tech of the time comes into play. The poor gun tech made it harder to land a hit. Had he been hit somewhere critical, there's a good chance he wouldn't have survived, even with more primitive technology.

Damn_Underscore posted...
If he was actually shot in the ear with a modern gun, the chances of him surviving, let alone standing up immediately afterwards, would be extremely low.

If he was shot in the ear from the side? Sure, because that's not so much being "shot in the ear" as being shot in the head. If he was shot in the ear from the front? That's just going to pass through his ear, whether it's a modern gun or not.

I think you're thinking of the fact that getting hit anywhere in the body with a high-calibre round can kill you simply because of how much it spikes your blood pressure (off-hand, I don't know how legit that claim actually is and I'm sure there's plenty of nuance to it, but it's definitely a claim that's out there). That doesn't really apply to the ear, though, for the same reason that you can't punch a suspended piece of paper hard enough to hurt your hand: the tissue and blood vessels in the area are too weak to carry that pressure to the rest of the body, so they just fall apart first.

I dont think he got hit with a bullet. If this were the 1800s that would maybe be possible, but nowadays if he was hit with a bullet he would be dead.

Indeed. New bullet technology means that if you even touch a bullet your entire head will explode immediately. It's pretty wild.

It's quite easy to pull stuff off the sales floor, claiming it's trash without it ever making it to a trash can or dumpster.

In which case if you notice a problem with more stuff spoiling than usual (which should show up under any competent inventory management practices), you can check camera footage to see who's removing allegedly spoiled stock but not taking it to the dumpster. If you're aware of the employee taking garbage home, you can also check the garbage they're taking to make sure it's actually spoiled.

There are excuses that sound nice on paper, but overwhelmingly the actual reason for stores not wanting people (employees or otherwise) to take defective stuff out of the garbage is that a lot of defective stuff is still useful, and getting something good enough for free from the garbage means they won't go into the store to buy something new. It's an artificial scarcity measure, disguised as loss prevention.

I disagree. The real issue is that the guy cant be trusted. That doesnt go away just because youre sitting on him.

Yeah, unless there's an actual reason for fudging his sheets like this that you can address, he's pushing the envelope to see what he can get away with. The timesheet problem will go away when there are no timesheets, but you don't want an employee that you have to constantly keep an eye on to keep him from taking advantage of your good faith leniency. People who need to be micromanaged to keep them behaving well aren't worth employing.

Trump's... empirical liberties aside, I'm also not sure how much stock I'd put in his ability to guess what grazed him. I doubt he'd know the difference between how it feels to be shot in the ear and how it feels to have a bit of shrapnel go through his ear. Those treating the wound would likely have told him, though, so he could be going off of that.

First boss of Dark Souls 3. As first Souls bosses go, he's up there, thanks to how wonky the Pus of Man attacks are.

Personally, I got walled by Blackflame Friede and drifted away from the game because my pride didn't let me skip her or leave the DLC area to get a few more levels under my belt.

You dont know the circumstances TC.

He knows whether or not there were weather conditions that could have caused the driver to lose control, as well as whether or not it's an area with a significant risk of deer crossings or other scenarios that could cause swerving. Those are the main legitimate reasons for somebody to end up in the ditch. There's the possibility of a heart attack/stroke/seizure at the wheel, but that's significantly less likely than that somebody who wanted to buy an expensive zoomy car got the zoomies and reckless driving'd themselves off the road.
