Speaker Johnson: We Were Counting on Democrat to Be In Emergency Surgery During Impeachment Vote

Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans were shocked as their impeachment resolution against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas went down in flames on Tuesday by a vote of 214-216. Republicans Ken Buck, Tom McClintock, Blake Moore, and Mike Gallagher voted against the measure. Moore changed his vote to a 'no' at the last second for procedural reasons, after Democratic Rep. Al Green arrived straight from the hospital in a wheelchair and scrubs to make what would be the deciding vote.
Johnson and House Republicans were infuriated by Green's presence at the vote, and apparently had not counted on this possibility. In fact, the vote was planned with Green's absence in mind. Speaker Johnson planned the vote for Tuesday because he thought the Democrats would be down a vote while Green was in surgery.

In other words, Johnson, in the most ghoulish way imaginable, tried to exploit a member of Congress's emergency surgery in order to pull a political stunt in the House of Representatives. As Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko put it, "What he really said 'We tried to cheat but we were caught.'"

Rep. Green had suffered "excruciating pain" on Friday and was ordered into emergency surgery, and requested to leave the hospital in order to cast his vote on Tuesday. He had to sign forms prior to leaving the hospital giving "acknowledgement that [he] understood that there could be some consequences." Green was then monitored by the House physician office.

On Wednesday, when asked about the failed vote, Speaker Johnson acknowledged that House Republicans were not prepared for Green's presence.
Johnson: Last night was a setback, but democracy is messy. We live in a time of divided government. We have a razor-thin margin here, and every vote counts. Sometimes when youre counting votes and people show up when theyre not expected to be in the building, it changes the equation.

Right, but maybe some people can handle full investment into two people. After all, if you bear children, you'd have to split your time between your wife and then your child, right?

Men as well. It's perfectly admirable. Society is starting to realize that for many people, producing offspring is a desperate attempt by people to pass on their genetic legacy before they die.

My parents once told me that the one thing that they care most about is for me to find a wife and bear children and to be able to raise that family, otherwise, they'll just donate all of their property to charity upon their deaths. I asked them, what about adoption? They said no. They won't have the family DNA/blood.

I will be honest, I love him, but I lost a ton of respect for my father when he said that. I honestly believe that's a very depressing and selfish way to go through life. I realize that it's our biological instinct to have a visceral reaction towards wanting to prolong your genetic existence through history, but to let that define your entire existence on earth, is very sad to me.

The nature of our human existence is that we recognize our biological instincts, and determine whether we want to be driven by them, or choose a more ethical path.

That opens up new doors, but it's also limiting if you're imposing a filter of "Do it, but in the modern era," or "Do it, but in the future." You can have King Arthur... so long as the story takes place in the 25th century in the galaxy known as Avalon.
Regardless, that's all that really matters. If Christians gets to Jesus-wash Saturnalia, then there's nothing wrong with reinventing fictional stories, as long as proper credit is due to actual history, and nobody is claiming that ACTUAL 17th century Ireland had 40% black people.

If you're doing a Captain Sinbad or Aladdin story, 90% or more of the cast should be Arab. If you're doing a Zorro story, 80% of the cast or more should be Latino/Latina. If you're doing a Mulan story, in all honesty, the entire (human) cast should be Chinese. If you're doing a story based on Robin Hood or King Arthur, 80% of the cast or more should be White.

That's all I'm trying to say.
Unless, they're reinventing the story, and using alternate realities, or multi-verses. AKA Spider-Verse. AKA modern James Bond, etc., etc., etc.

If they want to make an animated series based off of Beauty and the Beast, 18th century France is suddenly going to have larger Black and Asian populations because, "If magic beasts and talking teacups can exist, why can't they?" If Belle's best friend is Asian and the royal captain of the guard is Black, I could still accept that this is 18th century France through an idyllic lens. But if you reimagine it so that ethnic French people make up less than 50% of the cast, you might as well set the story in Middle Earth, Eternia, or Hyrule. "French" is an architecture and not an ethnicity.
OK, so you don't have a problem if they simply reinvented / adapted Beauty and the Beast so that it's less about historical France, and more in an alternate reality that focuses more on the generic ideals.

Just as Christians hijacked the pagan winter solstice holiday and turned it into Jesus' birthday. And now the rest of the world has reinvented Christmas to be less about Jesus and more about a big green tree, and gifts, and spending time with family.

I think TRY to get >50% =/= MUST get 50%.
There's a difference between holistic measurements, and strict quotas. Everyone has already agreed that strict quotas are illegal. But there's nothing wrong with measuring percentages, then using those measurements to determine what efforts should be made in a holistic manner.

It's then up to the jury to decide whether they trust the evidence.

And for that matter the Chinese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, etc. students also all hang out with each other.
That's a little different, because neither Japanese, nor English are their first language. And their English is often not that great either. So those international students are naturally going to gravitate towards people who can speak their native language. At least most Europeans are decent at English as their second language, so they'll have an easier time hanging out with other Europeans of different nationalities.

a) Asian students often have a common culture, and shared 2nd-generation immigrant experience. It's a commonality that many white people don't share with other whites. The closest thing that white people might have would be Italian-American cliques, Irish-American cliques, or white-Hispanic cliques, etc.

b) Asian students are often excluded, or at least they FEEL that they are excluded from white people cliques, so they gravitate towards groups that openly accept them.

c) Asian children are often taught to act reserved and respectful. As such, numbers-wise, Asian children are less likely to initiate a friendship with other people. Therefore, unless a non-Asian student extends the olive branch, cliques don't often form between Asians and non-Asian.

d) Asian students are often taught by their parents to focus on academics and studies. Because of this, those 'Asian nerds' aren't typically the life of the party. As such, the 'cool, popular kids' don't often invite the 'nerds' into their cliques.
